jays76 Verified Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 When the Nats first moved to Washington, Angelos fought it and got a deal where the TV revenue shared by the two teams were a 85-15 split. You f*** with Angelos, you're going to get ripped off. He isn't going to be accepting your backup players or fringe prospects for his GM. I don't see that hard headed stooge Angelos coming out on top here, as mentioned no self respecting exec wants to get sandwiched between Angelos, his sons & Buck Showalter. He's digging in here but the most damage done will be to himself. Already reports are coming out that the FO work environment is toxic, having DD stay now is the ultimate poison pill. This crappy off season might be getting a lot worse for O's fans..
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Meh. Any other team is still has a terrible fanbase to me. This isn't true. Mariners fan base is hilarious, at least the guys over on Lookout Landing. Look through the thread about the Saunders trade. Most of the guys there were totally unhappy about the move, but most of the comments were still light-hearted and humorous, despite a s*** situation that none of them should have been happy with. http://i.gyazo.com/6e381b8d25d34c304c8ad9fe1228ed74.png Though that is kind of consistent with SB Nation in general, a lot of their fan bases are a just generally a lot "classier" than most of those that you encounter on forums.

Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 lol Baltimore rates so poorly in everything: http://www.travelandleisure.com/americas-favorite-cities/2010/city/baltimore They are near the bottom in the attractive, intelligent, athletic and friendly categories.
jays76 Verified Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Who gives a f***? Angelos is not a big deal. I don't know why he thinks, and why Baltimore fans think that he's such an important man. If he was as much of a tough son of a bitch as he's being made out to be, 90% of what we're hearing in the news wouldn't be forcibly leaked by the old shitter himself. He's desperate because he knows he's in a situation where he's between a rock and a hard place. He either publicly bends over and submits and gives up Duquette, or he forces a guy to stay against his own wishes. He has absolutely no leverage, which is why we're now hearing of reports that the Orioles are considering blackmailing the Jays against a "tampering charge". We know nothing about how much of a moron Ed Rogers really is. He hasn't spoken on the matter. All we know is what fossilized idiots like Bob Elliott have reported, and Elliott talks more out of his ass than he does out of his mouth. Is there a miniscule chance that Rogers is a raging idiot and will make a dumb decision? Yes. But there is an exponentially greater chance that when all is said and done, trade or no trade, Orioles fans will be left bitter, angry, and completely unsatisfied about the whole thing. Which I guess is okay, since that's your fan base's general composure all the time. Exactly! He's putting on a brave face with his false bravado but he doesn't have close to the leverage he thinks he does to pull off his bully act. The Jays have the leverage here and are backed by the league who's been warring with Angelos for years. Pride comes before the fall and he's setting himself up for a nice one this off season.

LMAO, holy s***, everyone who travels to Baltimore really does hates it as much as you'd think they would. f***ing hell, the residents THEMSELVES rated their people 34/35 in attractiveness, 28/35 in intelligence, and 27/35 in friendliness.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Please be true.... I'm down with this. Is Dan Duquette really worth dealing with Angelos externally and staging a palace coup internally? Probably not. Beeston has to go but this is kind of a f***ed up way of doing it. There's been talk about how this has probably been hindering Baltimore's off season but it may be getting in the way of AA finishing off his off-season too since Beest is the one who signs off on his moves.
metafour Verified Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 So we walk away and Baltimore is stuck with a GM that willingly wanted to walk away and was denied a promotion by his hothead owner who f***ed up the deal by making retarded demands as compensation? LOOOOOOOOL.

Beeston is working without a contract (apparently). He likely knows he's on borrowed time and they are searching for his replacement. Nothing has really changed if the Jays pass on Duquette. With that said, please let Stephen Brunt be right!!! End this gong show now and let's add some wins for 2015.

Beeston was on his way out anyway; worst case scenario you make him sit quietly in an office somewhere for a ~year, its not like the franchise will fold without his "leadership". The Baltimore outcome is much worse as Duquette is someone they had no plan or intention of replacing, and now he's supposed to just go back to work as if nothing happened? Its not like Duquette is going to put the blame on us for not getting a deal done as he's smart enough to know that no one in their right mind should be expected to trade "Hoffman plus more" to give him a freaking promotion.

The Beeston situation is definitely the lesser clusterf***. Brunt in his interview mentions that Beeston's contract actually expired so I assume he's just doing it Don Draper style these days. Sound like all you have to do is just tell him to stay home to get rid of him. I wish it would have been handled better though (not that I give a s*** about Beeston but the optics aren't great). Beeston's departure should have been announced right off the bat.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 And the Jays would be stuck with a CEO that just got stabbed in the back and who doesn't seem like the brightest bulb at the best of times. It's nothing like the situation with Orioles fans. We know that Duquette wants out of Baltimore because we can deduce that pretty safely by how he's responded in the media throughout the whole fiasco. We don't know that this has actually been done behind Beeston's back. As Davidi reported near mid-season last year, Beeston's contract expired in October, before all of this came to the forefront. He didn't sign an extension, so I think he probably knew the team was going to start looking for a new president. If Beeston was disgruntled about the whole thing, he could leave at any time. He's not on a contract, and if he felt he was on borrowed time until they found a new guy, why wouldn't he say f*** this and leave? The likeliest scenario is that Beeston knows the search is going on and has done the professional thing in agreeing to stay on till they can find a replacement. Worst case scenario, they did go behind his back, Beeston feels angry and slighted, but has almost no control over the actual baseball ops of the team, so it still has next to no significance for the fans or the team itself. Even if he was upset though, I can't imagine Beeston getting in the way of Alex's business. They're great friends and their offices are glued together.
Testicles Verified Member Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 In other words, they are Mexicans!! I've actually never even seen a Mexican in Baltimore that I can remember. Lots of Asians and African Americans in the city.
