GNick49 Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 That's what I want. Build for 2017. Hoff, Stro, Osuna, Norris, Travis, Pompey, Donaldson and those elite prospects. We been rebuilding for 20 years
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 But your talking like the pitching has underachieved. We are projected to have the 3rd worst WAR for SP. There will be improvement, just not that much. WAR always underrates Dickey and Buehrle so they aren't that bad. Also if the team is in it by June/July they should acquire a SP.
flafson Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Can't believe that we managed to lose...
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Average-ish rotation + best offense in baseball + decent D = playoffs. In the AL East, that's a fair recipe. We know the Yanks won't sustain their recent success.. and the rest of the East is a clusterf***..
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 We been rebuilding for 20 years True. Rebuilding sucks. It would be preferable if they don't rebuild and instead instantly magically have a dynasty.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Sanchez + for Hamels is the dream though, right?
magits Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 True. Rebuilding sucks. It would be preferable if they don't rebuild and instead instantly magically have a dynasty. Jenkins to starting rotation, hutch to bullpen?
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 jenkins to starting rotation, hutch to bullpen? diaf

Uhhh.. you do realize we were in the middle of the long dynasty of the New York Yankees when they had their core, right? Between 1994-2008, it was usually the Yankees (and sometimes the Red Sox) every year out of the East. And we would've had a playoff appearance in 1998 had the current wild card system been in effect.
magits Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 wat IMO Hutch to A ball...Where's Mel Queen at these days?
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Hopefully this is the year that Chad Jenkins finds his way out of the organization...
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Jays are tied for 3rd with 13 DRS on the season. Could you imagine how many runs the Jays would give up if their defense was average?
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Jays are tied for 3rd with 13 DRS on the season. Could you imagine how many runs the Jays would give up if their defense was average? Hard to imagine but probably something like 13 more runs so far IMHO
nowayjose Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Probably should stay the course, but man if we pick up a some really good prospects by dealing ee and bautista, 2017 would be exciting.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Hard to imagine but probably something like 13 more runs so far IMHO Yeah it was more of a rhetorical question lol. I wonder if there are numbers out there on shift efficiency. Jays seemed to give up a lot of hits this series because of it.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Nice to see AA try and not ruin Castro's confidence. Let him dominate in AA or high A
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I was getting upset BC AA didn't get bullpen help. Lol the bullpen is not half the problem.the rotation is.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Well lets hope Delabar has found his 2013 form. Castor was not ready, hardly shocking considering he never pitched past a-ball.
Praxis Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 So we started with Castro and Osuna in the bullpen, Sanchez and Norris in the rotation and Pompey, Pillar and Travis in the OF. 3 are gone, 2 are likely on the way out and only Pillar and Travis look major league ready at the moment. Remember, we were told this was a good idea in April. What a shambles.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Average-ish rotation + best offense in baseball + decent D = playoffs. You're forgetting the bullpen.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 You're forgetting the bullpen. s***, I did. Change the = to last place then.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 s***, I did. Change the = to last place then. Right, only -1 WAR to the average team or whatever you guys think. But honestly their pen is really garbage, and everyone knew this. It's not too hard to add some respectable guys but instead they went with two 20 year olds out of the gate, embarrassing in my opinion.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Big blow for Castro' confidence. I known Miguel, and I could tell you that he's crying right now. AA is horrible

I agree that putting Osuna and Castro on the team was embarrassing, and reeked of desperation. I wanted them to sign a couple of guys like Jason Grilli all f***ing offseason, lol... The pen is actually 8th in MLB in K/9, 16th in BB/9, 10th in xFIP, and 20th and 19th in ERA and WAR (before today). Not good but I don't really think it's garbage. Cecil and Loup are good relievers. Hendriks looks like a guy. Osuna looks like a guy (some might say unfortunately, if it means he's stuck as an RP forever). Pen isn't the big problem.

You make good points but I would say the pen is still a weakness right now and could have easily been patched up if they had a bit of cash. Like you're saying clearly the rotation is really bad right now, Norris isn't ready and Hutch is the same inconsistent (maybe worse?) pitcher that he was last year. Sanchez has a 1.05 K/BB FFS and some people think he's been pitching well. How the hell do the Jays have 3 premier sluggers on affordable contracts and still have a hard time competing? Small sample but all signs point to it being another mediocre year IMO.

In fact it might be downright decent if it wasn't so overworked.
bill Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Bautista and Reyes to the Yankees. They might be the one team willing to take Reyes given how bad Didi has been. Any team will make the Jays take most of Reyes contract in a trade I bet
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
