5minutesforframing Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 His K/BB ratio has been superb. He tends to struggle against RHB and in a tie game where one pitch can decide the game, he shouldn't be there facing a RHB. All 6 HR's given up have come against RHB. Liam Hendricks should have been in that spot. I know its a small sample, though according to FanGraphs leverage index this season, Loup has a 4.10 xFIP in high leverage situations. Otherwise, he has been great. Shush, Loup sucks

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Shush, Loup sucks Yeah he's been awful in high leverage situations so far this season. That could change year to year. Otherwise he has been solid. Regardless, in a tie game where one swing can win the game for the Mariners, Loup shouldn't be in there against a right handed bat (all 6 HR's given up this season have been against right handed bats) when the Jays have Hendricks in the bullpen.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Because Loup 20.8% HR/FB rate is clearly going to continue going forward. Ca mon guys.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Because Loup 20.8% HR/FB rate is clearly going to continue going forward. Ca mon guys. Honestly, who cares? He is blowing big games when we need him the most. That and Gibbons doesn't have a goddamn clue how to manage the bullpen, it has been the way for a long time now.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I want someone in the Toronto media to grow a pair and ask Gibbons why Travis was benched today. Inexcusable if he was healthy and benched for a negative WAR player when there's a day off tomorrow.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Because Loup 20.8% HR/FB rate is clearly going to continue going forward. Ca mon guys. All damage has been done against right handed bats who crush LHP. Sure it won't continue going forward, though when you are in a tie game and one swing can lose you the game like what just happened, Loup shouldn't be in there.

Sure but it's a tie game and you don't know how long the game is going to go on for. Do you pull him after facing 1 guy? And it's not like he was facing Cruz. Sure Gutierrez hits lefty's well...but he's not a huge HR kinda guy.

Considering Loup's performance in high leverage situations this season, my preference is I don't want him facing a RHB bat in a tie game, when that one swing can lose you the game. Obviously, there is no right or wrong answer here. The argument you present is a valid one as well, since you don't know how long the game can go.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Well we do have a fairly capable long man in Hendriks. Yeah they still had Hendricks, who can pitch multiple innings if needed, along with Cecil and Osuna still in the BP.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 We lost? Time to discuss the offseason. Lots of good pieces for next year

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Bet you 150 jays don't make playoffs Sorry Tercet told me to only make min 10k bets.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Yeah they still had Hendricks, who can pitch multiple innings if needed, along with Cecil and Osuna still in the BP. It's easy to 2nd guess but we rolled the dice with Tepura and got out of it. Loup in high leverage against RHH with the options we had available was a poor descison. Loup is a useful arm imo but he has struggled all year in those situations.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Sorry Tercet told me to only make min 10k bets. i was talking 150 k
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 i was talking 150 k Much more reasonable.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Much more reasonable. I'll let you keep 50 of that when you win the home run contest
nextyear Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Certainly not a good offensive game by Goins. Goins didn't make any mistakes on defense but didn't have many chances. In hindsight playing Devon Travis for the full game might have made the difference. Carrera played a good game except for the one terrible baserunning mistake. In my opinion, if Loop isn't going to be used strictly as a Loogy, then he should be sent down to AAA (I thought that 2 months ago). I tend to think that as soon as he enters the game that the game is lost. I am hoping that Goins will be traded to another team. There seems to be too much negativity towards him in Toronto both from the fans and the manager. Maybe the change will do him good. Goins doesn't really fit on such an offensively minded team.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Why in the world would you trade Goins? You'd rather have someone like Tolleson and Kawasaki?
nextyear Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Why in the world would you trade Goins? You'd rather have someone like Tolleson and Kawasaki? No. I like Goins' defensive play and I would like to see him get a chance somewhere. I just don't think he fits in Toronto because he can't crush the ball.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 At least we didn't have an o-fer road trip out west like last season. Still a disappointing finish. Regardless, we're still only 3 and 5 back of a wild card, as neither Minnesota or Houston took advantage. Houston could be in for a tough week.. they play the Angels. And Minnesota showed that they may not be in it in October, with that pitching staff. ANd they've got Pittsburgh next, then these Mariners we just faced, who seem to be turning around offensively, since they made Edgar Martinez the hitting coach. At this point, I'm no longer concerned with the Yanks.. they're running away with the East at this point. Aiming now for one of the wild cards.. Minnesota I can't see adding much and will likely fade down the stretch, and who knows what Houston will do. At this point, us, Tampa, Baltimore, Detroit, Texas and even the White Sox can't be counted out.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 40-22 the rest of the way. It'll take less than that. Minnesota's not going to sustain their success. It'll likely take 35-37 wins to get a wild card from here. The Twins have a brutal sked in August.. there's a good chance they'll be out of it by the end of that month, and their September is no better. It is important for the Jays to add a pitcher ASAP.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 No. I like Goins' defensive play and I would like to see him get a chance somewhere. I just don't think he fits in Toronto because he can't crush the ball. Like you think he'd start on another team? yur dum
admin Site Manager Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I'll say it again. If you can't f***ing hit, you damn well better know how to bunt the f***ing ball. You shouldn't have a job if you can't even bunt the f***ing ball when needed.

You shouldn't have a job if you can't even bunt the f***ing ball when needed. I think every player should have the hand eye coordination to be able to sac bunt. The fact that Goins can't even lay down a sac bunt screams that he's delusional about his own talent level. If being able to bunt was the difference between you being a AAAA lifer or getting MLB money and a real career, you'd have to be a complete ass not to put the hours in to learn to be perfect at it.
labadee Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 alright i missed the last half of the game. the jays were up 4-3 when i left. what happened? who are we blaming for this
