Laika Community Moderator Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Yes but something had to cause his organs to fail It's been confirmed that organ failure is what caused his organs to fail. No but seriously, no information yet. Rumour is drugs but you know what to do with rumours.

I'm sure coke is pretty big problem in MLB like it is the other Major sportss so it will be interesting to see what MLB does about it. Bad day for MLB in the PR department.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Did the MLB come up with a protocol for domestic abuse cases? Like what if no charges are laid on Reyes? (for many reasons seems to happen a lot) Would they still have the authority to suspend him 50? 100? games
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 f***ing hell Reyes, eat s***. The sad thing is there are probably players in MLB right now who have done worse but it just never got reported.

I want to see guys punished if guilty, but at the same time it seems wrong for the league so supersede the law if someone hasn't committed a crime. I don't like the grey area, just have a set suspension for a certain crime.

Yeah I found the policy. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/examining-mlbs-new-domestic-violence-policy/ I don't think you should trust the court tbh. We have seen athletes not get charged even if they are guilty. Look at Greg Hardy, Ben Roethlisberger, Kobe Bryant etc... I honestly don't mind the grey are in this set of circumstances since sexual assault and domestic violence are two of the worst crimes you can commit and shouldn't have a fixed punishment. Although I see what you are saying where a player will get suspended based on how good of a player he is. Like theoretically if Mike trout or Josh Donaldson were the one to commit this crime would they receive the same punishment as Jose Reyes? Wonder if the Rockies can void his contract if he does or doesn't get convicted.

I don't exactly trust the courts and you're certainly right that players get away with things all of the time because they are rich. My thoughts swing back and forth between 'let's suspend these f***ers forever' and 'it isn't the place of sports leagues take the law into their own hands', but people in the latter category inevitably get chastised not caring about women, when that's not usually the case. You're absolutely right about the caliber of the player affecting the punishment as well. Anyone who trusts this commissioner to make correct decisions after the shitshow that was the 2015 postseason is extremely naive. Of course Mike Trout would get a lesser suspension and that throws the whole system into question and degrades the moral underpinnings of the policy in my opinion. Kind of like saying, hey woman X, the heinous act committed against you isn't as bad because this player is really good.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I wonder if Reyes is still smiling?
