AS A SOPHOMORE (2014): Earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll…Named to the Watch List for the 2014 Pitcher of the Year Award by The College Baseball Hall of Fame…Was a perfect 5-0 with a 2.23 earned run average and one save in 25 appearances…His nine starts tied for second on the Gators…In 48.1 innings, the lefty totaled 36 strikeouts and gave up 18 walks…Played in eight SEC contests, with five starts, and was 1-0 with a 4.20 ERA…Registered eight K in 15 innings…Appeared in all three matchups with top-ranked Florida State and was 2-0 in 11.2 innings in which he did not surrender a run and tallied 11 strikeouts…Tossed 4.1 scoreless innings against No. 22 Mississippi State at the SEC Tournament…Started the second game of the series with No. 10 Vanderbilt and put up zeroes over three innings…Earned the win over Georgia that completed a weekend sweep at McKethan Stadium (5.0 IP, 8 H, 2 R)…Defeated No. 1 Florida State in Tallahassee by matching his career high of five strikeouts over five scoreless frames…The 8-0 score marked the first time that the Orange and Blue had kept the Seminoles off of the scoreboard since 1994…Had four strikeouts in 3.2 innings of shutout ball as UF handled the Seminoles in Jacksonville…Drew the start against FSU in Gainesville and twirled three shutout innings…Went five innings in his first start of the campaign against Southern Miss in Pensacola, with four K and one earned run…Enjoyed 11 consecutive scoreless appearances between March 8-April 20…Credited with the win over UCF after 3.2 shutout frames in which he notched a pair of strikeouts and held the Knights to one hit…Closed the Gators’ season opener versus Maryland with two perfect innings to collect his first career save.

 

AS A FRESHMAN (2013): Named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll…Ranked fourth on the Gators with 22 appearances and tied for third on the squad with seven starts…Was 3-4 with a 4.28 ERA over 40 innings, the fourth-highest total on the Gators…Registered 23 strikeouts and issued 13 walks…Made 12 appearances in SEC play, with six-straight weekend starts (Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Missouri, Tennessee, LSU)…Turned in a 2-2 league mark and had a 4.13 ERA, with 12 strikeouts and nine walks in 28.1 innings…Fanned the only Texas A&M batter he faced during the SEC Tournament…Had back-to-back relief appearances in the final two games at Georgia after seeing time in the final two meetings with Auburn…Set down all three hitters he faced in the 7-1 victory over Florida Atlantic…Started the finale at No. 3 LSU…Worked a career-high 5.2 scoreless innings and picked up the win in the series opener against Tennessee…Posted the triumph over USF when he was boosted by a six-run fifth innings…Limited No. 8 South Carolina to two runs over 4.1 innings but was not involved in the decision…Totaled three strikeouts over four innings at No. 17 Mississippi State…Earned first collegiate victory with 5.1 innings of shutout ball in which he surrendered one hit to defeat No. 11 Ole Miss…Recorded a personal-best five strikeouts in four innings versus No. 4 Florida State in Jacksonville…Did not allow any hits or runs in two relief stints at No. 2 Vanderbilt…Collegiate starting debut came against No. 5 Florida State at McKethan Stadium (3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 K, 1 BB)…Used twice in the series with Indiana and he totaled 1.1 scoreless frames…Induced an inning-ending double play by the only Georgia Southern batter he faced…Debuted with a strikeout in the ninth inning on opening nght versus Duke.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Left-handed pitcher from Saint Andrew’s School who played for head coach George Sands…Earned all-state honors in Class 4A, as well as Palm Beach Post first-team all-area and first-team all-county recognition from the Sun Sentinel following his senior season…Earned the Scots’ Most Valuable Player, Best Pitcher and Best Hitter awards that year…Totaled over 100 strikeouts on the hill in his final campaign…Threw his second no-hitter of the season to lead Saint Andrew’s past Cardinal Newman, 1-0, in a District 12-4A semifinal…Registered seven strikeouts during the gem…Also scored the game-winning run when he came home on a two-out single in the fourth inning…Had held Community Christian hitless in a 5-1 victory in early April, a contest in which Young racked up 11 K…Mentioned as a top player on ESPN High School’s Florida All-State Baseball Team prior to his final prep campaign…Led the country with 11 round-trippers as a junior and was first-team all-area and all-county.

College JR. Sounds like a bullpen arm. hopefully its underslot.

 

Interesting observation BB. Could be a way to save some pennies for later while filling a system need (bullpen)?
