thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Strasburg was ruined in college. Not only is he physically fragile he's emotionally fragile. As all former fat guys are. Syndergaard?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Syndergaard? He looks like the kid who would ask to play Yu-Gi-Oh during recess and get bullied

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Super Two statuses announced: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/10/list-of-2016-super-two-qualifiers.html Expect the Rays to deal one of their pitchers(Karns/Odorizzi/Ramirez/Smyly)--Erasmo Ramirez qualified for Super Two status, lessening the Rays financial flexibility for 2016 and beyond, as his salary will increase substantially . Chris Archer is already on a long-term deal, so that qualification means nothing, and Moore's already locked up.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Lenny Dykstra used to blackmail umpires I'm torn, on the one hand I think he's full of s*** enough to just make this up but on the other hand I think he's enough of a piece of s*** to have actually done this. He even pulls the douche-tastic "I had to do what I had to do to support my family" even after explaining that he could only do this once he had a lot of money.

Such a good person too

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 FFS Get something done dammit Keep an eye on the offseason... MLB isn't going to wait forever. Something is going to give, as Manfred isn't waiting another decade for this situation to be fixed.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Gibby is nothing if not well liked. And so he should be. He seems to be a genuine and authentic very nice person who is loyal to a fault. Very likeable. He sucks royally as a Mgr sometimes and cost us some games, but we could do a lot worse.
admin Site Manager Posted October 30, 2015 Author Posted October 30, 2015 Of course the players like Gibbons. Players like GIbbons because he's care free and doesn't give a s***. He lets them do what they want. It's like the teacher in school that was 'care free' and 'cool'. Were they the best teacher? Probably not.

I generally don't give a f*** about managers but if we can just trade Aaron Sanchez i would be totally fine with Gibby being back. Ned Yost is pretty dumb dumb but since he has such a talented team it works out fine.

He sucks royally as a Mgr sometimes and cost us some games, but we could do a lot worse. We've never had a good manager in 39 years if you had asked current fans about their tactical moves. People never seem to get it through their head that you can't manage a team with a computer program. There's all kinds of factors that your average fan doesn't even know about. I'm not saying he's a great manager or anything, but you're right about the fact that we could do a lot worse.

You're implying that Gibby's doesn't enforce any kind of standard. This has been shown to not be the case. He does expect a certain standard of respect and will enforce it (see Pillar). Just because he's a nice guy doesn't mean he's total slacker. The best teachers aren't necessarily hated either. That's a false dichotomy.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Never read the MLBTR comments: "Can definitely see Gallardo taking a 1 year deal to sign with a team like Seattle, San Diego or Oakland so he can hit next years market and be a top 3 SP – this market this offseason is too stacked and he’s a very good pitcher when he’s on, he still has a very true #2 ceiling or even an ace. IMO the only pitcher better than him in 2016 is Strasburg, and some folks might even prefer Gallardo and his superior health record. Over the last 7 years he’s given between 180-207 IP with a 3.77 FIP and he’s 30 in 2016. I’m not sure he can get $100M this offseason, but absolutely next one he could go huge if he plays his situation right."
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Strasburg is a FA next year? Woah. That happened quick.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Strasburg is a FA next year? Woah. That happened quick. I think that every time I see his name on next year's FA list. Doesn't seem like he's been around 6 years. Some team is going to seriously regret their decision in a few years I think.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 He Josh Johnson some team. A shame, dude had light outs stuff. Really is...and all the innings mgm didn't really make a difference. He was the Thor of his time entering league.

Remember the hype was pretty crazy. Recall some people, not specifically on this forum, having debates between Strasburg vs Kershaw. That debate came crashing down fast haha.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Stephen Strasburg was labeled "the greatest pitching prospect EVER" at the time he was drafted. The pithing game is so fickle.
