Boy it's a good thing we're winning because so is everybody else. Hard to gain ground like this. Grrrrrrr

The AL West laid a giant turd against the East this weekend. At least the Jays benefitted from it as well.

I've said before though, the amount of teams stuck in the same level of good/mediocre records is far too great to worry about standings right now. Eventually teams will sink or go on runs and separation will be created at that point. We just have to hope the Jays are the ones who go on a run.

I think the East and both Wild Card's are winnable this year. The Jays starting the season off so terribly will hurt them, but there's time to right the ship. Take care of your own s*** and let the standings fall where they may.

JoeyBats has started off June with a bang. Seems like he's hit a turning point since getting his shoulder injection...

AA should call up his buddy Beane and rip him off again ...

They are completely in the tank and have some great pieces that we need.

Upcoming free agents Scott Kazmir, Ben Zobrist, Tyler Clippard.

And then both Jesse Chavez and Josh Reddick are free agents after next year and could be moved if the A's commit to a rebuild.

Zorbist would be a really nice guy to have. Someone in the IF or OF is going to be hurt so he can play full time at either.

Yeah that would be a nice acquisition. Maybe a Boyd and Smoral for a Zobrist?

The guy is already 34 and is having a bad year, -0.7 WAR in 26 games, he's hitting wRC+ 85 and his defense is pretty bad right now. Is he really worth it?

Combine Zobrist with one of their starters and/or relievers, and I think it would be a good gamble to take. Just avoid giving up Norris or Hoffman.

He was just hurt, all his periphs look good. Seems like a lot of teams want him though so it's going to be pricey.

I was surprised to learn the Jays have only been intentionally walked 1 time this year.. I guess it makes sense that they are rarely ever leading a tight game late in a ball game to warrant it.

16 HR, .598 ops last year, wat

And he's not putting up decent numbers in AAA right now, making him an easy DFA. Likely replacing Dominguez in Fresno will be Johnathan Villar, who will likely be sent down because of his misplays, Correa's callup, and the Astros needing a starter for Wednesday (Vincent Velasquez).

So I didn't know that Billy Hamilton has been utter s*** this year and more like a 4th outfielder.

1.4 war but 56 wrc

1.4 WAR from less than a third of the season. Doesn't seem like a 4th outfielder to me.

That's largely generated from his defense/base running, and I just find it very difficult to picture a player having that good of defense/base running to overcome the putrid offense of a 56 wrc player. Could be another case of weakness in WAR calcs.

I think it's pretty accurate. Look at Colabello, the eye test says his offense is barely making up for his defense... WAR agrees with that statement. But defensive stats, they say, are not reliable over short term so who knows.

Hamilton has stolen 23 of 27 bags... that in itself is a lot of value, not to mention range in the OF, going from 1st to 3rd, 2nd to home on singles, etc.

Interesting bit of news here. The players requested more protection for the fans in the last two rounds of collective bargaining and the teams refused.

I wouldn't necessarily take the players position at face value. This may merely be one of those demands that you make only with the intention of dropping it for a different better concession but it's kind of interesting that it came up at all.

I'd rather not have more netting, it upsets the view and you pay a lot of money in those seats to get it. It's worth it for the very rare injury that may or may not occur. I'd suggest looking at the brittleness of the bats instead, they shouldn't be breaking so easily.

Can Billy Hamilton stick?
