StroShow Verified Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 First off this isn't like those. Stop acting like it is. But it's not like this process is being dragged out because Showalter is having a tough time picking two out of the bunch mentioned. O's just aren't receiving guys of that ilk.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 That's straight up unprofessional. Olney knows what standard compensation is in these situations. Onley is rarely right about much though so maybe he doesn't
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Onley is rarely right about much though so maybe he doesn't He's either a) lying/trolling or too clueless to remember and too lazy to look it up. Doesn't say much for his intellectual honesty either way.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Honestly, how do some of these guys have jobs in baseball? Their sources are rarely right, they're borderline illiterate and they're just not good writers. There are some great writers and great insiders like BNS and Kenny Ken respectively but some of these guys are so bad. About this specific case with Olney though, I'm very sure Angelos is whispering in his ear.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 lmfao, there's an article on Camden Chat that's claiming that the fact that the Padres got the 2016 all-star game was out of personal spite from the MLB against the Orioles over the MASN case, and that MLB was only "dangling" the possibility of an All-Star game in Baltimore to try and bribe them into being flexible in the court. Oh and wanna guess what two names were mentioned within the first ten comments on the discussion thread? If you guessed Mike Mussina and Cito Gaston, you were right. http://i.gyazo.com/723a9f0cb9c946378418b26b541e9381.png
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 The comment section by the O's fans can be summed up with:
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Between Markakis, Miller and Cruz leaving and the front office standing pat and all this drama about Duquette and the MASN dispute and now this All-Star game stuff and the fact that Cito still rings their bells, there's so much actively available schadenfreude at the expense of O's fans, it's f***ing beautiful.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I'm enjoying their pain a little too much.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 They removed him from all baseball related duties...yet for some reason they put him in charge of this one. Even worse is that he went out to seek the advice of who to hire from his UWO buddies...who work for the Yankees. Nothing like getting removed from all baseball activities from your Dad's baby...then they give you one role and he seeks the advice of a division rival. I'll have to find a link where this was actually stated as it was a kid from school that told me he read it. I never actually sourced the story so I'm sorry if this is BS. Geez...shouldn't Pelley be doing this?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I remember most posters here realizing that Farrell wouldn't return much of anything. I was surprised at the return, although it was lateral.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 The sooner this cluster gets done with the better for both clubs. I can't really see AA giving up too much, especially some of the names tossed around, for DD, when he wouldn't give them up for proven MLB player. If it gets worked out, great. If not, oh well. Just sooner the better. It's more tabloid than anything and it gives something to talk about but it would better if one day we log on to see AA completing a deal for some solid reliever(s) or otherwise tweaking the roster. I wouldn't mind DD but look who you're trying to negotiate with plus the contact they'd let him out of so it would take something. You have to give up something to make something but to give up one or more of what's left of our prospects, especially younger pitchers, when they might be needed especially with the contracts of MN, RAD being up, and no guarantee the Jays will be able to sign someone to replace them it seems risky. Baltimore will try to bend AA over a barrel and I hope he says no, and maybe they talk during the season or next year or find someone else who has some skills but won't cost them an arm and a leg. Then again this is mostly speculation by many people at this point so it's just that.

Toronto is the worst, I can't stand the Yankees or the Sox either but the BJs I dislike because everything about them from that dump of a stadium to its d-bag players all they way back tDuluth Gaston, they are just a low class organization, who else pulls this crap right before the winter meetings, Beeson says he's staying another year and then this again, if they want DD that bad give up Pompey, Norris and a few MLB pieces if it's that important to get him" Followed directly by... "They don't seem to adhere to any sort if rules, which is part of what runs people the wrong way. But at the end of the day, nothing happens unless on the Orioles' terms."

Orioles Verified Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 A) Yes it is, and That wasn't my point. No it's not. 4 years left on deal and AL East to AL East. Your gonna have to pay more then the other ones on the last point alone.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 No it's not. 4 years left on deal and AL East to AL East. Throwing out names like Norris and Stroman is just dishonest reporting.

Management contracts really don't move the needle on anything since they don't explore "free agency" If you are good, you sign long term. If you aren't, you get fired.

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Instead of worrying about what you might get back in compensation, if I were a O's fan, i'd be much more worried about having a GM who's only seeming way to advance in the next 4 years is to get himself fired from his current position. That's probably the main reason teams don't usually block advancement for exec's. If Angelos didn't have the CEO spot reserved for himself he could have just promoted Duquette and been done with it.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Wouldn't be surprised if that was the plan...in four years. lol
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 If Angelos didn't have the CEO spot reserved for himself he could have just promoted Duquette and been done with it. Didn't Angelos get a raise after turning down the Orioles? Rewarding loyalty instead of demanding it...

He's talking as if Dan Duquette's contract is enforced under the collective bargaining agreement between the MLB and MLBPA. I wonder how much the Jays would have to pay if they wanted to get Jim Rutherford from the Penguins? Or Bob Myers from the Warriors? Or perhaps Rogers needs to send Bell Marcus Stroman to sweep the floors as compensation when they poach Bell's entire janitorial team? In reality it's pretty much this: What does 4 years of anything to do with it? Management contracts really don't move the needle on anything since they don't explore "free agency" If you are good, you sign long term. If you aren't, you get fired.
