Wins are because of the players

Losses are because of the manager. Duh.

Managers can contribute to wins/losses, today a perfect example. It is up to the manager to make good descisions, Gibby made several bad ones with Loup, DH'g navarro....

How about we place Some blame on the players who are actually determining the outcome. Loup needs to quit being so s*** and the team has to do a better job being patient with runners in scoring position rather then going up hacking at s***.

Umm we are? Many are blaming loup and the BP. That does not excuse poor managerial decisions by gibbons.

You can make the right moves and still lose.

Gibbons doesn't do that very often. Monday's loss against the Mets is an exception.

When the guy has given up 4 runs, and 2 men are on, how often is he going to get out of it. I just dont understand why he left Copeland in there to give up that homerun that everyone knew was coming. Showalter pulled a far more experienced starter in the exact same situation.

They had their chance to fire Gibbons before the big hot streak. They won't do it now.

If the Jays are not winning a blowout, they will find ways to lose, while idiots will talk about luck and pythag.

He's just not a good manager, Hendriks hadn't pitched in three days and he only gave him 2/3 of an inning. Were over 60 games into the season and he still doesn't know who our better pitchers are.

The pythag is still good, so no worries.

The sarcastic "good managing by Gibbons" will return when they win their next blowout. Rinse and repeat.

The fans of probably 80% of the league want the manager fired. It accomplishes f*** all.

San Diego is still bad. Miami is still bad. Firing the manager did f*** all. Direct your childish rage at the correct target.

Were not really a bad team though

This is the worst or second worst pitching staff in baseball. How is that on Gibbons? How will firing him fix that glaring issue?

I understand the pitching sucks. But I don't think Gibbons fields the best team available to him? And I think he mismanages the bullpen?

I wasn't huge on Gibby letting Cecil kill himself today, but just for shits: can someone tell me which giant-brained, super insightful individual is out there sitting on his couch not being employed by a Major League Baseball team? Assuming you believe that it is Gibby who is holding the team back, who should replace him?

Too bad Joe Maddon isn't available! He knows how to get the most out of his pitchers - f***, he's so good that even though he manages another team now the Rays staff is still phenomenal. How the f*** does he manage that?

This pitching staff would be bad no matter who the manager was.

On the other hand, no other major league team has hired gibbons to be their manager.

So I guess that all the other gm's are stupid, right?

At least our manager is not Brad Ausmus.

All we had left in the pen was Tepera and Osuna. Really, slugfests like this really tax the bullpen, no matter the manager.

The Rays starting staff is heavily babied by Kevin Cash. They've thrown the fewest amount of innings in MLB per game. Cash frequently yanks them after 5 innings, if that.. you can't sustain this through a full season. And Karns and Colome are regression candidates. And of course, Ramirez is headed to the DL, Odorizzi and Smyly are already there, and Cobb's out for the season. They're still waiting for Matt Moore as well.. and who know what they'll get from him.

Watch the Rays get torched in July and August when Cash frequently watches his bullpen get blown apart as bad as Brett Cecil did today because of overuse in the early part of the season.

My brain says you are right, but deep down something tells me the god damn Rays will find a way again.

^ People just dont get it around here. The entire philosophy is wrong. You cannot build a contender based on the Offense no matter how good the Offense the focus must be pitching. It just wont work.

Take Sanchez for example. What was he trending to be last year, a Plus Plus reliever who could close. However make him a starter, and he is clearly out matched. We all know Sanchez wont be a starter long term, too much contact. The only reason he is injured and not in AAA is because he has been lucky. He has been one of the worst starters in the majors last year. If he had been kept in the pen to start the year, so much more value could have been extracted from him. We would have solidified our position.

This was already a weak team from the pitching standpoint even with Stroman. In the offseason we lost Happ and Jansenn (Pitching well again). Who was acquired?

Is this supposed to be a reply to my post?

Who was acquired?

No one of note? What does this have to do with Gibbons?

Though I'm not surprised some posters around here can't grasp the concept of different individuals in an organization having different jobs and responsibilities.

I remember when Donaldson threw a ball into CF trying to make a heroic double play. Half the board blamed Bo Schultz, then Gibbons, then Alex Anthopolous.

It says a lot about a franchise that rehires a manager who it fired

So essentially

Jays fired Gibby saying he is not competent enough to manage at the MLB level,

then a few years later

rehired him, virtually saying he is competent??? So what about 2008? There is so little continuity here as a franchise. Why was he fired in 2008? He couldn't get the job done then, but now can get the job done? How many organizations do that. At least with Cito he won multiple world series championships, when he was let go, the tag line was a change is needed but what was the tagline of the Gibbons rehiring

Here is this guy, who didn't get the job done before, but look we are rehiring him because he is loyal and wont f*** us over for another job like Farrell. Maybe that was the problem, after Farrell screwed AA over, AA decided on Gibby because he knew Gibby would never get another job anyways. Sort of like marrying the ugly girl because no one will want to have an affair with her anyways.
