ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Can't really blame O's fans for thinking they can get something good for DD. A lot of Jays fans thought we were gonna get a way better haul for John Farrell than we did. There was some pretty ridiculous players mentioned as a return for our old manager and all we got was Mike f***in Aviles. Aviles plus some relief power pitcher. Not too shabby I'd say.

Dirty SlobberKnocker Verified Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 That's a bluejays policy not a major league policy Oh, didn't realize that.

Its actually comical when fans have no real basis for their bitterness and conspiracies so they start up the whole "that team is a disgrace" diatribe. If this actually happens we should pitch in and send the O's board a bunch of white t-shirts. "He doesn't just steal signs: He steals GM's" I doubt anything even happens.

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Do they not understand that this happens at every level of baseball regarding managers, hitting coaches, pitching coaches, gm's .... It's an accepted practice to get permission to talk to other teams employees of the position you want them for is a promotion from their current role. It's also accepted that if the job isn't a promotion, you don't get permission to talk to them. There's nothing shady, silly or anything even remotely resembling tampering whosoever. Be mad that you're losing a great FO man, but don't blame the team willing to advance the man's career. Also, don't blame the man for advancing his career. Fans are dumb. while i generally agree with you, the timing of this deal is hilariously shady.

bendera3 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Managers and executives don't typically get great players when compensation is needed. Farrell got Aviles, Theo got a relief pitcher. If Angelos does let him leave I can't imagine the O's get back more than maybe a 2nd or 3rd tier prospect. By the way, how much would it suck to be stuck in a job where you can't even take a promotion if it comes available?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 This is utterly terrifying You don't know terrifying. While I was putting that picture together on photoshop, I had a very hard time keeping my eyes away from what looks quite obviously like herpes on Beeston's upper lip.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Didnt Jays fans want Pedroia or Lester for Farrell. There are dumb fans in every market. I'd have actually given them something just to get Farrell the f*** off this team. f***ing #CraftyFarrell
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 how much would it suck to be stuck in a job where you can't even take a promotion if it comes available? If Duquette wants the job bad enough, he can probably just resign from his gig with the Orioles. Of course that would probably destroy any chances the Jays have of making any transactions with them, but seeing as how that's already such a rarity due to the dumbass practice of not trading in-division, I guess that's not such a bad thing.

If Duquette's contact doesn't state certain stipulations about working for rival teams then he's free to resign and seek employment elsewhere.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Which players have come out of GM "trades" in the past? Is it always PTBNL types? Any hope we can get Stroman and Pompey and Sanchez and... We would easily get a couple of them. lulz
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Why would the O's want Duquette to stay if he doesn't want to? Would they trust his dealings/negotiations afterwards? I know I wouldn't.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Peter Angelos Orioles managing partner Peter G. Angelos said he is “very pleased with” the performance of executive vice president Dan Duquette and expects him to continue in his role through 2018. “We signed him. He has a commitment for four more years, and he has done quite a job for us. We are very pleased with his performance, and we expect him to satisfy his contract,” Angelos said Sunday. “We not only want him to, but we expect him to. … We don’t want him to go away, and we don’t expect him to go away. And he’s given no indication he wants to go away.” Several reports Sunday suggest that Duquette is a desired candidate for the Toronto Blue Jays president job -- one that would be considered a step above his position with the Orioles. But Duquette, who signed an extension in the 2012 offseason that takes him through 2018, is contractually obligated to the Orioles, Angelos said. And Angelos said that’s the way it should remain. Angelos believes there’s no other alternative. “He is a sophisticated individual,” Angelos said of Duquette. “He has a certain performance that is required in terms of the contract and, under those terms, he has four more years of service to be performed. I’m sure he is prepared to do that, and I am sure he understands that.” Angelos, who typically doesn’t attend the winter meetings, said he loves the GM-manager combination that he has with Duquette and Buck Showalter, who is also signed through the 2018 season. Under the duo, the Orioles have had three consecutive winning seasons and made the playoffs twice. “Suffice to say there is a contract that binds both parties to a four-year contract and binds Dan as the GM of the Orioles. I would say he has done an excellent job with his performance and particularly his performance with Buck,” Angelos said. “Why would we want to break up that combination that we have? The relationship between Buck and Dan and the Orioles is something we are very pleased with, to put it mildly.
Undefeated_JaysFan Verified Member Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Poaching should be irrelevant unless it's in Duquette's contract that he must fufill the remaining 4 years of the deal, correct?
