TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Meh. You could argue Hutch, Dickey and Buerhle (factoring in their D). Haven't looked up the numbers but my blind eye tells me that Miley is one of the best defensive pitchers
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Wow la trade frenzy! Makes me think my trade proposal of Norris,Shanchez,Ousana,Pillar, izturis,Jimenez plus salary relief throw in Rickey romero for Champan,Phillips and Cueto just might be doable this off season still!!! Wake the Ninja and make it sooooo!
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24880168/sources-padres-dodgers-on-verge-of-a-matt-kemp-blockbuster Holy f***, if there is no money exchanged in this deal, it literally might be one of the worst trades in the history of baseball. They threw in 30 mil to cover the contract. The Padres have kemp for 5 years 77 mil. That's pretty reasonable for a big middle of the order bat. Throw him in a corner outfield position and his defense isn't as big of an issue. He posted a .971 OPS in the second half. If he posts an .OPS anywhere close to .900 he's going to be a great player for the padres.

Wake the Ninja and make it sooooo! so you want to empty the entire farm for 1 year of cueto and 2 years of chapman and 3 years of an overpaid player on the decline. I'm pretty sure it doesn't take a ninja to pull of that deal. Cinci would be all over that deal.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 This deal is so hilarious. Grandal is a much better player than Kemp alone. Kemp's health is a gamble, but if he's healthy his bat is a thousand times better than Grandal. The padres are never going to be able to sign a power bat. A trade like this makes sense for them. 15.4 AAV for a guy that play in the middle of your lineup is important for the padres.
Westfan Verified Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Wow not liking some of these Dodger deals. 4/48 for Brandon McCarthey. Well I guess he Might stay healthy. Then there is Andrew Heaney for 1 year of Kendrick. Those are the type of deals you can make when you have a billion to spend. Glad Kendrick had us on his no trade. Got lots for Kemp thou.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 And Grandal's defense value is immensely higher. WAYYYYY higher. 12 passed balls, throws out 13 percent of runners and pitchers don't like throwing to him and he only played 76 games behind the plate. That's some fantastic defense. He's been suspended and tied to steroids. Kemp played through injury and he's not a centre fielder. Put him in left and watch him hit bombs. Grandal had 443 plate appearances last year and put up a 1.1 WAR. In what techno coloured dream world is Grandal a 3.7 WAR player?

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 @CJNitkowski: Told Cespedes to Detroit, Porcello to Boston is done. f***
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 @CJNitkowski: Told Cespedes to Detroit, Porcello to Boston is done. f*** I guess makes sense if Detroit is going to sign back Max
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 @CJNitkowski: Told Cespedes to Detroit, Porcello to Boston is done. f*** Good trade for both teams. Porcelo's ground ball tendencies make him a good fit for Fenway and the Tigers OF situation was pretty fugly.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 So Boston's rotation is looking like Porcello Miley Buchholz Kelly I bet they go hard after shields or scherzer
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Most productive 12 hours ever for a front office? The Dodgers filled holes at catcher, second base, shortstop, third starter, middle relief. They did this by barely adding to their payroll and not trading ANY top prospects. That kind of efficiency isn't supposed to happen.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 So Boston's rotation is looking like Porcello Miley Buchholz Kelly I bet they go hard after shields or scherzer yeah, I like Porcello, but its not a scary rotation at all.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 yeah, I like Porcello, but its not a scary rotation at all. Porcello is a ~3 win pitcher, Lester is a ~4 win guy. It's not as much of a downgrade as you'd think. Flipping Lester for Cespedes for Porcello was pretty smart. Last four seasons by xFIP- Porcello: 99, 94, 81, 97 Lester: 91, 96, 87, 73 Lester needs to sustain his recent performance to come out ahead. Porcello is a legit #2/3 starter.

Porcello is a mid rotation guy...he's not a number 2....their entire rotation is mid rotation guys just like the Jays...let the offenses battle it out. At least Stroman looks like he could be a number 2 starter.

He's probably better than many pitchers you'd consider to be #2/3 guys.

SAAviour Verified Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Cespedes seams so over valued to me. I'm surprised he keeps get trading for good pitching. Maybe I'm wrong and he's actuallly good at more then the home run derby. I feel sox won this trade.

Not sure that is would empty the farm, ace pitcher, bonifide closer and that declining 2b player is still better then what we trotted out there last year! Also with Buehrle off the books we might afford Cueto moving forward too! Or get a pick. Plus I believe the window is beginning to close on this chapter off this team. One maybe two year and then we might be forced to rebuild so you might as well load up and go for it this year!
SAAviour Verified Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 @Joelsherman1: Since losing out on Lester, #Redsox have added Miley, Porcello without adversely impacting prospect base, payroll, so can do lots more And I think the Red Sox are about to have a dodgeresque week.
