The Blue Jays have claimed righty Matt West off waivers from the Rangers, Ben

Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca tweets. Toronto designated fellow righty Cory Burns

to create roster space.

 

West, 26, had been designated by Texas recently to clear room for the signing of

Juan Carlos Oviedo. He reached the bigs for three outings last season, but spent

most of the year at Triple-A. Across 56 2/3 innings, he worked to a 3.34 ERA with

10.2 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9.

 

The 27-year-old Burns, meanwhile, also pitched last in the majors with Texas. He

worked at Triple-A last year for the Rangers and Rays, totaling 63 2/3 frames with

a 4.95 ERA and 8.2 K/9 against 2.3 BB/9. Toronto claimed him off waivers in late

September.

Forgot about King Kal. Was mainly recognizing the similarity between Pompey, that other naked dude, and the BK Burger.

If he makes the team and turns into a decent piece I can see a Matt West wig giveaway happen.

 

I could see him being this year's answer to Steve Delabar. He might not have the human interest angle but the hair alone is probably enough to make him a thing in the media.

I disagree. He looks like he belongs in the early English monarchy and I think that's fantastic.

I love the hair. I love the mechanics in the one gif. I haven't seen him pitch before so I'm basing it off the stats and what you've all said but not a bad pick up. Certainly better than many waiver claims. He might be one who can be a solid MR guy for the Jays if he can translate some of those number in the bigs.

AA is setting this bullpen up as a major weakness. With so many other posotive loves he is going cheap on an essential part of winning

 

Unless the pen is improved jays will likely be in major bullpen trouble by may/june with that same old song. One blown lead after another
