baubau Verified Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 If you have a rogers cable subscription van you still watch jays game online There are two issues with that. 1. The online stream LAGS so I see a HR commented here or on twitter before I actually see it 2. You have to listen to Buck and Pat. With MLB you can choose the away feed. That alone was enough for me to pay for it.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Who is making the GDT today? This will determine the winner of the game tonight. Jonn? Where are you? You're on GDT duty! Need you to streak. You're at 1.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 The point was that it's why Sportsnet employs him. Can't pass up a chance to call her old.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Shi Davidi @ShiDavidi 2m2 minutes ago #BlueJays shutting down OF Michael Saunders for season, says John Gibbons. Knee still bothersome, running out of time. told y'all hes dead Too bad. Hopefully he can be healthy and productive in 2016. He was one of the guys I was most excited for coming into the season.

Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 lol saunders. He has been everything I expected him to be. Imagine if Pillar didn't step it up this year?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 lol saunders. He has been everything I expected him to be. Imagine if Pillar didn't step it up this year? You expected him to step on a sprinkler head in spring training?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 You expected him to step on a sprinkler head in spring training? no one thought he's be healthy all year. lol
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 You expected him to step on a sprinkler head in spring training? no, I expected him to be injured and miss a huge part of the season. How it happened is irrelevant. hope he's back healthy next year.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 You expected him to step on a sprinkler head in spring training? no one thought he's be healthy all year. lol lol...was tongue in cheek for sure. I always think/thought Saunders was over rated and injury prone but the poor guy hit a new unlucky low this year.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 The thing that sucks for Saunders is he had 60 percent of the meniscus removed from his left knee. Something he didn't need to do. He wanted to come back faster but is missing the entire season regardless. He made the decision but I think hes going to regret it for the rest of his career. Tendering him a contract would be extremely questionable. pretty sure the meniscus was unrepairable, which is why the decision to remove was made
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Just a general question: in 5 years time who will a better player between Schoop and Travis? I've been wanting an answer since I first saw Travis play.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Can't pass up a chance to call her old. While using Tom Arnold's career arc and Roseanne as reference points. Don't injure your dinosaurs, guys.
baubau Verified Member Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Just a general question: in 5 years time who will a better player between Schoop and Travis? I've been wanting an answer since I first saw Travis play. It is honestly hard to predict as so many things can change in 5 years. With all else being equal however, Travis. Schoop has a 49.1% - Pull%, 28.4% - Cent% and 22.4% - Oppo%. He's near a extreme pull hitter so the shift will always take away a lot of his hits, making him easier to defend. Right now with those stats and him spotting a .343 BABIP makes me think he's getting very lucky. Travis on the other hand has 31.3% - Pull %, 32.4 - Cent%, 36.4% - Oppo%. His hits are more evenly distributed. He may have more balls fall and as a result and his BABIP may be high throughout his career so his .347 doesn't raise as big of a eyebrow for me. Travis doesn't hit as hard as Schoop but he makes better medium contact. You can break it down further into their plate discipline. Schoop swings at more outside pitches than Travis and when Travis does swing for the outside pitches, he makes better contact than Schoop does. Travis doesn't swing as much pitches as Schoop does inside the zone, but he makes more contact on the pitches. There is a lot to like about Travis' game and hope his shoulder can hold up. I'd take him over Schoop but again, a lot can change in 5 years. Travis' injury may hamper him (*knock on wood* it doesn't) and Schoop can start hitting balls to the opposite field. Using 1 year of data isn't exactly ideal, but the only thing we can go by at this time.
Swervin81 Verified Member Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I'd try to tender Saunders at the min (80% of current contract) or non-tender and re-sign a la Smoak. I see Ben Revere being traded this offseason since he'll make a decent amount of coin after arb, so unless you get an OF in return (think Inciarte + Chafin type return), Saunders at ~$2.2M isn't that bad.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Wow. First time in 23 years?
DanielG Verified Member Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 that used to be impressive... not so much now a days- her best before date has come and gone. best before date... priceless comment. I'm laughing out loud here.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I'll be drinking and watching at my brother's place. hoping for good weather so we can watch the tv out on the deck. watching baseball, getting a tan, and being with family... doesn't get much better than that.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Didn't realize that Fox still broadcasts games. I thought everything was pretty much on SN or TSN. Very cool that they're getting a nationally televised game.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Im trying to like Ben Revere. We had a huge hole in LF and he is an upgrade. But his hacking and D are grating on me. Im trying to cut him some slack because both he and Tulo have struggled offensively since coming over. I keep thinking he is going to play a key role in some W's over the last 40. The guy is another 4th OF and almost needs his own thread. I'm not understanding the lack of SB attempts. Is that Gibby or him? I get that Tulo is hitting behind him but still...a guy like him has to have the green light.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 How does Chris Colabello continue to get the big hits. Astounding

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 In the Twins minor league system Revere had some very good offensive numbers In the majors he has been pretty much league average (annual WAR 1-2) with a career wRC of 85. A lot of his + value was from baserunning.

Don't want a strikeout in this at bat? He's gonna strike out, for a guy who doesn't strike out a lot. Want a fly ball? He'll give you a groundball. For a guy who should utilize his speed, he hits a lot of pop ups/fly balls. He should be a slap hitter. And he has that annoying hitch in his swing. But this is a guy who led the NL in hits so hopefully its all just adjusting to a new league (Which is a pretty BS excuse since he played with Minny)
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 How does Chris Colabello continue to get the big hits. Astounding He's actually a good hitter. It seems like he really truly is. He just can't play any position well.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 1-2 WAR is much better than replacement. To have 8 WAR by your 27th birthday is a real accomplishment for a player. Ben Revere wasn't a big prospect and has been pretty much what people expected of him (if not better) as a major leaguer. Oops, yes. I should have said league average. Corrected thx.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 He's actually a good hitter. It seems like he really truly is. He just can't play any position well. Very slowly people are starting to believe in his bat. He's been a top 10 line drive % player in baseball and hits it all over the field. He's been a pleasant surprise and had several big hits this year, without Colabello the Jays might be a few games worse.
