Dr Negative Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I'm also of the opinion that it is too much of a gamble for a shot at a one game playoff. I'm also not sure how great an idea re-signing him would be, presumably you are looking at 7-8 years at well over 20 million per annum. Obviously he is a great pitcher now but we are seeing pitchers decline much faster than they used to now in the post-roids (or post-obvious roids) era.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I'm definitely not a fan of this trade unless we can resign Price. However, I'm sure gonna enjoy watching him pitch for the next 2 (hopefully +) months. I think for what we gave up, we should have been able to get Cespedes as well or something. AA tried to get Cespedes for sure.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 As a fan, I'm surely excited. Though from a baseball perspective given the Jays sitting at .500 at the time of this trade, its a gamble. If the Jays were 55-45 or 59-40, sitting atop of the AL East, I definitely go all in. I think you have to when you're talking about a pitcher like David Price.

I agree, I love price, but this trade worries me....this team should have a much better record but have thrown away a lot of winnable games this year so far that has really hurt them. After saying that e next 2 months should be intereting.

You can't blow games like the one in Seattle on Sunday and can't lose a game like the one against the Phillies on Tuesday.
Nexii Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I approve of it. If the Jays had gotten a WC spot without Price the odds of winning that one game playoff would have been very low against most team's aces. Now the Jays will have at least 50/50 odds if not better in such a game.
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 well Alex is certainly giving Beeston a nice little retirement present ... August & September will be the most exciting 2 months of Blue Jays baseball since '93 ... pretty good chance Price gets us to at least the Divisional series ... nobody wants to face the Jays in a WC game ... don't even think the Yankees are home and dry yet (but 8 back in the loss column with just 60 left is a tall task)
howard Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Official deal: Price for Norris, Boyd, Labourt. Do you approve of the deal or not, given the Blue Jays position and the cost of Price. I'd be excited if Gibbons was replaced. Otherwise, we are doomed to mediocrity.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I'd really like this trade if: -Price was under control for next year as well or -the Jays were sitting in the Royals or Yankees place right now. As it is it feels like a lot for a rental for a chance to maybe get to a coin flip game.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I'm glad we gave up this package for Price as opposed to what the Rangers gave up for (a very highly paid) Hamels
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I'm glad we gave up this package for Price as opposed to what the Rangers gave up for (a very highly paid) Hamels It's all about the control, if Price had the same contract, he would've gotten the same haul.
nonamejays Verified Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Give Buehrle's money to Price plus a few bucks and we're golden.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Apparently Price will sign either with in LA or Chicago. I heard he'll sign wherever the most money is.
Mac Outlaw Verified Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 I think we make the playoffs after this trade. Therefore I approve.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 I love the trade, but I'm not a fan of Norris, I think Boyd sucks, and Labourt I've never seen. I'm also not a scout. I do know we just added Tulowitzki and Price and that's insanity!
fapaholic Verified Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 I'm ok with the trade. Of course I'd rather keep Norris, but I'm not sure he'll be as good as we had hoped anyway. Another positive is that players notice these things. Even Price said it himself when he talked about the team going out and actually doing something for a change. These kind of things will make players more willing to listen to offers as free agents..hopefully
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 the cost was low for a greatly improved chance at postseason and WS Norris' stuff didnt excite me at all... he'll be good if he can find elite control, he doesn't have it yet and probably never boyd and labourt are RP at best
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 I'd be excited if Gibbons was replaced. Otherwise, we are doomed to mediocrity. Is the Toronto Sun's comment section leaking?
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 I have lost a lot of faith in Norris becoming the pitcher I thought he would be as of late. Therefore I approve.

jays76 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Love Norris, I think he'll figure it out eventually and be dynamic when he does. The cost was huge but with big risks comes big rewards. If we make the playoffs and go on a deep run the city will be on fire and it'll be well worth it..
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 On this Board I'm suprised with the relative popularity of this deal. One top prospect for a rental of Price's pedigree with this offense, and now improved D with Tulo is a reasonable Price to pay. Flags fly forever. AA has balls if nothing else and he will live and die by the sword on this likely.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Voted yes but I would hope Price signs with us long term. Let me dream for a few months.

Caper Verified Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Another solid trade. Of course it's expensive as hell. But that is what you spend.
RPG Verified Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Always exciting when your team pulls the trigger on known aces. I'll enjoy the rest of the season knowing theres a significant immediate talent upgrade. After 22 years, a bit of legit excitement is warranted
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Yes. I can't believe anyone who's been a fan of this team through this 22 year drought actually hates this trade. We've been waiting on prospect for years on years now, and the only prospect we give up is Norris in exchange for Price, the first #1 starter we've had since Roy Halladay, and along with the best offence in baseball and renewed energy in the ballclub we're poised to do something that we haven't done in 22 YEARS. I even think that, if the Yanks don't do anything, we might overtake them for the division lead. We have what, 60 games and we're only 6 games back and this is with a Jays team that had Reyes instead of Tulo and rotated Dubrount/Copeland/etc in the #5 spot for the past month/2 months. It is very doable IMO. Imagine Price starting with this potent offence behind him? Also lets not forget that Norris has been struggling this year with controlling walks in AAA, not taking anything away from his talent, but he might be a question mark down the line he's no guaranteed Ace, we can trade a bat in the offseason for a prospect even better I bet. #FlagsFlyForever
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Idk what Fatcow is talking about with all this "waiting" business considering we're both like 12, lol.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 I would have liked this trade....well, at least understood this trade....if the Jays were either closer to the division or leading it. Getting Price for what looks like a one game playoff is insane. They might not even be able to use him in the WC game if they need him just to get in (like if he has to start to final game of the year to get in), and even if he does start the game, there's no guarantee he wins. There's also a chance they don't even make the WC game. If they make an improbable comeback to overtake the Yankees, then I might change my view, but I think this was very short sighted, and this coming from someone who thinks Norris is overrated. Sign Price long term after the season, and that changes everything. Hire Drake as ambassador if need be.
