I'm not sure if it was mentioned elsewhere, but Valencia hurt himself on the dugout steps (yeah, really). I'm guessing that's why they called Collabello up for a game or two.

BJ Ryan was awesome period, until his arm exploded. #pitchersoverrated

Pitchers may be overrated but pitching certainly isn't.

I don't think Colabello was even on the roster. I believe he was added and Jayson Aquino was DFA'd.

you're right.

Or it could be because Colabello was doing well in AAA. .337/.421/.554 in 95 plate appearances.

He's probably just as good as Smoak, and maybe a little more in-the-groove right now.

Does anyone else feel like this team has a beer league softball team feel? We have 3 first baseman on the active roster. Two of the four outfielders are injured. A back-up infielder hurt his knee falling down the steps Monday. (He was not drunk). We are expecting to win games 10-9. We keep shuffling old guys and our friends (Canadians) on the roster, while moving out young pitching with potential.

Only a matter of time before someone goes up to bat and holds the bat backwards for a 'hilarious' joke. Or maybe they call time to run over and chug a beer during an at-bat. Funny times.

Reed Johnson (.390 OBP), Gregg Zaun, Russ Adams and Eric Hinske. It was a nice, nice bench.

It's a shame we only had 3 good starters that year and Burnett only made 21 starts.

It really makes you wonder what might've been with 2007 if we could've had Lilly and Meche with Halladay and Burnett and one of McGowan, Marcum or Litsch who were all pretty good that year.

Yeah! Imagine if we had even 3 good starters this year ? Damn it !

Collabello playing LF tonight with Carerra in right, Jose getting night off, Smoak at 1B.

Sounds like going with CC tonight on DK would be wise.

Jays are going to slaughter CC tonight, in saying that, I'll start him. :P

I thought he meant Chris Collabello :P

He plainly meant Carlos Carrasco. Although Kansas City doesn't strike out much.

I assume you guys are done whining about Colabello being called up now?

The usual clowns have been silenced.

They were silenced as soon as the injury situation justifying the callup became clear. Good job taking Greenwood's bait though.

Hard to see where he fits. He's got to be an even worse OF defender than Valencia. 1B/DH all the way

This is still true. There's no way that Colabello hits well enough, in a sustainable sample size, to make up for his statuesque LF defense. Some of the worst we've seen in the last several years.

If Edwin plays first, he's probably a top choice to be DH. Smoak is not a great hitter, and I'm not sure who the other contenders are.

I'm still totally pissed off about that Lind for Estrada deal.

Who's whining about Colabello, the position is clogged, that's the problem?

Thinking Colabello is better than Smoak right now makes no sense, he's hot at the moment, but I'd rather Valencia back in the line-up over Colabello.

I'm saying the Colabello callup was puzzling until it really wasn't puzzling anymore when more information emerged (Valencia injury, Tolleson coming back). Not sure what your problem is.

I know your point, as that's what I was concerned with, but his rebuttal was funny.

he played for the Twinkies last year. Hit a bunch of bombs first couple weeks and then other teams figures out he cant hit breaking stuff and that was the end of him.

not sure why any team would throw him a strike. He hit a bomb today and then got himself out 3 times swinging at s*** out of the zone. worked for me with the HR contest, but the book will be out now...

amazing that teams didn't still have the stats from last year.

What I dont understand is that if this is in fact the case; why aren't the other teams doing it already. Dont they have research from last year, hey this is that guy who cant hit a curve ball?

Supposedly he injured his hand last year after his hot start. From MLBTR about a week ago:

Outfielder/first baseman Chris Colabello is healthy this season after quietly suffering through nerve damage in his right thumb following his hot start last season with Minnesota, writes Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com. However, Colabello was battling for playing time after having clawed his way to the Majors from independent ball and didn’t feel a stint on the DL was something he could afford. Medical tests after the season revealed that there was no tear, and a hand specialist told Colabello that some rest would allow the issue to heal, which the 31-year-old said is indeed the case.

From what I've seen from him, he has taken so many terrible swings but he's also had a pretty good approach at laying off of junk pitches.

and his bat speed is pretty bad.

So he has the bat speed of Arencibia and the ugly swing of Pillar. He has the patience of a Devon Travis (April version)

But of course, the big deal for me is that he has the defense that makes Melky a Gold Glover.

Anyone know if we can send him down without exposing to waivers?
