TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Why add a 4 WAR starter when you can add a 1.5 WAR right? Where are you getting 4 win starters for the rest of the season...and a 1.5 win reliever (although I suppose Chapman projects to over 1)
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Not sure why there's AA hate on this. I would be far more excited over a great starter then a great closer. Our rotation has been a bigger problem then the BP. Ideal world we get both, but an impact starter will make a bigger difference to the team.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Clippard's been off all year...I'd be wary. the walks are up a bit, the velocity is barely down. Issue would be he's an extreme flyball pitcher in a hitters park. His FB's to the outfield are up over 50% this year.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 If we had just signed Krod how much better would we be right now
CaptMurphy Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Get a starter and move Sanchize to the bullpen. Fixes two weak spots in one transaction (assuming Sanchez is a good reliever). How does removing our #2 starter (sometimes our best starter) from the rotation help anything? Sanchez and Buehrle are the only two good starters we have. Want to help the rotation, get someone to add to them. Right now the problem with the rotation is when Dickey, Hutchinson and the #5 spot comes up. Taking Sanchez out of the rotation helps with nothing. I don't understand why they won't give Norris a second look. If he is any good, then you can get another starter and put Dickey into a long relief role, because he and Hutch are both useless, but Hutch is very young and could improve. Dickey is bad and will only get worse.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 How does removing our #2 starter (sometimes our best starter) from the rotation help anything? Well, it almost guarantees that someone better is starting instead, for one.

I suppose for accuracy, I should have said "Why acquire a 2.25 WAR starter, when you could get a 0.843 WAR reliever instead?"
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Well, it almost guarantees that someone better is starting instead, for one. Incorrect. Sanchez is a good pitcher
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Incorrect. Sanchez is a good pitcher Of course he is. And JP Arencibia is a good catcher.

theblujay Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Of course he is. And JP Arencibia is a good catcher. Sanchez had a great xFIP in the four starts before he got hurt. That's a FACT.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Of course he is. And JP Arencibia is a good catcher. This is the same as comparing any bad person to Hitler
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Change the subject when you know you're wrong lol He doesn't think he's wrong (nor should he IMO but that's not my point). He definitely thinks he's right. That much should be clear.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Boy, he sure loves xFIP when he thinks it proves him right. Hates it otherwise, though!

One stat doesn't mean that you have ALL the facts on your side. That being said, I don't think anyone should be too categorical one way or another about a young player.
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Boy, he sure loves xFIP when he thinks it proves him right. Hates it otherwise, though! The "gang" loves to use FIP for Sanchez instead of XFIP since he's a GB pitcher. It's fits the narrative better and you need some reason to hate him after all.

Funny thing here is that if he had a 5% HR/FB and his xFIP was through the roof, FIP would then be the stat to use.

He's got the "stuff" and ground ball abilities to be a great starter if he can improve his command. I'm on board, you're clearly not
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Blue Jays' bullpen has 3rd ranked SIERA in the entire league. and worst SV% in the entire league. late inning relief is a mess on this team.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 and worst SV% in the entire league. ok.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Cecil, Hendricks, Loup, Osuna are all good relievers. Am I the only one who see's this.. The negativity bias is real

thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Can't make another team trade a starter if they don't want to. Can I get this post blown up in bolded 72 font? It's like no one understands this.
abola2121 Verified Member Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 It's sad that we're still here arguing about AA's words instead of his actions (or lack thereof).
