Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Sweet, Hoffman the only prospect we gave up who matters. Of all our top guys, I'm glad it was him instead of Norris or Pompey or even Alford.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'm seeing this thread and reading it But I just woke up, just started sipping a coffee and I'm decided not to beleive any of it until I've finished at least 2 cups
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 10 years in league, 5 with same team. Gives you the powah Forgot about that quirk. Well I guess that changes things. Thanks guys. It looks entirely possible that the 2012-15 Jose-Edwin juggernaut could be replaced by a Donaldson-Tulo juggernaut after 2016 (though I hope they're able to resign Jose). I also think it's entirely possible AA doesn't land a SP (though not for lack of trying). This is a long-term move, and even if it doesn't help the biggest hole on the team this year most people will be in high spirits come spring training 2016 (and for the next few years).
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I wonder if Alex takes a shot at Puig
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Guys this will be a disaster for us. Taking on that massive contract for a declining player + giving up prospects when our real problem is pitching? lol...trolololol.
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 10 years in league, 5 with same team. Gives you the powah Yea and Tulo is in his 10th year so I think after this season they'd be locked with that big contract.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 The way they are talking this trade up.on the radio scares me. It was the same with acquiring Reyes

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 The way they are talking this trade up.on the radio scares me. It was the same with acquiring Reyes It wasn't just "acquiring Reyes". It was acquiring Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson as well. On paper that move made the Jays a legit threat in the East. It was only for enormous bad luck that it all fell through. Also, a big trade gets big hype and the media gets to spin a new story for a while. It's to be expected.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 This trade only makes sense if he also trades a top bat for a quality starter
flafson Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Yea and Tulo is in his 10th year so I think after this season they'd be locked with that big contract. It seems like Tulo had in his contract a clause that says if he was traded, he gets a full no trade afterwards. So we can't trade him anyway now.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Trade Edwin for pitching yes Infield of Smoak, Travis, Tulo, and Donaldson, with Goins on the bench is pretty excellent defensively
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Why such good prospects leaving in a trade for a guy on a hefty contract
flafson Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Trade Edwin for pitching yes Infield of Smoak, Travis, Tulo, and Donaldson, with Goins on the bench is pretty excellent defensively We can't trade Edwin, he can veto it. I guess the theory is, if you can't limit the opponents scoring runs on you, just outscore them.
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 It seems like Tulo had in his contract a clause that says if he was traded, he gets a full no trade afterwards. So we can't trade him anyway now. He hasn't played a game here, he would certainly be open to a large number of teams to decide where be wants to play. I don't think they'd move him now anyway, the drop off in value of Tulo to Goins is damn high unless we get a controllable ace back.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Why such good prospects leaving in a trade for a guy on a hefty contract I think they project him to still add 2 wins this season.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 This is not a deal to like long term. Tulo has his bad hip and is signed for quite a lot when he is not going to be able to play the field. He's most likely headed to the DH spot in a couple of years if not sooner. Hoffman/Castro should have been used to get a stud pitcher, not a declining SS with a big contract.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'm buying a Tulo jersey this week!!!! You said you'd buy one the next day...liar!!
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I don't know what to think about this trade... I get that Tulo is a superstar but I mean... if they were gonna be buyers it should have been pitching...
TRM Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I don't know what to think about this trade... I get that Tulo is a superstar but I mean... if they were gonna be buyers it should have been pitching... You answered your own question.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Tulo is 30 years old so should still get 3-4 solid years out of him, even if it's at DH. This is a solid move for now and the future by AA.
jays76 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Wow just woke up and my mind is blown... Can't say I'm disappointed to see Reyes go but I'm still waiting for the doughboy to make a mid season move that actually addresses a need. I know a win is a win is a win but I'd have at least used the prospects to upgrade the rotation first. It kinda smells like this FO is planning on going out with a bang and the prospect lovers should be scared. The prospect lovers should be s***ing their pants right about now, AA & the Beezer are clearly all in. Definitely another huge move around the corner..
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I don't know what to do this morning
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I wonder if Alex takes a shot at Puig I'd prefer he stuck to dealing with dumb teams.
