JPMorosi, said that mlb was applying pressure for the O's to let him go. According to his sources, it has been common practice for a team to let someone go for a promotion, and that they were using the all star game, as a threat/reward to work something out.

MLB cant do a thing. It's all up to Peter.

Key points some here are forgetting.

1.4 years left on deal.

2.A.L East to A.L East

3.Dan knows all the Orioles weaknesses

4. Peter Angelos stubron old man

So please don't use Theo as past comp. He had 1 year left on deal and the owner had no problem with him going.

1.4 years left on deal. - K.......he wants to move for a promotion, s*** happens.

2.A.L East to A.L East - Doesn't matter

3.Dan knows all the Orioles weaknesses - So does everyone else.

4. Peter Angelos stubborn old man - His problem.

I'm pretty sure i've read before that MLB has the final word on pretty much everything to do with MLB teams.

You underestimate the commissioners office.

How is that working out for them now in court with Peter? Peter is owning them and gonna win. They don't wanna pick another fight.

1. Irrelevant

2. Irrelevant

3. Irrelevant

4. Irrelevant

Funny, normally people are allowed to interview for promotions, like when the O's were allowed to talk to LaCava. Angelos is being a douchebag, and if you honestly think you're getting someone like Stroman you can maybe pull your head out of your ass.

lol.

It's a bad rep to have. Not allowing your people to pursue promotions...Just think about how this would play out in the real world...not allowing someone to interview or apply for a promotion? It may very well impact ones ability to hire elite candidates in the future. Maybe he doesn't care...but he should if he has any business sense. And maybe he ends up being a stubborn coot....but how well do you think that will play with the Orioles front office staff, players, media, and fans...knowing that their GM has his heart set on something else and he's still there influencing the present and future of the organization. All it takes is common sense to figure out that this is not an acceptable outcome. DD is going to be let go...it's not if, but when.

Hey he's not stopping him. Just not gonna let a guy that turned his team around go for free.

AA wouln't do the hiring of course but I can't see why he wouldn't be involved in the talks around compensation. It would be foolhardy for Pelley to come to an agreement on appropriate compensation without consulting somene from the baseball side of things.

That's why I said "final say", they'll obviously want his input.

He already has this bad rep you speak of. That's widely believe to be the reason why LaCava and others have turned down promotions to work for him. He's a stubborn old coot who thinks the rules don't apply to him.

You know it sucks for Orioles fans. But this will happen in the end. Just like Jays fans hated the Sox for stealing Farrell, and that wasn't even for a promotion. In the end, either Angelos, cares about his team and their fans or he doesn't. There was a reason that LaCava turned down the job before DD got it, and it has to do with Angelos and his contributions to the game. As far as the MASN suit goes, they have nothing to do with each other.

MLB, has a clause in all their agreements, something along the lines of "for the betterment of the game". DD will be leaving the O's, and Showalter will finally get the job that he has always wanted.

If this deal gets done a lot of peeps here gonna be mad at the comp. You just don't know Peter.

Explain to me, WHY exactly do we need Dan Duquette? We can just hire somebody else, we're not gonna give up any significant assets for him.

Seems like you guys want him bad. Jon Morosi said he's number 1 on the list.

Why? Do you have secret Baltimore news that no one else can access?

I don't think anybody from our front office has even made a comment about Duquette other than mentioning he is a possible candidate.

Don't get your hopes up dude

Do you want KLaw or Tiger Tango?

Duquette will be perfect. The guy have a name and every team except O's likes him

They GAVE David Carpenter to the Red Sox in the Farrell trade, not the other way around. We got Carpenter with JA Happ from Houston originally.

Yep, the best part of that deal for the Jays was getting rid of Farrell though, the craftyness was just too much.

But... Not only was the return Aviles (meh) but we had to send a semi-decent (at the time) reliever as a part of the package to even get the meh return!

Yeah these manager/executive compensation deals are basically under the table deals. You can't trade a player for another type of employee so something else has to be coming the other way.

Hey, how come you don't talk to me anymore in the LOD? I think we could work something out.

I never understand why years left on a contract for an executive would matter. Besides Friedman this offseason no executives really leave as a "FA". If you do a good job you almost always will get signed to a contact extension. Its not like 4 years left on a contract is worth more than 1 year because the executive is going to go out and "explore the market".

I assume you mean DDL? I responded in our discussion on January 10th. Am not aware of new messages regarding LOD or DDL.

Yeah sorry DDL. I had LOD on the brain. My notifications on ProBoards are f***ed for some reason. I thought I had fixed it but I missed your PM again. I checked for it for awhile and then just gave up. Should have checked again before bringing it up here.

Exactly, it's just business. Who wouldn't look for a better job, it happens all the time, baseball execs shouldn't be immune to this practice. Dog eat dog, world.

Not only that, but the optics it sets within the O's organization. What exec, GM, coach would want to work for a team that will limit their future opportunities based on a contract?

It's a well known precedent and unspoken law within ALL professional sports that employees are allowed to explore promotion opportunities. PA may be stubborn but he's not dumb. His rants about not letting him go is sheer bargaining.

Oh, and to those that say this is bad timing on the Jays part, if the Angelos simply just let the Jays interview him, this whole process would of been finished 2 months ago.

The Blue Jays organization is shady and classless from top to bottom. Even the fans. Their stadium is a complete dump and they'll never win a World Series again. The pay and title raises are literally the only reasons I can see DD accepting the position.

lmfao. Love Orioles Hangout.
