DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 That's possible. To me, Hutch is a great piece in a potential Hamels trade. Philly would be happy with a low cost, MLB ready starter for the same # of years as Hamels has left on his contract. And he likely transitions well to the NL. I'd 100% include Hutch in a Hamels deal. This team needs a top end lefty badly.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Only if they don't make it far in the playoffs. I'd trade anyone on this roster for a crack at the WS. Cueto is a 1-1.5 WAR upgrade on Hutch? Need to add Cueto without subtracting anyone from the current 25 man, if going all in.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Hutch needs to get things going. He needs to be going into the 6th and 7th, not 2-5 innings. it would be nice if AA could get another quality starter into the fold so our pen gets a lot less innings. Exactly hutch and loup and Cecil need to get it going and keep to going! Hence why sending them down for a breather and to figure it out might be the best ! Short term pain for long term gain deal ! We have wolf Durbont norris and Boyd to spell them off at our disposal too! Maybe one or two of them surprise and we don't even need a trade? Don't try and we never know and risk the prospects down on the farm and long term success of this team!

IMO it's more about what you think the difference is b/w Hutch and the next guy (Norris, Boyd, Estrada) in 2015. If you can get similar value to Hutch (this is where I struggle) than those 1.5 wins would be massive.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Norris and Travis for Cueto and Chapman? Of f***ing course You got to remember your giving up our top prospect for 2 months of Cueto then he likely jets.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Cueto and Chapman is the one short term "go for it" trade that I think might actually work. Chapman closing, Sanchez in the pen, and a true #1 starter for 2+ months. It would take a ton, though. Navarro back at DH today. Poor Smoak.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 You got to remember your giving up our top prospect for 2 months of Cueto then he likely jets. Cueto is a bonus. I'm more interested in Chapman. As for Travis, I'm not sold on him. Yes he looks like a professional hitter, a great guy and finally a nice 2B prospect since Hill, but I think it's a great time to sell high on him.

You better be 100% if your giving up 2 controllable high upside type players that can play NOW. Even then i don't think i do it.

Which appears you already knew that, as you are now mocking me with them.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I can see other teams asking for Travis for sure. I think a package of Travis and Norris can probably bring back a serious pitching haul ( Ace plus elite reliever) probably that's where the deal.is with Cincy

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Norris and Travis for Cueto and Chapman? Of f***ing course IMo something like Hutch + Castro + Navarro would work better for both teams.
Smokey Verified Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Selling low on Hutch when he's still arguably your best starter is as counterproductive as it gets. I'll bet money that Hutch will outperform every other starter in this staff the rest of way (unless he's dealing with an injury that we don't know about).
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 There is a stable of arms similar to Hutch a year or two out; IMO he's that perfect combo of replaceable/valuable that makes sense to move as long as you are getting over the hump and in to the playoffs.

Yet, Alex has been on the job trying to develop arms for 6 years and he's pretty much the best they've got right now. You're severely underestimating his value to this team and the likelihood of him being more successful down the road than guys like Sanchaz, Estrada and even Dickey.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 IMo something like Hutch + Castro + Navarro would work better for both teams. If the Reds are giving up Cueto and Chapman they would really have no need for a mediocre to poor catcher whose contract expires at the end of the year.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 IMo something like Hutch + Castro + Navarro would work better for both teams. I honestly cannot see that package having the same value. Navarro is FA and would be of no value. AA may have to look at doing what the Cards did a few years back when they turned Rasmus into Jackson Frasor and Scrabble and won a world series

He's been developing the system for 6 yrs but they'd be a lot further ahead without that Marlins and Dickey deals. He has another wave coming up. It makes sense to move from a position of strength and young arms is the Jays biggest strength right now.

They're playing Brayan Pena right now and Mesoraco is done for the season. Navaroo would be a decent one year stop gap to replace him. They could also flip him at the deadline if they decide they are out of it.
