Yeah I like that, have Stroman start Estrada's games, if things go sour Estrada out of the pen. When he looks good enough, Hutch to the pen?

Estrada to the pen? WTH.

So that he can come in after 4ish innings on days Stroman pitches. It's the only way to work Stroman into a SP posn this year really. Stroman goes 4 innings, Estrada closes it out. Hutch to the pen is pretty useless really considering the guys we have there. I would rather Stroman just start up here when he is close than go to AAA for an extended period of time to get stretched out etc. so he can have time to get his game ready for the playoffs.

May just be better to use Stroman out of the pen this year for 3 inning stints. Would be handy on days Hutch is struggling, plus it would be very easy to monitor/yank him/control his innings this way.

Looks like the starting 4 will be

Price

Dickey

Estrada

Buehrle

So having a guy that can go 3 innings out of the pen would be huge on Dickey, Estrada, Buehrle days.

No matter how many times it's said, seems like people don't understand that Stroman injured his knee, not his arm.

you like to pretend like other body parts don't matter when throwing.

Landing on that leg 100 times a game is still pretty tough on a player.

Stroman is probably the Ace of the rotation going forward and at the same time the only pitcher we can count on being in the rotation next year. Being extra cautious with him is the way to go...I'm actually kinda surprised they didn't just shut him down.

If he can't land on his leg, he won't play. Its really that simple

Is it his plant leg? Also, why would Dr. Andrews give him the OK to throw off a mound if it were to be disruptive?

We are in a race for the division and you want to start limiting the innings of arguably our best pitcher before Price. Can't get on board.

I'm surprised you know more than an orthopedic surgeon?

Stats guys can't understand how real life pitching works? You need your legs. Anyway, I think it's been repeated but it is Gibbons who said about it being more likely Stroman would come out of the pen. I think most of us would love to have him starting if there is a logical way to make it happen.

players are always cleared for physical activities but that doesn't mean the risk is still there.

Just like how he has to build up innings for his arm, he will need to build up innings for his landing leg. And then you need appropriate rest so that your body is healed and fresh for the next outing.

There is a lot more stress when your body weight + all the weight stopping your momentum lands is put on that knee. Gotta take it slow.

That's what rehab appearances are for Dr Herp...I've had recontructive surgery on my ACL, the doctor would not clear him to pitch if he didn't think he could, period.

I'm not understanding how you can't understand that a team of Medical doctors and physical trainers will allow a guy to perform if he can't physically and mentally deliver.

Gibbons thinks Dioner Navarro is a better hitter than Russ Martin. Guy is barely qualified to fill out a lineup card, how would he have any knowledge of what Stroman can or can't do? We've been waiting for this opportunity for 20 years, if Stro can start he needs to be in the rotation, regardless of what Dr. Gibbons thinks.

Doctors can only do so much, everybody is different in how their body reacts. You have to trust the athlete to be honest about how they are feeling. Therein lies the problem: athletes will often lie, sometimes even to themselves, to get back early. I really, really want Stroman back, but if the Jays decide to be extra cautious, even during a pennant race, I will at least understand their position.

Just as concerning for me is Stroman trying to protect the knee and compensating by putting more strain on the arm or shoulder as a result. Although that would be a risk regardless of whether he comes back this year or next.

Yeah man, I just read box scores and calculate xFIP and wRC+ so I can know who really won. I don't even know how baseball works, really.

if he is ready to go it would be great to have him down the stretch and for sure as our second starter in the post season if we make it there. 2 top starters can win you a playoff series. bumgarner did it on his own last year

I'm not arguing that he is not healthy enough to pitch you dinks

I'm arguing that you can't just throw him in as a starter with only a few weeks until he's ready to be eligible for the post season roster.

Y'all think that just cause he has been 'throwing' since ST means he can all of a sudden go 80 pitches in his first rehab assignment.

He won't but 3 weeks worth of rehab starts will get him to 75-80 pitches which is enough. Then they reevaluate

something I don't think I've seen is a report of him throwing off the mound. All I have seen are reports of him doing long toss. is he on the mound???

In all the photos that he has posted, he was never on a mound. Just long toss.

In 10 days on the 21st Stroman could probably throw 40 45 pitches. Increasing to 60 5 days later and 75 5 days after that being ready for a start in September to go 90 pitches if they choose to go that route.

I'd love to see the session.... hope he's going to post it. He has posted most of his rehab steps.

I haven't checked the DL timeline, but players must be on the 25-man by Aug. 31 midnight to be eligible for the post season roster. Players on the DL are excluded. I don't know when Stroman is allowed to get off the DL - before that date or after. It it's before, they need to bring him up.
