glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 With Hendriks turning into a good reliever, what are the chances of Castro being sent down when Sanchez is finally taken out of the rotation? Osuna can probably stay at this point since his innings limit is likely 100 at best this season, but Castro could use the demotion. He's not ready.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 So Valencia's LHP splits the real deal or not yet? Pretty sure that one thing the forum has unanimously agreed on is that Valencia is probably a pretty good hitter vs. LHP.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Pretty sure that one thing the forum has unanimously agreed on is that Valencia is probably a pretty good hitter vs. LHP. Good 'cause he just seems to hit one rocket after the other against them.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 You won't stand up even if an exciting play happens? not really.... only if the guy in front of me does and I cant see from my seat. I don't jump ump on fly balls. I'll clap now and then, but I dont chant, wave or wander around the park. only time I left my seat last time was because my daughter wanted her picture taken with ace and that was when I was already up for the 7th inning stretch. I'm the same at hockey and football games. I dont really like people... especially when there is lots of them. I'm at the game in time for BP and I wait until everyone leaves after the game too before I make my way out. it only takes 15-20 minutes for everyone to push each other out after the game. I'd rather sit and wait instead of being one of the cattle fighting to get out.

Depends how badly AA and Gibbons want to save face after anointing him an MLB high leverage reliever and burning an option year for no reason. The entire Castro situation is so f***ing weird. He gets gifted a roster spot without other options being given a real chance, and then gets gifted the closer's spot after Cecil has one bad game.

I just wonder how many PA he can get. With TOR lineup vs LHP, every team is going to sit/pushback a LH starter if they can. Not likely going to face many LH relievers either.

Loup and Cecil have given up a s*** load already. only Redmond has been worse, but our rookie's innings will be gone in june and we will be f***ed. AA and Gibbons are pulling rabbits out of their ass at this point. AA spent all his money on Martin and didn't address the pen at all. I'm pretty sure that every team wanted at least one of our studs to do a deal and we don't attract the best FA because the team wont let it's 5 year policy slide.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Are you saying he should've spent all his money on relievers? not at all. I'm pretty sure he thought he could unload Navarro for a pen arm. I dont think he'd end up where he is and Stroman going down kind of forced his hand when he had no money left. If stroman doesn't get hurt Sanchez is in the pen Redmond doesn't make the team and Castro is in AA. add the arm he thought he would be able to get for Navarro and here we are.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Interesting. Russ Martin has been the 4th worst framer in MLB so far.

I think even AA and Gibbons know that he's not doing very well so far. Not striking guys out, FIP of 4.86 before the game, but maybe they are looking at his ERA and think everything is fine. If he keeps pitching poorly, then it has to be only a matter of time, especially if Sanchez moves to the pen. Osuna is at least holding his own. Castro doesn't look ready at all.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Interesting. Russ Martin has been the 4th worst framer in MLB so far. The idiots running this team have him catching Dickey. That might be one reason, though I haven't looked up the stats.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 The idiots running this team have him catching Dickey. That might be one reason, though I haven't looked up the stats. he's catching Dickey because Navarro is s***, but has to be window dressed to hopefully have some other team have 2 catchers die in a terrible accident. I'm pretty sure that AA would love to trade away Navarro just for salary relief at this point. Thole had an option or else he'd probably still be Dickey's monkey. edit: Not sure how bad Navarro has to be or how much Martin has to struggle before AA would just let Navarro walk to bring back Thole.... hard to say. It might be hurting the team having Martin spending too much time learning how to catch Dickey and be learning the entire pitching staff at the same time.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I'm pretty sure most posters here were all for Martin catching R.A.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 what are his numbers like if you take Dickey out of the equation? just curious and no I dont know. I was thinking that was a big part of it but not sure how to find that. I would think even without Dickey though he's been mostly average.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Tough start for RA and first BS for our closer but a nice gut check win for the boys. Pompey legging out that IH was huge. Uber concerned about our pitching but our offense should be fine. Nice job.

Forgot to post the below regarding whether or not the team has money left: Davidi: Jays on track for in-season payroll flexibility.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I'm pretty sure most posters here were all for Martin catching R.A. For sure, but it's not going so well. I'm sure he'll get better with time, but is it going to take him too much extra time to settle in with the whole staff because of it? At this point taking Dickey off his plate and having Thole do it might not be wrong. might need to make adjustments from the original plan.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Gotta move Navarro first though. yeah... was hoping he would get moved when Gomes went down.
Statman Verified Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 what are his numbers like if you take Dickey out of the equation? just curious and no I dont know. Even the games he isn't catching Dickey his framing hasn't looked good IMO especially down in the strike zone.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Even the games he isn't catching Dickey his framing hasn't looked good IMO especially down in the strike zone. He's learning every pitcher. it's not easy when he has to learn the break on every guys pitches. It will take him months to learn. He's never caught any of them before. You can see it's there. His hands are very relaxed and the movement is slight, but if you are like that and you are not used to tracking a guys stuff you can look really s*****. Framing is about having your glove in the right place before the ball gets close to the plate so that the movement is nominal and the ump gets a solid look without the glove making much last second adjustments. hard to do if you're not SURE where it's gonna end up. He'll learn which guys slider breaks 3" and which guys slider breaks 6" with time.... assess him after the all star break.
Statman Verified Member Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 This is what I would like to see from Martin with the low pitch. BTW I think the catcher is Cervelli. http://i.minus.com/iryNrNlfrTGZV.gif

Even Navarro. AA likely was praying he would get off to a productive start and then try to use him for pen help in a deal. He is a frustrating hitter to watch too often. argh.

BTW I think the catcher is Cervelli. http://i.minus.com/iryNrNlfrTGZV.gif The pitch ends up 6 inches lower than the glove started? most of the people on the board could catch that. show me a guy catching a ball that ends up 8 inches to the right and have it bounce and be caught for a strike, that would be impressive. lol
