Key22 Verified Member Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 You can't lose 3/5 of a Rotation and then blame the GM for not having enough depth. And indeed, 2 of the guys that everyone rips AA for were the 2/5 that have not been hurt MB and RA. But what you can't have are players that throw teammates and management under the bus because the team isn't spending $500million on payroll. I really don't want to be paying Shields $20m per for 5 years. He's a number 3 starter who is 33 years old and stunk in the playoffs which was the ole "what have you done for me lately shtick - maybe teams haven't signed him yet because they saw something in his medicals or something. It's not like anyone is leaping at the guy. Perhaps the Jays and AA are doing what Gillick did - stand pat - trust your farm system and built pitching from within. Key and Wells came up as relievers then became starters. With time to reflect - we may have more pitching options coming. Perhaps Russel Martin is more of a miracle worker than we realize. Clubhouse shift in mentality to adding some winners in Donaldson and Martin and getting rid of whiners Lind/Jansen and mopes (Gose). Pitching is coming - we seem to have bags of pitching - 2016/2017 we could have a pretty sick starting rotation while being an interesting team for 2015.
GNick49 Verified Member Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 It's an absolute travesty that this team is not making a play for shields. It surprises me that AA isn't being more aggressive after all the end is nigh for him if the Jays don't win Payroll be way high and he had trouble giving up flyballs before, could be kiss of death at Rogers. Then we have to give up a draft pick and take a starter spot away from Norris, Sanchez be in the 'pen for sure then.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 ??? Shields would be the no.1 starter on the Jays, and its not close.
flafson Verified Member Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Shields would be the no.1 starter on the Jays, and its not close. If you look at WAR/200 innings, Stroman is the ace and it's not even close. Stroman at 5WAR, Shields at 3.3WAR.
flafson Verified Member Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 The Stroman hype based off SSS and some projections is f***ing unjust INB4: Fanboys presume I'm saying he's not good Yea, but it's not like i ignored his bad outings and only included his good ones. Stroman's second half was way better than his first so 130 innings as an average is kinda fair. Anyway, my point was, you can't really say Shields would be the ace and it's not even close...

I think there is something to be said for Longevity. Based on your scale, Steve Pearce of the Orioles is as good as Mike Trout.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I wouldn't guarantee Shields would be the Ace, just as much as I wouldn't guarantee Stroman would be 5+ WAR Labeling someone on each team as "THE ACE" is so f***ing dumb.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Seems to be a trend these days, everyone says they don't give a f*** while totally giving a f*** Moogy?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Not throwing your superiors under the bus is not about keeping a "good boy" image, its called common sense. Those who are very, very good at what they do can throw who ever they want under the bus... Mike Trout, Theo Epstein. Those who are average and have a job that is rare and that others want cannot... Adam Lind, AA, Mike Wilner. But those who are average and have a job that is common can speak their mind. For example a friend I know tends bar, and there are tonnes of jobs for him around.. .he keyed his bosses car and had another job in a couple of days. AA and Wilner live in a strange place where they have to suck up. I would prefer a GM and an announcer who are a step above and can tell the Beeston's of the world to go f themselves.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 What the f*** is a Moogy? It's an STD of a message board.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Moogy? Almost made this exact post last night.

When you come onto the MLB Network looking like that, you're essentially validating the very large amount of tards in baseball who stigmatize and try to discredit stats like WAR simply by associating them with nerds.

After I watched that I scrolled down and watched a Chris Russo clip, there was definite validation for all the pedophiles out there that they have a chance to host a show on the MLB network someday.
