Yeah if Amaro was going to accept a laughable package he would have been gone by now. I think he's asking for the sky and then some.

What would be the 2015 equivalent of 2010 Kyle Drabek, Travis d'Arnaud, and Michael Taylor? That's all I'd give Amaro.

Hoffman/Pentecost and Pompey?

Halladay had a team friendly contract though. I'd offer less

Pass.

Just answered his question, as someone else said it'd likely take Norris over Hoffman, that's a scary deal any way you look at it.

I know you were and wasn't necessarily disagreeing with you, just with the package.

Addison Russell (a top 10 prospect at the time) got a year and a half of Samardzija + 3 months of Hammel. Eduardo Rodriguez (I like him just as much or better than Norris but it's debatable) got half a year of Andrew Miller. Hamels is on a pretty reasonable contract considering it's only 3 more years + a vesting option. He's absolutely going to get at least one player as good as Norris/Hoffman and probably more.

I think most of the board are in this boat. We all want to see the jays get some more pitching, but are all terrified at what it will cost.

Fair.

AL East wide open this year and Edwin, Jose and Jose R all aging. Mark B and RA (likely-option) gone 2016. Some think that's easily backfilled with Stro, Sanchez (might be heading back to pen), Boyd, Hoff, Norris, Hutch which is true if ALL goes well. Hard to replace those 400 IP imo.

We have an excellent offense and adequate to + D

We do not have the arms now imo to make it and push if we do get there. You have to give to get which sucks. That's what confuses me about Rogers not budgeting more $ for FAs, where we don't have to give up the talent we are developing..."just" dough usually with a premium.

This is the year.

The long and short of this is if we were to deal for Hamels, it'll cost a shitload of value.

lol...yup. that's about the size of it. the other long and short of it is that I don't think we have enough quality arms now even with this O to make it and to push if we do.

Were fourth in the division mate

Dude...4th means nothing. We are f***ing 2 games out with 80+ games left.

At one point last year a couple months in WE were 5 games up! The whole point of a deal is to make that push over the top.

I agree with this and even if we acquire Cueto/Chapman or Hamels/Papelbon we might still come up short, but if we wait a year we'll have Stroman back and a lot of money to work with.

Money is useless because Free Agents dont want to come here (With the exception of Martin who is Canadian to begin with)

You will have to go 10 years back the last time this team signed a significant FA

I love STRO but he has started 20 games in MLB coming off knee surgery. Not planning the CY parade just yet. Next year ...next year...next year? Why waste this O and the fact that we are there in it right now this season? JD and Martin were huge upgrades from 2014 team. Who knows when Edwin, Jose squared really start to slow down.

It's probably because AA tries to low ball guys.

I'm in the "time is now" camp. If you get Hamels/Papelbon now, we can compete 2015 AND 2016. Plus you look at the rest of the division and outside of the Red Sox and the Rays pitching, I'd argue no one else has a great farm system that will blow away the competition in the coming years. So even if we are middling around starting 2017 it will be absolutely worth it, especially if it means a division title and a playoff run (with a World Series ring possibly at the end).

If we make trades this year and they don't work we likely shoot ourselves in the foot for next year. If we do nothing we still have a shot this year and go into next year with a better chance

Totally agree. They should be willing to give up a lot (Norris or Hoffman + Pompey) for Hamels + Papelbon if they can work out the contracts. If they suck in 2018 nobody will care if they make a couple postseason runs, and maybe even get a ring!

I wish the Blue Jays would develop more of their own talent or trade for good prospects (such as what they did with Devon Travis). High priced, established players on other teams tend to be overpriced and have little loyalty for the Blue Jays organization.

The grass is always greener attitude really annoys me. The Blue Jays are winning now, so why try to fix something that isn't broken?

with jays offense don't need Hamels..... Haren would do

I don't know what that means. Haren is a good pitcher and Hamels is an ace. The Jays are more than a Haren away still I think.

Chase Anderson, Andy Cashnaa, Aaron Harang, Mike Leake, Kyle Lohse, Mike Fiers, Jordan Lyles are good choice

It means rather than overpay for an ace with your top prospects, keep them and get a Haren for a couple of B prospects. With Jays offense, a No 2 or 3 starter can provide No 1 starter results.

Mike Leake is ideal, high GB% perfect for RC

Jays have developed a good amount of talent under this F/O. However, some of it has been traded away to compete NOW and appease some of the fanbase.

I'm in the group that is willing to wait for the farm to bear fruit or to trade part of the farm for young, cheap guys. I'm not big into going for "it" for a season or 2 at the expense of a sustainable contender with a flexible payroll.

In fairness, so many are fed up of waiting for 20 years so it is what it is. It's certainly not an easy position to be in as a F/O as many who want the farm traded for an "Ace" will rip them later on.

Mike Leake was arrested on a shoplifting charge at a downtown department store Monday, accused of trying to steal six shirts with a total value of $59.88.

The 23-year-old starter was booked at the Hamilton County Justice Center on a first-degree misdemeanor charge of shoplifting. It carries a maximum of 180 days in jail.

Can't believe this, but I agree with a mejican! Oh well, I guess I'm not as smart as I thought...
