I'd rather watch Stro, Hutch, MB, Sanchez and others before Dickey.... other than that no comment about Dickey as a person

As someone who doesn't hold many reservations about my opinions towards people, and I can say pretty confidently that I really doubt Bautista is a douchebag. He comes off as very likeable and passionate about the game. He might look like a douche on the field, and I can even agree with that to a certain extent, but I don't think that's a representation of him as a guy. Everyone in the clubhouse and in the media seems to like him, and he seems to be closer to his fans than most athletes of his caliber are.

Good. He should be. They make ******** calls against him all the time. Yeah, they make ******** calls against everyone, but I can see why it's more infuriating for a guy that has elite plate discipline and deserves to get the counts that he's earned, and knows when he's been robbed.

I wonder if we'll ever see how much bad umpire calls/good catcher frames effect a guy's BB/K rates, and if there will ever be a way to adjust for it and give someone credit for being screwed with more than the average player. Sort of like reverse-framing for position players.

 

If a guy earned a walk, but wasn't awarded one because he was standing in front of an elite framer or a s*** umpire, it shouldn't be a mark against him, and it shouldn't reflect negatively in his plate discipline stats.

I liked the documentary Brunt did with him in the DR. Seems like a really humble guy.

I think Donaldson is more Lawrie than Martin from what I've heard. Work hard first, think later.

It should be Stroman of course. If they in fact let Martin catch the knuckler, then I think it'll signal that they're moving on from sucking up to what RAD thinks since he wants Thole to catch him which = Stroman getting the start.

That's a good point and I think it would make a lot of sense/please most people if they went:

 

Dickey

Stroman

Buehrle

Hutch

Then you still give Dickey the opening day start but giving Stroman the home opener shows a lot of confidence in him as well. It's a win-win situation IMO since you still break up the soft tossers.

Maybe if they signed Jaime Escudos he'd be the one, but I'd still go with Stroman.

The Jays need to give as many starts as they can to their best pitcher. Thus, Stroman should start the season opener. Followed by Dickey, Hutch, Buerhle and Estrada/Norris/Sanchez.

 

I really think you maximize Hutch by having him follow Dickey. With Martin behind the dish and pitching behind RA, he could have a big year.

There's an off day after the season opener though. Strategically, you must start Stroman first.

 

I don't remember them skipping #5 starters at the beginning of the season. Could be wrong though.

Not so sure Dickey is the obvious opener. Stroman really has a strong case both statistically (obv.), and from a marketing standpoint. Young, charismatic, handsome, mini-stud. What's not to like?
