Maahfaace Verified Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Are you queer ? Hey nothing wrong if you are.. just remember this is a bluejay baseball forum, and making derogatory comments on a person's looks is very childish. I'm a heterosexual and never even thought to question his looks, or anyone else on any baseball team. Men don't interest me that way. But I suppose a man's looks is important to you. I apologize if your are a female, born a female, not a transgendered once a male hormone saturated man. Just wondered what makes people like you the way you are. ^ Ugly and insecure

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 There's actually nothing "holy s***" about it. Projections now have Colabello ahead of Smoak on offense (and BsR if you want to be picky). At the very least he should be platooning with Smoak unless his defense at 1B turns out to be inadequate. I have only seen him play 1b once and yeah this might be nit picking but this is a really sloppy amateurish play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6VUfyNC300 . Fast forward to 1:35:23. He fields it fine, but could have just ran to the base himself, but no he decides to give a crappy toss to Estrada. Yes Estrada should have caught it but i was always taught as a defender when you can make an out without throwing the baseball you take it. I'd take Smoak 100 percent of time at 1b even on his supposed weak side.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Like i said this is maybe nit picking but in a 1-2 game sample size I've seen him play 1B there are definitely warning signs he sucks at 1B and will cost them a lot of runs over there to.

And the toss looked okay to me, just happened to be in Estrada's line of sight. I'll have to see more to judge for myself. People sure are eager to take the 160 wRC+ guy out of the line-up... though admittedly he needs to be removed from the OF.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I don't understand people on here sometimes... You're complaining about his defense? He's a first baseman who's been asked to play out of position - what did you expect? Would you s*** all over EE or Smoak if they drew the short straw and were stuck out there? Even after this obvious point has been made - people continue to say moronic things like "how do you like him, he plays the worst defense of all time". Stupid. Any why can't we just enjoy a hot streak for what it is? We all know the regression gods will hit him at some point....but no, no, that's not good enough, we have to point that out like 32 times in one thread.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Just enjoy the ride. There's such a thing as going on a hot streak because a player is locked in, I refuse to credit CC's success to just luck. Instead of looking for advanced metrics to argue why he isn't good, why not just enjoy the fact that he's been helping the team offensively in a big way.

Well the regression is coming and he is going to cost us a lot of games that's what we're worried about. We all know this front office is content with having him play in lf ahead of a competent guy in Carerra.

We all know this front office is content with having him play in lf ahead of a competent guy in Carerra. There's absolutely nothing to suggest he'll play over Carerra when he cools off. What a ridiculously stupid assumption. The Jays are riding the hot hand right now, while sacrificing some defense along the way. There's an extremely strong chance that Carerra's also "hot" right now and that he'll regress significantly if given everyday at bats.

I think most people are fine with the fact that he's hitting well at the moment. The problem with not investigating why he's doing as well as he has is that it may impact decision making down the road when regression catches up to him. Pillar is a classic example. Hot(ish) start, dazzling plays in the field. He's probably our starting CF for the next 3-4 years as a result.

Based on a highlight reel catches and 2 HR game off Scherzer? .637 OPS after his recent rebound although he is at 1.8 WAR off the D. Gose is at 1 WAR with a .727 OPS. Edited June 8, 2015 by BigCecil

All we need to accept is that the streak is not sustainable. Whether or not we call it "luck" is immaterial. You can call it just as easily call it being hot. The point is he won't sustains this. That's all that matters.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Kevin Kiermaier is the most handsome player in baseball. It would actually be kind of fun if MLB ran that "Face of MLB" thing again but only took into account the player's actual face. I can see it now, a final between Kiermaier and HJM. Would be awesome.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 So the babip monster is going to get Colabello but not Gose No. Gose has been regressing as expected off a hot start. His SB numbers are consistently not great. He just isn't the speed threat many thought he might be. I think the WAR comparison to Pillar is interesting at this point in season given how poorly Pillar has done at the dish.

Well when the question of the thread is whether or not he can stick, presumably the question would be can he stick long term. Since there more to long term thinking than a current hot streak with the bat, and defense is a thing that helps win ball games... and he sux at, regardless if it's 1b, LF or anywhere .... and it's not possible to sustain his current hot streak, it bears mentioning in people's arguments that don't see him as a long term piece, along g with their reasoning as to why. Seeing 1 person mount an argument and then 75 people say "I agree" or " I disagree" isn't exactly meaningful discourse.

If Pillar is seen as a long term OF option as a starter... player evaluation on this team is awful.
