F/O did a good job of replacing the departing players, either via FA or trade, with cheaper alternatives like Smoak, Estrada, Saunders. Even in terms of depth with guys like Carrera, Barton, Colabello.

And even though we'd all prefer Pillar as a 4th OF, he has outperformed Anthony Gose so far which is pretty big when you traded Gose for Travis.

Possibly one of his best moves of the offseason! :P

I'm not an AA fan, but he was absolute money in the off-season. Every value move he made was sensible and in most cases a huge upgrade.

He went derpy after Stroman got hurt but prior to that, he was awesome.

Remind me who was available after Stroman went down?

People have been really critical of AA but he's actually done a good job with depth position players. Carrera, Collabello, Goins and even Pillar (I think he's too good to be included in this group) have contributed positive value when injuries hit.

Heck, the Smoak singing was a great signing as well for only a million bucks.

Estrada in the rotation, Sanchez in the pen, Castro/Osuna in the minors, Delabar/someone else in the pen, and Navarro on another team. He got all of those wrong (though Osuna has panned out so I'll go easy on him there even though it's still stupid long-term).

Most of these are minor in comparison with losing their best SP which is what you mentioned. And most of these moves have been corrected. As it stands the team has young guys like Boyd and Norris as SP depth at Buffalo. The biggest issue is at the front of the rotation.

We'll see what happens.

My boss thinks Norris will be traded for Papelbon+90% of his contract. I called his ********. Thoughts?

E: I should add that I live in Philadelphia and he's a die hard Phillies fan. I don't think RAJ could get anything of value for any of his pieces, ever.

I call ******** as well. AA's not that desperate.

Kazmir, Chavez Clippard! What seems fair? Really

All 3 are flyball pitchers. That may work in Oakland, but here in these AL East bandboxes? Ummm...

the knowledgeable posters, such as myself, were ok with 3/30 for Melky, which as it turns out, would have been worse than Mouser..... and the same posters also knew Saunders is a much better all around ballplayer

this prob isn't true

other than that though...

last year, when Melky had a good season with the Jays (by his stds), he amassed 2.4 WAR in 139 games. Saunders accumulated 2 WAR in 78 games. over the same number of games Saunders blows Melky away

I think it would be interesting to claim Aumont (if he makes it to us). Put him down in the pen as a long man and try to work out his wild issues. He has a nice arm, is from Canada, and is controllable for a long time.

I'd put in a claim, keep him in AAA. Try to sneak him through waivers later, maybe...

Jays have gone 14-3 and have basically gained NO ground in the AL East... FML

I think its good that they have managed to hold their place in the race

Though I like others am increasingly begining to accept the fact that the pitching is just not good enough. It maybe just that simple.

Are there any doubts? Just looks at his stats!

f***, this team's requirement to save a few million and recycle a bunch of s***** arms in the bullpen has cost us the season.

Had to vent.

You mean the stats coming into today that had a 3.20 xFIP, 10.23 K/9, 2.86 BB/9, 3.57 K/BB? Nothing wrong with those numbers. I'd take him out of the closer's role for now since he seems to have lost his confidence (probably slot Delabar in), but not because of his ERA.

As tough as it is to lose the last 2 games, the last thing I want to see is AA make another Esmil Rogers/Marlins/Dickey trade.

I really have seen him give away enough assets for pitching where I can say he's not very good at it.

Cueto is a legitimately elite pitcher. Last 5 years of sub-3 ERA and low-3 FIP. He's utterly elite. It's not like Dickey who relied on a pitcher's park with a flyball pitch.
