Not really a fan of Heaney for Kendrick for the Dodgers. Nice deal for the Angels I think.

Dogers started the day with Dee Gordon and ended with a much better player in Kendrick as well as Kike Hernandez, Austin Barnes and Chris Hatcher.

So this begs the question, would Norris/Sanchez for Kendrick have done it, and would any of us have been happy if that had happened?

+ a pending deal for Rollins, and signed McCarthy

Look at it from Friedman's perspective. He doesn't care if he "won the specific trade imo"

In one day he added prospects and upgraded a position.

and that my friends is a WIN

Kendrick has Toronto on his no trade list

Yeah, he did. Still though, when you include the salaries plus what they're paying the Marlins, they basically paid 22M + Gordon and Haren for a single season of Kendrick and 3 prospects. That's not very good asset management imo.

Yeah I dislike this new deal very much. Just because it started off great, and it's Friedman, I don't wanna discount that. Similar to how the Wells deal started off tremendous and winded up being just decent after the bad Napoli flip for Francisco, I think this deal was godlike when it started off, but Heaney for Kendrick is a questionable move.

Still an excellent trade with all said and done, because Kendrick for Gordon straight up is a great upgrade, and everything else thrown in is gravy, but it would have been a lot better if they held onto Heaney, at least in my opinion.

The Fallout from Dodger's Day:

http://m.bluejays.mlb.com/news/article/103750812/toronto-blue-jays-looking-to-trade-market-to-bolster-bullpen

The Blue Jays are expected to have an increased payroll in 2015, but there are a number of factors that will be a concern for the organization. Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, R.A. Dickey and Ricky Romero can be bought out of their contracts at the end of the '15 season for a combined $4.6 million. Romero is the only one of that group that's expected to have his option terminated, but there is still time for that to change.

If Bautista, Encarnacion or Dickey suffered a serious injury that jeopardized the 2016 season, the options could be bought out. Even if that's unlikely it's something the organization will have to take into consideration for accounting purposes. In other words, the buyout would have to be paid immediately and could not be deferred to the following season.

Add all of that in with the fact Toronto also will have to pay for replacements when players on the 25-man roster hit the disabled list -- or when someone on the 40-man roster gets optioned to the Minors -- and a different financial outlook emerges. The Blue Jays never comment on specifics about payroll, but the available funds appear to be a lot closer to the $5 million to $10 million range than the previously reported $20 million.

Well looks like there isn't nearly as much money as we thought. You would think the options would still apply for last year so last year's payroll would of been slightly higher as well. Still, when Navarro is traded there should be 15 million to play with.

Bring on the new Japanese guy, at least that's what I'm getting from that quote... Of course Boras saying "yeah, the Jays totally have interest in my client of whom you've never heard..." wouldn't exactly be an unthinkable tactic to get people interested in a client of whom they've never heard...

You're in for a group game, errrrr drunk right?

Crazy f***ing day for the Dodgers...

If this trade gets done, and the Dodgers do get some pitching prospects from the Padres, don't be surprised if before long, those same prospects are flipped to the Phillies for Hamels.

Padres about to do something really dumb

Not sure if this was posted yet but Arizona considering Navarro apparently.

Could be a decent fit. They have some pretty decent relievers both on their 25 man roster and in the minors. I'm not sure if Evan Marshall is realistic, but he'd be a really nice return. They also have Delgado among the non lefty relievers. In the minors Jimmie Sherfy, Kaleb Fleck, Jake Barrett, and Enrique Burgos are all hard throwing guys with late inning potential, with Fleck, Barrett, Sherfy the closest to being ready to pitch in 2015.

Where have I heard these names before?

If Grandal is really going to the Dodgers, maybe San Diego would have interest in Navarro as well. Benoit, Thayer, Alvarez, Quackenbush, Vincent would all be intriguing relief options.

The Dodgers asked for catcher Yasmani Grandal plus young pitchers Joe Ross and Zach Eflin in trade talks that stretched for weeks. Grandal was believed to be the centerpiece of the package, though it isn't known what the final package was. It isn't known how much, if any, money is involved in the trade. Kemp has $10 million to go over the next five years on his $160-million, eight-year deal.

Holy f***, if there is no money exchanged in this deal, it literally might be one of the worst trades in the history of baseball.

BP:

Jimmie Sherfy, RHP, (Diamondbacks)

In two innings of work this afternoon, Sherfy showed why he’s a legitimate back-end of the bullpen prospect. The 6-foot, 175-pound righty has a narrow frame and small hips but generates plenty of momentum to the plate by utilizing a drop-and-drive delivery with some effort, including a slight hook in the back, a head whack, and a bit of a spin off to first base. His fastball was a plus-plus pitch, sitting 95-97, touching 98 with some natural arm-side run coming from an extended three-quarters arm slot. His slider also flashed double-plus at 81-83 with legitimate swing-and-miss potential within the zone, though he occasionally got around the pitch and threw a few fringy cement mixers in his second inning of work. His fastball command also wavered in his second frame, though the former Oregon Duck showed the ability to command the zone in a one-inning stint. The upside is an electric late-innings arm with the potential to be a low-tier closer at his peak.

Kaleb Fleck, RHP (Diamondbacks)

He's not the most hyped relief arm in the Diamondbacks’ system, as Jimmy Sherfy is the more familiar name. Enrique Burgos also steals some spotlight from Fleck at the moment. But Fleck's arsenal and delivery are reminiscent of Royals closer Greg Holland. Fleck worked with a 95-97 mph fastball that had explosive life and an 85-87 mph wipeout slider. His delivery features a glove tap timing mechanism to trigger his late explosion toward the left-handed batter's box, working exclusively from the stretch. While he doesn't command either pitch, he stays around the strike zone in spite of falling off severely to the first base side. In the two outings I caught he brutally overpowered hitters with his pure stuff. If he can maintain that level of stuff and continue to throw it for consistent strikes he should be ready to succeed in the big leagues very soon. He'll face stiff competition for a big-league promotion and the Diamondbacks have some low cost arms already in the bullpen, but so long as he stays healthy it would be surprising if he doesn't pitch his way into the big leagues at some point in the near future.

Evan Marshall would be awesome, but if they have no intention of giving up someone from the pen, I wonder what they do intend to trade? Hill maybe?
