Uhh...

K/9: 13.43 BABIP: .288 GB%: 44.2 % ERA: 3.08 FIP: 2.68 XFIP: 2.13

K/9: 12.83 BABIP: .344 GB%: 53.8 % ERA: 2.70 FIP: 2.34 XFIP: 2.51

Without saves, tell me which one of those is Brett Cecil and which one is David Robertson from last year.

Well, saves is what a closer is about?

I thought about responding to that. Then I thought, "Nah, Nox can do better."

I was right

Indians Sign Jhoulys Chacin, Designate Shaun Marcum

By Jeff Todd [April 14, 2015 at 12:21pm CDT]

The Indians have announced a series of transactions, including the signing of righty Jhoulys Chacin to a minor league deal. Fellow right-hander Shaun Marcum was designated for assignment, while backstop Brett Hayes will take his roster spot.

Chacin, 27, was cut loose by the Rockies this spring in something of a surprise move. He struggled with shoulder issues last year, and injuries are the main concern given his effectiveness when healthy. Overall, Chacin owns a 3.78 ERA with 6.9 K/9 against 3.8 BB/9 to go with a 48.2% groundball rate. He joins Ryan Webb as a recently-added veteran depth piece in the Cleveland system.

Of course, much of the same could have been said of Marcum, 33, who was quite a productive starter in his heyday but who has battled injuries in recent campaigns. He made one appearance for the Indians, allowing just one earned run in five innings of relief, but will presumably be left to look for a new opportunity.

As for Hayes, he is needed to fill in for the injured Yan Gomes. The veteran backup has never done much damage on offense but will provide a steady presence in reserve while Gomes is down. It remains to be seen how long his services will be needed at the big league level, as Cleveland is said to be weighing the possibility of making an addition to its catching corps.

I don't really get these moves.

Agreed, meat.

I know Marcum was considered a bad apple but I still heart him. I mean if I was a ball player, I'm not so sure I wouldn't be getting drunk and partying too.

Apparently, those days are past him, I'd take a shot.

P.S. The Marcum love is strong in this one...:P

Yeah whatever, he was young. Not everyone is a robot like Roy Halladay. Most of us are more like Marcum.

Yeah but wasn't Marcum on a MiLB contract too?

Yes, but they called him up, he's now been DFA'd...should hit the wire in a couple days or traded.

Just saying they could have just demoted him for Hayes. They didn't need to swap him out with Chacin.

The swap was Hayes, they purchased Hayes contract and DFA'd Marcum to make room on the roster...Chacin was a seperate move to an Milb contract. Marcum had to be designated.

Oh so Chacin isn't even on the 40 yet. So they basically replaced Marcum with a similar pitcher while also liberating his roster spot for Hayes who presumably is more of a natural reliever. I guess I do get it then. This is just like the kind of roster churning AA has done in the past with fringy pitchers.

Exactly, except Hayes is a catcher, they're paper thin at the position now...possible Navarro destination?

Right. I wondered about that. Gomes is injured so they could probably use a guy and they have some pitching depth. Seems like a fit if the financials can be worked out.
