randyc Verified Member Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I apologize if this has already been asked elsewhere on here but I couldn't seem to find anything when I searched the forum, anyways... I was wondering if they blackout the Blue Jays games on MLB.TV if you live in Canada? I live in BC and have been thinking about cancelling my cable services but still want to watch the Jays. Thanks for any help!
Sorrow Verified Member Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 In Ottawa, zero blackouts the last two years.

Thanks for any help! I don't think they'd black you out in BC, but even if there are blackout restrictions, you can probably watch it from anywhere using a VPN. We've also usually got links for streams on game days, so you can probably catch most games for free if you follow this forum. Lastly, if you're a Rogers customer (any of their services, even if you just have a cell phone with them) you can watch all the games for free on rogersondemand.com
randyc Verified Member Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 I figure since I have Hola and use it for watching American Netflix it should work the same if they did blackout the Jays game here out west.

TBJ12 Verified Member Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I think this board needs a MLB.TV sticky thread
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I don't know about "most" but for sure some. No, I'll have a stream for probably every single Jays game. I won't be using it, since I have Rogers on Demand, but anyone that needs it can request a link.

Hipfan Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I signed up for MLBtv for the first time this and had no blackout issues. I'm on Vancouver Island.

About halfway through last season (or was in the season before) it was changed so it had to be a television package.

About halfway through last season (or was in the season before) it was changed so it had to be a television package. Are you sure? I'd use my sister's account sometimes and it did s*** out every now and then, giving me a message that I needed to be subscribed to the Jays package or some s***, but if I cleared the cookies on that page and refreshed it a few times, it'd eventually work. Anyway, there's some great quality streams for Jays games now, so if anything, we'll figure something out once the season starts for the people who can't watch it otherwise.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I don't have Rogers anything, but my mother does. What do I need from her in order to stream games? Account Id or something?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I don't have Rogers anything, but my mother does. What do I need from her in order to stream games? Account Id or something? Yeah you gotta set up an account at rogersondemand.com and you'll need her account number.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 What device do you watch on? I heard they have the app for Xbox one, so I could try that..

Once your account is set up, you can probably watch it on any device that it's compatible with. I've only used the iPad app and the online stream.

I only have cell service with Rogers and had to pay $5 a month for the Rogers on demand app. This game me access on my cell phone only, the app could not be used with my PC or tablet. If you have a tablet with a sim slot you could watch on tablet. The app uses the sim card to verify your account, you must login with data package before switching to wifi when using the app. Last year Rogers had a promotion throughout most of the baseball season which included no overages on your data when using the Rogers on demand app. I believe it ran from May until September or something like that. I can't see them having the same promo this year so I'll likely just stick to MLB.TV

Just basing on my experiences... I didn't keep trying after the first few fails and just switched over to Charlie's stream, since his streams are awesome.
CanuckofChicago Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Hey Randyc. My experience was an odd one last year. We tried watching MLB.TV through my wife's desktop which is hooked to our TV, but it didn't work. However, I was able to watch it through my laptop - it connects via the wifi. On a side note, MLB.TV is really worth having, especially if you are a baseball junkie and enjoy watching more than one team.

TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I believe as part of Rogers' and the CRTC's contract for carriage of MLB Network in Canada, they were able to get the rest of Canada removed as being officially deemed Blue Jays local market, thus dropping blackouts in other Canadian cities.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I live in North York anyone know if i would be subject to back outs? If not, i would drop my cable package pretty fast.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I live in North York anyone know if i would be subject to back outs? If not, i would drop my cable package pretty fast. I've used it in North York and have never had issues. You should be fine and, as TwistedLogic suggests, if they do re-implement blackouts there are solutions to that. Plus, you can also watch 2268 Major League games that are surely blackout-free. It's a fantastic value proposition.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 To watch the Jays, I'm going to get my parents Rogers account number and just install the App on my iPad, then stream it to my TV. I dont know though, the app reviews on the Apple app store are pretty terrible for the Rogers on demand App. I'll give it a shot.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Is there any way to get it cheaper then the 129 bucks on the website?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Is there any way to get it cheaper then the 129 bucks on the website? Unfortunately not, but I know a ton of people who split it with friends and buddies. Sask was asking if someone wanted to split it on the previous page. Split it with 1 person and the price automatically drops to $65. Split it with two and you'll only be paying a bit more than $40 per person. I know more people that share MLB.TV than I do people who use it solo.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Can 3 people watch the same game at the same time, from different locations?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Can 3 people watch the same game at the same time, from different locations? I think the MLB.TV webpage tells you that it isn't possible, but this is probably just to scare people away from using it. It's not uncommon for five different people to be using the same MLB.TV account, and based one everything I've read, people have never had trouble watching the same games from different IP's. Check out this thread, or just google it for more opinions: Comment of note: http://i.gyazo.com/5d6bf736563cafa768bdc8767107d8ae.png You'll find plenty more people saying the same thing, that they've never had trouble sharing it with multiple people.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 In that case I am open to sharing it with someone if anyone is interested.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Me too, maybe we can split it 4 ways
S33n Verified Member Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 DId anybody else have their MLB.tv account automatically renewed without being contacted or asked? I just received an E-Mail from service@intl.paypal.com saying a transfer has been made for 109.99 USD to MLB Advanced Media L.P. Not that big of a deal, I was probably going to purchase anyhow, just wondering if this is legit or some sort of scam.
