They would have to send Castro or Osuna to the minors before they could start, Spot starts will go to Estrada and Hendricks.

Are they even keeping Hendriks at this point? If Drabek got snatched up, then I can't see how Hendriks will pass.

Hendricks doesn't have that former top prospect appeal, But if exposed he very well could be claimed. If he is claimed the spot starts will just go to Estrada, Just makes not having Osuna for depth more ridiculous.

No I don't think they will at all. I don't understand why people here have a boner for him hes not someone you want pitching a lot of innings for your big league team. With Estrada and Redmond already as your long men or multi inning relievers hard to picture us needing a third one. Gibbons has stated he wants 3 lefties. So thats Cecil, Loup, and Hynes. With Castro and Osuna also in the pen he doesn't fit.

I think some are wanting to keep Hendriks because after Estrada, he's pretty much the next best SP option on the depth chart. That's more telling of how poor the depth is than how good he is, but still. I'd rather Hendriks start than Randy Wolf.

Sanchez and Norris have no innings limit as far as I know. They both pitched between 130-140 innings last year and I have read the Jays have said no limit.

Sanchez had 100 and a third...Norris 125

Drabek is a great example of why starting the clock on Castro and Osuna is dangerous. If they are sent down and still have stuff to work on...they will be 24 and 23 when you have to make your "keep em up, or dump em" decision.

Really ridiculous. You guys have gotten way put of hand.

I don't think the argument is that Drabek is better than Castro/Osuna, its that:

a) the difference between them is probably negligible (maybe half a win over 60 innings)

B) said difference does not warrant burning up a year of control for either of these pitchers, particularly when neither have ever pitched above A ball

They are not going to burn a year of control.

Drabek is garbage. He was like Arencibia type bad but as a pitcher and had the mindset of Ricky Romero.

I'm not necessarily disputing what you're saying here, but this is really, really funny analysis from someone with the username "Statman"

Career: -0.3WAR, 5.80BB/9, 4.92xFIP

He actually might be worse than Arencibia at their respective positions. That's what is funny about all this. This guy was an ultimate bust.

Even if he gets it together physically, there seems to be something just not right upstairs with the guy IMO like Romero.

I hope Romero can make his way back to the Jays, he was one of the really likable guys on those 2011-2012 teams that was filled with douche bags

Drabek had some wicked stuff but 2 TJs too much to overcome coupled with his seemingly endless command issues. After 2nd TJ I never thought he would amount to much more than a RHP mop up long man. Now he will do that for the Chisox. Too bad. This is a tough game.

Well this sucks, I thought it wouldn't have hurt to give him a shot in the relief role...

AA is under pressure to succeed this year, he doesn't have time to wait. If you were him, you'd also bet on Castro/Osuna over Drabek.

I want the Jays to win this year, too. I get the service time debate, but this is a pretty solid team. I'd rather those young kids come in and blow people away than keep Drabek simply because he is out of options.

But, having said that, I'd *almost* prefer to promote Delabar and trade for Papelbon (with 80% of his salary paid by the Phillies) to keep Osuna and Castro in the minors for a while.

Being a GM is a tough job.

Papelbon minus salary

Cecil

Loup

Hynes

Delabar

Redmond

Hendriks

Estrada at some point

West

Guilmet

Sanchez again?

That's actually a very good pen with depth. Plus it keeps Cecil's salary down.

I have never been a bid Drabek fan. His makeup issue were know and his MiLB résumé was weak with 2009 being his only good season. I've called him a ******** prospect several times. I really feel like the "Drabek" created helium around him that he didn't earn. I was way more excited about getting Brett Wallace than Drabek though it turns out Wallace had his own very different reasons for not being the real deal (fortunately AA had the wisdom to cash that chip at the right time).

There was a brief period when Drabek pitched with the Jays where he seemed to be "battling" out there and I got optimistic that he was over his makeup issues and could make something of himself but in hindsight that was very naive. The walks and the babip gods caught up to him and then the second TJ finished him off. I'm relieved AA didn't try to save face here. It's a shame that the team saw something in him in the first place but that s*** happens.

That's a very good 'pen.

AA has done a good job forming this bullpen on a shoestring. Actually, he's done a great job. It's hard to fault him for anything he's done this off season. IMO.

Offseason was great. Now the asset management failures have started.

You know AA put drabek through waivers so he could find another job before spring training is over?

I didn't compare the two players, just pointed out Smoak has negative WAR for his career. I would have no qualms with releasing Smoak though. I wonder why everybody thinks he's a defensive specialist when he seems to just not be as much of a butcher as EE, Not like he will provide positive value from defense, He just won't bleed value as fast as EE.

Sportsnet has been touting his defense pretty strongly, Buck, etc.

Wasn't talking about Drabek

Man, too bad it did not work out. What do we have left from the Halladay trade now?

Dickey (with other pieces added) and Travis.

So the three scenarios here for Osuna and Castro.

Unsuccessful. have to go back down to the minors and their first option gets burned.

Successful in the pen. Stay up all year. Jays make playoffs no one cares they weren't the reason and it looks like the best move ever.

Successful in the pen. Jays don't make playoffs. Jays have to make a decision next year whether to stretch them out again.

Sadly the first scenario is probably the second best option for the F.O. even if it does burn an option. There are actually about a hundred other scenarios but my mind only allows me to think in simplistic ways.

True, however because Osuna and Castro have options, I don't think it would have hurt us too much. Especially if Drabek actually preformed. If he's s*** by the 3rd week of Baseball then drop him by then

I really don't feel like Drabek was ever in competition with Osuna and Castro. Drabek could have been the extra lefty in the pen and Colt Hynes has flat out beat him for that job.
