I keep hearing between $130mil & $140mil but I was wondering how their current salary is looking right now after all of the off season transactions and returning salaries.

This link below will provide you with current salary projections. The thread is updated periodically by BTS as signings/trades are made. Just look at the first post in the thread.

Toritani was signed by the Padres. Heck, even much maligned option Alberto Callaspo has signed with the Braves. The options are dwindling. It's a damn good thing AA made the Devon Travis trade when he did. Not a lot of alternatives left out there.

Edit: O.K. I guess it's not official with the Padres yet. I thought offering him a starting SS gig had sealed the deal for them but I guess there's still hope. Let's hope it happens.

when did Toritani sign with the Padres?

You quoted my edit but somehow didn't read it.

you are indeed correct I didn't read your full quote. I read the first line and posted my question..lol. I'm in my office doing some work and not give the jaysmessageboard the full attention it deserves.

No worries. I suppose I also could have just deleted the post. I really, really hope the Jays land Toritani, not because he's an upgrade at 2B (he's not necessarily better than Travis) but because the team badly needs some kind of depth behind Reyes at SS and Travis doesn't provide that.

Buy why? what did I say that is deserving of a head shake?

Because you are trying to find every way to spin this as a failed offseason so far, when nothing could be further from the truth.

Dude, don't do that, you despaired me.

We could probably sign Everth Cabrera pretty cheap. Grab him for $2-$3 million pretty easy. Of course, we'll want to wait to confirm he's not going to prison first.

That way, either Cabrera or Reyes can slide over, and we have a decent backup at shortstop.

I've been on this, since he was DFA'd.

while there will likely always be a position we'd complain about, brutal that the 2B discussion has been going on for a few years now. The worst imo was last year when they all but anointed Goins the starting 2B; at least we don't have to deal with that nonsense rhetoric from AA again this off-season.

Im not so optimististic as some of you. The added WAR we a we aquired will likely be lost with the aquisitions of Shertzer and Shields to the Yanks and Sox and our starting rotation is average at best. No front of the rotation power arm and no adequate 5th starter. Too high of expectations for Stroman and Hutch IMO and too little depth if any of our starters succomb to injuries. Still huge question marks at Cf/2b, and our BP has even bigger concerns. No legitimate DH to replace Lind (EE can DH but Smoak is replacement level at best at 1b). I guess Im In the minority for having wished we brought Cabrerra back. If we do DH by committee as many of you push for, what happens if one or more of our stars goes down with injuries? If we had used the money saved on Melky to sign Shields I would probably feel a lot better going into the season.

Swapping out Navarro for Martin behind the plate is more or less the same thing as bringing in a new pitcher. The improvement in run prevention will be split amongst multiple pitchers but the net result should be about the same.

Lol those responses were killer but other than his opening blunder he brought up some good points. We need depth at 2B/CF and a SP along with 2 RP's for the pen. Ideally in a perfect world the Jays would drop $25mil and plug those holes and we'd all be doing backflips but I think realistically at this point most of us are expecting Navarro to get flipped for a RP and perhaps a few other minor transactions to acquire more help in the pen. Don't get me wrong though I would love for the Jays to blow me away again before the season started or perhaps at the deadline if we're competitive.

Personally my biggest fear with such a young core (Stro, Hutch, Sanchez, Norris) is even if two of the four perform but one of either Buehrle or Dickey significantly regress how far ahead are we really? Toss an injury into that equation and things get pretty scary. Same for in the field, 2B/CF are unknowns and if Reyes or Saunders (who are both injury prone) go down we are up s***'s creek in the depth department. Heaven forbid one of Bautista, Encarnacion, Donaldson miss any significant time..

Lot's of time left and I'm trying to be optimistic but in regards to Rogers, last year kind of left a bad taste in my mouth at the trade deadline.

Pitching depth is an issue. Graveman and Nolin were more than worth giving up for the opportunity to add a second 5 win player and make the lineup a bit less EE/Bautistat dependant but the flip side of that is the pitching depth is really thin. I mean you want as much of your wins as possible to be on the field, not be held back for depth so no regrets but with improvements come costs. Bad breaks could exarcebate those costs but no team is ever fully protected from bad breaks. It helps a lot to start with something really good on the field and work from there.

on MLB radio just said they thought you could get Ardusal Cabrerra for 2years at $18million.

Worth it for Jays to solidify 2B and have a back up at SS in case Reyes gets hurt???

He's not the greatest but... given position on the win curve and everything, there's an argument to be made for it. The big drawback is that if Travis performs to expectations you find yourself with a really expensive backup in year 2 that nobody really wants (or else they would have signed him themselves).

Well no we wont lose WAR, but we'll lose wins that that added WAR was supposed to have induced if the other teams we face a lot got a lot better too.

But we can still add pitching, just refusing to for some reason

If we just signed a pitcher, we got Norris, Sanchez, and Estrada as depth which is pretty decent.
