Governator Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I'm new so don't know how to post tweets but Ken Rosenthal reporting torn labrum on twitter. Edit: I don't see the tweet in his timeline... /s Omg say it ain't so. Isn't a torn labrum about the worst injury a pitcher could get? Unless your name Schilling.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Give Norris the 5th spot, Estrada to close, Sanchez/Loup/Lopez as the set up guys, problem solved.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Give Norris the 5th spot, Estrada to close, Sanchez/Loup/Lopez as the set up guys, problem solved. CloZer is an overrated spot. We need good arms in the bullpen, and Cecil is one of them.
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Give Norris the 5th spot, Estrada to close, Sanchez/Loup/Lopez as the set up guys, problem solved. If Cecil is actually out and they don't bring in help than closer by committee is the only logical option.

Well Estrada was pretty lights out as a reliever last year, I'd probably use him as the closer or in the most high leverage situations. Mostly just pointing out that losing our best relief pitcher has nothing to do with our front office being incompetent.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Barry Davis Cecil had a precautionary MRI which showed the inflammation. His status could have a huge impact on where Sanchez winds up. #Bluejays

Governator Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 How do you post tweets on here?

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I'm new so don't know how to post tweets but Ken Rosenthal reporting torn labrum on twitter. There is literally nothing about Cecil on Rosenthal's twitter. I assume this is an attempt at a joke, but like... Maybe you should leave that to the professionals...
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 He also lead the majors in home runs allowed... 2 Homers in 44 innings as a reliever is pretty solid
jays76 Verified Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 2 Homers in 44 innings as a reliever is pretty solid That's exactly why he needs to stay a reliever, same probably goes for Sanchez with his control issues.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 That's exactly why he needs to stay a reliever, same probably goes for Sanchez with his control issues. I agree. Small sample size and all but the numbers were encouraging. Kept the ball inside the park, K/BB ratio close to 4, opponent wOBA .269, 610 OPS
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I'm gonna go on the record and say that the pen won't be the big issue this season. In 2013 we were suppose to have one of the best rotations in baseball...how did that work out? Last year, the pen was suppose to be our biggest strength based on how well they did in 2013...and they were awful. The pen will be fine this year. Some of these lesser names will be surprisingly effective...I trust Gibby's ability to manage a pen and I think he'll get good results from the cast that he's dealt. Let's wait and see on Cecil before we plan his funeral. Pretty much true. Especially the part about last year. It's just the way bullpens are and I'm very glad AA didn't spend money on it this off season even though some here fully expected him to spend most of his available budget on it. I also hope they use Sanchez as SP depth instead of out of the BP. We'll see what happens.

The idea that the bullpen is a coin flip regardless of what players they have is silly. Small sample size doesn't mean outcomes are completely random.

Gorlak Verified Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Let's talk again in October. My point is more that perceived strengths for this team the past 2 seasons haven't turned out to be strengths. The rotation was a big concern going into 2014 and it worked out much better than expected. It's not like the jays don't have talented arms with upside. Some are unproven, have been inconsistent... But there are good arms there... So a couple of breakthrough performance wouldn't be that big of a surprise... Especially if they are used in the right situations... The rotation performs and the pen isn't taxed early and often. There are lots of variables that go into this whole thing... And I just don't think it's going to be nearly as bad as most. I would take the other side of that bet. The biggest variable is the quality of the players and at this point Jays just have a bunch of warm bodies. My guess though is AA knows this and plans on bringing up his best pitching prospects, Castro first followed by Osuna. I just think people overreacted to the bullpen falling apart last season and now think bullpens are too fluky to worry about, I think that's a fallacy.

Gorlak Verified Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 It would've been nice if they spent money on a 4 spot. With Sanchez, Norris, and Hoffman, adding a mid rotation starter would have been at best a waste of money and at worst block a better, cheaper pitcher.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 With Sanchez, Norris, and Hoffman, adding a mid rotation starter would have been at best a waste of money and at worst block a better, cheaper pitcher. 4 spot= 2nd base.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 BP arms are volatile, period. Oversimplification is not great analyses.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 4 spot= 2nd base. In that case I agree, but that would have cost talent, not money.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 In that case I agree, but that would have cost talent, not money. Not really.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 4 spot= 2nd base. I think Devon Travis was their 2B move. Had they focused their efforts towards a 2B, they may not have gotten Donaldson.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Not really. Who would you have signed? All options in free agency had big question marks.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Who would you have signed? All options in free agency had big question marks. C'mon man...any one of them as a stop gap, coming to Toronto would only add their value.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 C'mon man...any one of them as a stop gap, coming to Toronto would only add their value. None of them were noticeably better than internal options, surely not 5 mil better.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I think Devon Travis was their 2B move. Had they focused their efforts towards a 2B, they may not have gotten Donaldson. Agree and it was a good move, Hopefully he climbs quickly.
