Replacing Beeston is honestly probably more important than getting Josh Donaldson or Russell Martin. A good front office can provide a competitive team for years. This is so exciting.

Wonder if they promote AA to fill the position then put Tinnish in at GM. I probably wouldn't do that, but wonder if they would.

Does this have anything to do with the 5-year policy, I wonder? It was reported that Rogers management wanted to dictate to Blue Jays management that they sign Lester, 5-year policy be damned. in the name of boosting their image If Beeston pushed back, then maybe they decided it was time for him to go.

This could be nothing, since Beeston's contract is/was up, so it could just be them looking to replace him. The fact that Olney has said 'Actively' makes me wonder if there is a rift that has pushed the issue.

Oh lord.

I thought there have been rumors for a little while now that Beeston was looking to move on. This might be completely Beeston's choice (as much as some would love for it to be ownership kicking him aside).

Who cares. As long as he's leaving.

Tinnish? I'd think La Cava would be in line for the job before Tinnish.

Also, for the President and CEO role, I'd think we would be looking for someone with a business background, as opposed to a "President - Baseball Operations", which AA would be if he were promoted (where he'd pretty much still do the same stuff albeit with a glorified title a la Epstein and Friedman, who still actually report to a President/CEO in Ricketts and Kasten).

You should care.

If Beeston is as blatantly bad as you think, wouldn't you feel better if ownership was able to see it and act on it rather than be completely oblivious and he's just leaving because he wants to? I'd rather we have a smart ownership group than one with its head up its can and doesn't see a problem that's clearly in front of them.

That's a good point.

I agree with this and have said something similar to some of those who were s***ing all over AA for a couple of years. It all starts from the top.

Sources: #Orioles GM Dan Duquette a top candidate to be #BlueJays’ president. Move would be a promotion. Difficult for O’s to stand in way.

Could someone please explain what the team's president job is?

For all i know he just sits on those big TD comfort chairs with his weird glasses and smiles. Oh, and the GM calls him right after he made a move.

bachelor of economics from McMaster. That's pretty much nothing.

He doesn't have a BA in economics...not yet at least. He did go to McMaster for economics but he is currently two elective courses short for the degree.

Aside from an Econ undergrad degree, he hasn't necessarily worked in a business context inside or outside of baseball.

A couple 'hot' names moving up the business-side exec ranks that i'd look out for are:

Kelly Cheeseman - Started working for Leiweke at AEG and is now COO of AEG Sports in charge of the Kings and Galaxy. The Leiweke connection could be good and bad. Theres that familiarity with Rogers/AEG, but If tim really is leaving because he disliked working for Rogers and / or Bell then he probably would not recommend a role to a former colleague. That said in this case, he'd only be working for Rogers.

Tucker Kain - CFO of the Dodgers, and handpicked by Kasten/Magic/Guggenheim ownership group to come over from Guggenheim to help run the Dodgers. Cleveland kid too, so he'd be closer to home.

He never finished his degree at McMaster.

..Yowch, he really does not have a business background, lol.

What are the pros/cons of those guys?

President/CEO is about being both a strategic planner for the organization and being a day-to-day manager. It's about surrounding yourself with people who can excel in their specific roles. Organizational culture is top-down from the President/CEO. The President/CEO of the Blue Jays curates organizational policies and oversees financial management.

It's not just about being a liaison between ownership and the GM, and a PR face. The President/CEO is the most important employee of the organization in a long term sense.

Did not know. Not that 2 elective courses really changes anything though other then getting a piece of paper.

Sources: The Blue Jays have also discussed White Sox executive vice president Ken Williams as a replacement for Paul Beeston.

If the president/CEO of my company is any indication, he also has a lot of meetings where he runs powerpoint, but hasn't quite figured out how to use it properly, so the screen is never maximized...

Yeah. An unexpected family death forced him out of university to take over his family business in Montreal...then he went on/applied to the expos after that...
