Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Not really. In this circumstance it makes sense; kid nobody was in on until late, pre draft arrangement to sign for 300k etc. I'm honestly not sure what you're saying "not really" to here. If it was any other sought after HS arm he wouldn't sign for half his slot. Like metafour said still way less than he thought he'd get. The pro coaches argument is moot to me too, as there are numerous programs throughout the United States who have better coaching than lower level minor league teams. There are also coaches in college programs that will let a guy throw 350 pitches in 5 days...
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Saving money for Singer and/or Pruitt money
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Jim Callis 3rd-rder Justin Maese signs w/@BlueJays for $300k (pick 91 value = $636,400). Texas HS RHP, flashes 96 FB & mid-80s slider. @MLBDraft
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 So a victory for Jays' scouting? Not necessarily. Maybe they went a bit cheap with the pick on purpose? Espada is a victory for Jays scouting.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2015 Author Posted June 16, 2015 Saving money for Singer and/or Pruitt money Don't need to save money for Singer, he all but said that he's gonna sign for around slot. Their key over-slot targets are Crouse, Eden, and on a very very long stretch, Pruitt.

Surely it makes life easier, but doesn't really change your day to day life. And yes, there are coaches like that. Ryan Goins went 3-5 the other day with a HR. Just because these things happen, doesn't mean they happen with any type of regularity.

But at the same time, someone must've done something right to identify a 3rd rd kid in TX. Maybe I'm blowing smoke. Who knows.

It really depends on the situation, I honestly don't know anything about the kid, but if he's from a really poor family, that could change lives. Plus, he gets paid (albeit not much) to play baseball every day.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Looks like a few under slot signings. Who r they targeting to use the savings on?

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Sounds like they will have 500k-1 Million to sign some of the late round picks if you include the 15% tax. Should be able to get a couple.

Should be able to get a couple. They can only go into a 5% maximum overage. With the 5% included, they have $849,450 extra cap space available right now.

King Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Marrick Crouse is still deciding.. “I picked the University of San Francisco because it’s a great academic school that has some very good coaches that have been part of that program for 15+ years,” explained Crouse. “I went up there a couple times and every time I went it felt like a family. My selection by the Blue Jays will definitely play a big part and what I decide to do. It’s a big decision with pros and cons both ways. I’m just trying to take some time and decide what’s best for my future.” http://jaysprospects.com/2015/06/15/interview-blue-jays-2015-draftee-marrick-crouse/
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Players left still to sign - Brady Singer (reportedly signing) Daniel Young (Currently playing in college world series, likely to sign after) Marrick Crouse (undecided) Daniel Perry (undecided, likely going to school) Chandler Eden (undecided) Reggie Pruitt (going to school) Ryan Feltner (undecided) Gabriel Clark (undecided) Kyle Davis (undecided) Randy Labaut --> Guy is a phantom, not one person tweeted out congrats after he was drafted.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 The one draft pick I hope the Jays don't sign is Gabriel Clark. Not really interested in filtering through all the gay porn that comes up every time I put that name into Twitter. I like to keep my baseball and gay porn separate. I hope the Jays never draft anyone named Dillion Samuels, Tommy Anders, or Justin Taylor.
