HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Both are totally different pitchers. But yes, Hutch needs to be sent down.

Swervin81 Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Hutch and Dickey can GTFO. Keep Estrada and Sanchez in. Though Sanchez has had nice luck on his side, they've both earned it. Get at least some semblance of a meritocracy here.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 It's time to get guys who are more consistent. The Jays for certain need 1 starter, 2 is probably ideal. Well 3 is ideal but that's crazy talk.
IronLadle Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 We don't have any depth, were stuck with him
Guest Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 You guys are dumb. You want a pitcher who has an 8-2 record to be sent down? He's a winner.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Hutch is throwing the ball just as well as he did last year.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 He needs to be sent down. Can't pitch on the road whether he's in a hitter's park or pitcher's park, or whether he's facing a good offense or bad one.

AdamLindsMom Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Hutch is throwing the ball just as well as he did last year. In the 2nd half last year he K'd over 10 per 9 and had a K:BB of almost 4
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Surprised to see you shortsightedly calling for someone's head Yes, because his 5.32 FIP on the road is exactly the same as his performance last season. Not a troublesome trend at all. I'd also suggest you look at Hutchison's numbers, especially in the 2nd half of last season, before you foolishly say he's just as good as he was last year.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 In the 2nd half last year he K'd over 10 per 9 and had a K:BB of almost 4 Overall, his numbers are pretty similar. Last year he was an above average starter, this year he is an above average starter. He's just the anti-Sanchez and once again we see people placing far too much stock in earned runs.

BABIP over .400 (not sustainable) HR/FB close to 14% Quality of contact virtually unchanged. Sounds like noise to me.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 If Hutch's road/home splits were remotely similar, I'd actually agree with the Gibby Lover, but the road #'s are worrying.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 his fastball looks flat compared to last year, and he relies on it way to much this year Almost every starting pitcher in baseball relies heavily on their fastball, and Hutchison's has been decent this year.

Who gives a s*** what his road FIP is, when his actual FIP is 3.69? That means he's compensating for his road struggles by consistently dominating at home. Which means overall, he's an above average starter, and overall, he is very valuable to the Blue Jays major league rotation. Drew Hutchison has been the Jays 2nd best starter this year.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 The BABIP monster http://ctrlv.cz/shots/2015/07/09/hK4N.png He's giving up harder hit balls more frequently which inflates his babip
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 He's giving up harder hit balls more frequently which inflates his babip So how hard opposing batters are hitting his pitches is determined by Drew Hutchison?

I agree that overall he's been fine (his home numbers are great) but he sucks on the road this season, and it's not flukey bad, it's clearly bad. Maybe it's something that normalizes as the year goes on, but it's shown no signs of improvement even against a s***** offense like the White Sox.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 He's giving up harder hit balls more frequently which inflates his babip You reaaaalllyyy don't get this whole sample size thing.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Boxy shut this bitch down. Send him down my ass. You guys are unbelievable, Sanchez gets lucky for 5 starts in a row and he's good but Hutch gets unlucky for most of his road starts and he's terrible. No such thing as context or looking beyond the obvious for some of you. Sanchez walks 7 and gives up 1 run ACE start. Hutch walks no one and gives up 5 runs while striking 7 BUM!
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 You reaaaalllyyy don't get this whole sample size thing. And you put way to much emphasis on luck

Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 So how hard opposing batters are hitting his pitches is determined by Drew Hutchison? Not entirely, but leaving flat fastballs and sliders up in the zone doesn't help
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Good thing that great pitching coach of ours is helping our flagging starters
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I don't understand how Pete walker has been getting a bye all season. These guys look like they aren't prepared at all.

So what the hell does that even mean? Why do his road starts matter more than his home starts? If his home starts are good enough to create an overall FIP of 3.65, an xFIP of 3.80 and a SIERA of 3.78, how do you justify sending him down? You don't, unless you're an idiot. His OVERALL numbers (the AVERAGE of his home and road stats) are enough to make him a top-40 pitcher in the majors in value. Anyone who advocates sending him down is retarded.
