Ever since he was mentioned as a possible trade chip this past year I always thought AA would target him.

Tsuyoshi Wada back to Japan. I always thought he could have been a good back-end starter but he never really caught a break.

I thought so too. He's probably better than Marco Estrada who looks likely to sign a multi year deal.

Dusty Baker- 2016 MOY candidate

That rotation better purchase some insurance.. Dusty Baker ruins arms by leaving them out for way too long, as Kerry Wood and Mark Prior can tell you..

Very good article about the Royals' FO. It calls it one of the best in the game and suggests that if the Rays or A's had built their teams similarly the nerds would have been a lot quicker to praise them.

The Royals outscored there opposition 51-11 from the 7th inning on and had 8 come from behind victories, that's impressive.

Thanks for the link... I'll check it out.

sure... if you don't mind your team sucking dead moose for 4-5 years, then use those draft pics to build on, that's great. Astros have done the same. Rays did it before them.

their pen is a big part of that. they have 5 guys who just don't give anything up most days. the pen is the best part of their team.

That was an excellent read and he taps into a couple things you've said in the past about their D in that park and flyball pitchers in that park, did you get that from the Dan Szymborski article in July. Thanks for the link.

Yes o2, everyone knows how elite their pen is, this article digs deeper than that.

I dont think anyone in their right mind isnt calling the Royals a top team, it's just annoying to hear Joe Buck and Co. to put them up on this pedestal when there were arguably 5 teams better than them this year.

If Ned Yost wasnt their manager and had a different pitching staff, I think they would be one of my favorite teams to watch.

I think a lot of people have probably underrated them a bit. Projections don't really handle defense or elite bullpens as well as we'd like them too, and pythag records wouldn't give them full credit for their pen. I would have said all year that there are probably 5 better teams, but I think I would have been wrong.

Ned Yost is dumb though.

I wouldn't mind seeing some advanced stats on the Royals in the playoffs, especially BABIP. At one point in the ALCS they had a BABIP of over .400 against the Jays on ground balls - I remember reading that but can't find it now.

Great bullpen and defense, but the lineup and rotation left something to be desired. Still, if you are good enough to make the playoffs anything can happen. Just need an uptick in production from your starters and then BABIP your way in to some offense and you can win the 11 games necessary.

Dayton Moore seems to be going down the same career path as Pirates GM Neil Huntington. People thought they were bad GMs for the first few years but they've learned to adapt and grow as GMs. One of the common traits between these 2 seem to be they listen a lot to the people around them when making a decision. I think that is the same type of process Shapiro wants to have in the FO and talked about in great length yesterday.

i was wondering about this, in the ALCS especially. Based on the basic stats:

http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/batting

BABIP for the entire postseason if my math is right:

Royals: .289

Mets: .262

Jays: .268

Cubs: .230

The surprising thing is during the regular season, Royals were .301 and the Jays were .298 - it sure didn't feel like it during the series. So this gives cred to the argument that it's a small sample size, etc

Them being already there once mattered. They made some great plays down the stretch and we did too

If Goins doesn't mess up game 2 we are maybe having the parade

I like the way they talk about trends. Will contact hitters values rise now? (I don't honestly think so). What I think did happen this year was trade deadline success. Over the years so many of the August 1st anointed trade deadline winners, floundered. This year the Jays and Royals were on top of almost everyone's list. The Mets were not, but mostly because of their epic failures prior to getting Cespedes. That was all forgotten when Cespedes played as well as he did.

White Sox declined the option of Alexei Ramirez.

He was a 3 war player last year.

Worth a shot as depth for sure

Rangers seem way too high. Also Red and Orioles should be the bottom 2 in my opinion.

And the Rays are headed for some very lean years ahead.. watch them draw Expos level attendance and trade Longoria away to meet payroll that will be slashed dramatically. And the Reds need a major rebuild. And Loria has f'd up the Marlins pretty bad..

Imo Jays have a better future than the Yanks (both are good). Dunno if I'd put the Sox that high. Rangers and Nats shouldn't be above Jays. Royals too low.

I'm considering management and not just players, though. Idk if they did
