Sorrow Verified Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 If this was 2 years ago I'd be fine with him as a 4th OF, now no, do not want.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 No thank you. I wish he still had something to offer but you have to squint pretty hard to try and find it. Some extra OF depth would be nice though but it will probably have to come the MiLB contract route at this point.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 In b4 "he'd help us greatly draw in the massive Asian population in Toronto" It'll certainly help give the Jays some exposure in Japan though. But I doubt he'd settle with the Jays.
Governator Community Moderator Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Retire with pride, don't end the career being a bench warmer.

Enough of these stupid Mickey Mouse gimmicks. Get a guy who can still play baseball please. I'm sure the 400 Japanese guys who live in the GTA will be devastated by this non-signing.
Brenner Verified Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Sure why not, we can use the depth.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 In b4 "he'd help us greatly draw in the massive Asian population in Toronto" Not sure if Toronto would even care about a Japanese guy. Its all about the Chinese.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Remember that time Zaun ripped into Ichiro for not trying to hit more home runs? Called him selfish player that only cared about his AVG

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Fake interest as a long-shot effort to influence Toritani?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Remember that time Zaun ripped into Ichiro for not trying to hit more home runs? Called him selfish player that only cared about his AVG I remember Zaun repeatedly saying that Ichiro could hit 20 HR at will. I guess he decided a bunch of slap singles were better though.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Plagiarist I could have deleted my post (or his post)...but I figure people know I'm old, so repeating things is just expected of me. At least I wasn't stealing Silvergun's joke this time, I can take it being V-Dart.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Filler... Denorfia might have been a better fit... So now we are going this Route! Hmmmmm But is not pillar our fourth outfielder already? Do we need another outfielder even?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Filler... Denorfia might have been a better fit... So now we are going this Route! Hmmmmm But is not pillar our fourth outfielder already? Do we need another outfielder even? Pillar still has options so it's no big deal to hold him back as MiLB depth. The team is putting a lot of faith in Pillar and Pompey by having them occupy two of the four OF jobs. I'd like a veteran in the mix. Even if that veteran doesn't project any better than Pillar, that veteran would probably have a better floor and it just gives the team more options if either of Pillar or Pompey struggle. That being said, there's not much left on the market anymore and Ichiro should just retire.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 At this point Kawasaki would put up better numbers than Ichiro... position aside

baubau Verified Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) I doubt the interest is legitimate. More likely throwing Toronto's name for the sake of throwing a name. If the Jays were interested in adding more depth, they should just try to get something done with Andy Dirks. Probably be cheaper and likely to produce as much if not more than Ichiro. reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Ichiro is not completely useless, but on a major league deal? Decent chance he's gone by mid-season. If the news is true it is good though, the Jays should be adding someone reliable in the OF. I thought Eric Young was on the block earlier?

Didn't you know Pompey is a gunna be in the AS game, Saunders will play every game and Bautista will not get injured. Who needs depth.
