Josh Donaldson:

 

His batting average shrunk by nearly 50 points last year, but he hit 29 home runs and — offering more music to the ears of the advanced analytics community — Donaldson notes that fluctuations in batting average on balls in play are often out of a player’s control but can have a major impact on the numbers. “In 2013 I was pretty lucky. My ball in play average was .333. Last year I was pretty unlucky. My ball put in play average was .278. Does it mean I had that much worse of a season? No. All of my other advanced metrics say it was good.”

If anyone has the time do some research into homelessness and suicide rates for LGBT youths compared to straight youths. It's staggering and so disheartening. Good on the girlfriend.

Ya you could for sure. There is "Off" on FanGraphs which is this. To convert to wRC+ style you would go ((Off/PA)/LGRPA+1)*100

 

Assuming this means "League Run Per PA." Are you using the terms Off and Runs interchangeably here? Or are you dividing Off by the tangible Runs stat?

Fangraphs says wRC+ is "runs above average" as a percent, but BsR is actual runs above average... how can you add a percent plus an actual numeric value?

 

It's not wRC+ added with BsR on fangraphs. It's wRAA. wRAA is the BsR version of hitting. What that means is that it takes wOBA and puts it as runs above average. Like BsR does. So they're added together. Then you do what JFaS said.

 

Ah. But what is PA and LGRPA?

 

PA is plate appearances. LGRPA is League Runs Per Appearance, I assume.

This is helpful especially since you did the math. I'm afraid to ask, what if you only have wOBA and BsR? Any way to combine those?

 

You'd need to turn BsR into a rate stat, adjust wOBA for park and then add those and do the thing. The math thingamajig.

(wOBA-lgwOBA)/wOBAScale*PA

 

So for Bautista wRAA = (.402-.315)/1.304*673 = 44.9

The wRAA you see on his page uses lg average wOBA including pitchers (.310). This isn't used for wRC+ though.

 

Then park and league adjust then add BsR.

 

I took his question to mean "What if you can't find wRAA, and you can only add wOBA and BsR." Could be wrong.

I don't know about robots, but pretty sure there are rules against hiring a terminator.
