Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) I think Murphy may surprise you, if that's what you think he is. He's a good defender and framer so there's some underlying value there but his bat is bad. Looks like a fine backup, but to give an everyday player with a lot of control, is a big overpay. blurnandez Verified Member Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Reds and DBacks have discussed swapping Hill for Phillips http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/brandon-phillips-aaron-hill-trade.html That's funny...weren't there Hill for Phillips rumors back in the day when Aaron was with the Jays? Unless I'm imagining that.

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Puig for Simmons I guess. That would seem like such a Dodger trade.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 That would seem like such a Dodger trade. Idk I might actually take Puig
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Dodgers are going to trade Puig one way or another. Apparently he is a cancer to the team in the clubhouse. Even the Ultra analytic Dodgers don't want to have him.

Even the Ultra analytic Dodgers don't want to have him. Well, no. His batted ball stats have never really been great and his last year might be closer to his true talent if you believe in that stuff. Always was BABIPy. That's another reason they might try and move Seager. The cancer thing is a very helpful narrative though.

FG writes have said for the last 2 months he will be traded and that it has to do with his makeup more than anything.

He's probably not as good as most people think he is.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 It's clearly the player + injury concerns. He's probably not as good as most people think he is. Sounds like the number 1 reason is character to me. His injury concerns killed his trade value but that is not why they want to trade him. http://nypost.com/2015/10/17/310m-dodgers-go-bust-whats-the-future-for-these-3-big-names/ The new heads of baseball ops did not trade Puig last offseason, They saw from a distance what they believed was immense, not fully tapped talent and did not want to potentially make a rash, regrettable deal based on what a previous administration thought about the outfielder. They wanted to see if a more unified, behind-the-scenes approach to handling Puig’s behavioral issues could bring the best out of him as a player and teammate. Even on better behavior in 2015, Puig often remained outside the Dodgers mainstream. The bigger problem is that he lost value, both to the Dodgers and within the industry. In an elimination game Thursday, Puig never even made it to the on-deck circle. He started one of five division series games. He dealt with injury this season and finished with 11 homers and a .758 OPS. He is signed reasonably from 2016-18 for $19.5 million, so teams will have interest. But what can be expected in return has shriveled. Beyond attitude concerns, other teams also see what worries the Dodgers — that Puig is thickening, which is not only a potential catalyst for further injury, but could slowly erode the quick-twitch explosiveness in his bat and running that made Puig seem such a star in the making just 12-to-24 months ago. Mattingly’s dismissive answers about Puig strongly hinted at what he thinks about the outfielder. The Dodgers probably would love to move Puig, Carl Crawford (two years left at $41.75 million) and Andre Ethier (two years at $38 million). First of all, good luck, but also teamed with the removal of Kemp, it would mean this front office had rid itself of all the salaried outfielders it inherited and, among other things, would now need to reconstruct a new outfield for 2016, as well.

It doesn't help, sure, but Puig's batted ball numbers have been mediocre for a long time. I've been kinda nervous about him since he came up and still am. Projected for 135 wRC+. I'll take the under.
