BTS I was asked a question yesterday, and I want to ask my fellow Rays'r the same question. Would you be satisfied with the Rays season if they missed the playoffs...but dominated the Jays so badly that it cost the Jays from making the playoffs? My answer was yes that would be a satisfying season for me. I'll enjoy the playoffs whether the Rays are there or not. Why are you a super mod if you want the jays to fail?.....why not hate on Jays on the Rays site... or am i missing something here...............
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 lol this thread. I'm curious if part of the reason Castro is in the MLB right now as opposed to starting in AA or wherever is his elbow concerns. I know some teams never thought he could throw more then 2 innings so if the Jays thought he could never start if that's part of the reason he's in the MLB right now. If you think he's a long term starting option you don't call him up before the season to the bullpen when he's barely had a cup of coffee above low A ball (where he posted above average but nothing special numbers).
Statman Verified Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 So I am not the only one that thought Saunders looked horrible defensively.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 And if Travis was slumping right now he'd be a wildebeest in your eyes. Its all about who's hot with you guys. Get it? Now I'm really done. Good night all. Your posts in this thread are embarassing, you are creating a strawman and narrative that does not exist.... No one will say travis is not ready when he slumps, everyone slumps during a season. There is a clear difference between being MLB ready and someone who needs more time to hone their skills. CAstro needs more time in the minors, travis clearly does not. Castor has never pitched past A ball.

Thing is Osuna was also called up and he already had his elbow repaired. Who knows really. Both Gibbons and AA compared him to Betances except they forgot to mention that Betances pitched at each minor league level as a SP and was 26 last year.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Gibbons on Castro: Let’s be fair to the kid, he’s been pretty damn good
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 AA on why Pillar in CF: The big thing is Pillar has just been so good," said GM Alex Anthopoulos. "(Mark) Buehrle joked that we should give him the Gold Glove right now and Pillar has always been a good defender but watching him night in and night out, if you have someone that gifted defensively, centre is the ideal spot for him. It’s a way as much to maximize Pillar’s defensive value more than anything else. We knew he was good defensively but he’s playing unbelievably right now. For me from what we’ve seen, he’s one of the best defensive outfielders in the game right now. Could they be trying to showcase him in CF to use him as trade bait? Or, like I speculated yesterday, are they planning on taking playing time away from Pompey to give it to Pillar?
jays76 Verified Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 AA has 10-15M to spend and assets to work with, in the off season all the experts and pretty much the entire world identified that our bullpen needed to be addressed. You'd have to think there's a contingency plan there somewhere and this was just a short term experiment. If the pen keeps imploding you'd have to believe double A will put out the fire sooner than later..

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 You had to, what a painful trip down memory lane. Learn from the past so you don't repeat it. At the time, AA was trying to find bullpen pieces so it's not unlike the present. He also traded Thames for Delabar, which worked out fine for the team. There are guys in the minors that could help this team out of the pen; Delabar, Schultz, West and Hynes.

Literally every time people have speculated that AA is "showcasing" someone because of an otherwise dumb decision, it turns out it's just a dumb decision.

It's more me hoping than anything else as I was commenting yesterday that the team might want to look to trade Pillar if/when DSJ is promoted to Buffalo. Saunders should've been in LF and Pillar in RF yesterday. Just another dumb move..

I'm positive AA wants to hold onto his deniero for the trade deadline, I just hope we don't burned too much before then. Castro's clearly lacking the pedigree & experience for*the closer*role, Cecil's confidence has been undermined and you're pretty holding your breath with everyone not named Osuna these days.

As a Jays fan who has long given up on this FO, I have to say that losing to the Rays has become somewhat satisfying. I even had some money on the Jays last night but still didn't mind seeing the Rays expose this team for the pretenders that they are. The last thing I personally want is to see is this team barely sneaking into the playoffs and then making a quick exit which would probably lead to the chubby Greek sticking around for another 5 years...

Saunders should've been in LF and Pillar in RF yesterday. Just another dumb move.. I like DSJ quite a bit and I don't like to take defensive reviews too seriously but if he's not a positive CF defensive contributor, than he profiles much more as a 4th OF. He is a contact guy and the Jays are slowly (very slowly) going in the direction where they take seriously. However he's a Ground Ball hitter. Singles, doubles guy. Most of the guys that fit into the similar profile and have been successful (Nori Aoki, Adam Eaton) are big line drive hitters, DSJ hasn't shown too much history as a big line drive guy. The contact rates are great but alone it's not enough (Andrelton Simmons comes to mind). I think DSJ has to develop more power to be given a proper chance to be an everyday guy.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Why? wasn't he acquired to be the lf? Plus, I think Pompey should be in CF really don't get why he's not there.
