King Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 The playoffs will be easy to make.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I think the Marlins move was a move he would have still made, but the Dickey move was made because he was still on a tight budget after that move and Ownership wanted an "Ace". Well at that time a HUGE part of Dickeys value was his potential to be an ace at low cost. Along with the marketing. A victim of sexual abuse that had a rocky road throughout the entirety of his major league career, who suddenly discovered a prodigious pitch, won a Cy Young, and wrote a book? It had headlines written all over it, and that's exactly what they did after the trade.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Gruber is crying, Lmao!! LMAO.. What's his contract like? I don't hate Saunders, I just like Melky or Markakis more. I'm good with this. We're signing a free agent SP for sure now, plus a few pen arms. AA has been let loose, good thing he told Beeston to stay the f*** out if his business this off season.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Don't forget Devon Travis! for me the big thing is that we still have our rotation and young studs in tact.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 i read some comments on another site and i think my brain had a minor aneurysm As a bluejays fan, I'm getting dizzy with all these stupid moves. Trade Lind for junk. Trade Lawrie w 4 prospects for a 3rd baseman who's 4 years older than Lawrie, & now trade one of best pitchers?? I don't get how this is a winning formula, looks like it's back to cellar for Toronto.
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I hope not Why? Via trade I'm a bit scared to see who we have to give but a guy like Shields?
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 WTF is the love for Saunders about? Career . 231 /. 301,no thanks. Aoki is a decent hitter and can get on base, but his defence is below average. Markakis is the way to go if Melky walks, although Markakis and a draft pick sounds pretty nice. If he stays healthy, he probably out WARs both Markakis and Melky... Why? Because he has a little more power? He's had ONE decent year, and it was last year in only 78 games. What happened in the previous five? Oh,because he's Canadian and we should take a flyer over someone who is proven? Odds are if he played a full season this year, his numbers would retreat back to his career norm ( .231 / .301). It's like saying Kevin Pillar will out WAR Melky and Markakis if given the chance. Can it happen? Sure, but its highly unlikely. Just look at the projections buddy. Okay Gruber.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Stroshow is hot for Saunders. Giggiddy.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 This really is incredible, AA has significantly improved the team while shedding payroll. He is going to make a run for one of the big arms, I'm certain of it.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Okay Gruber. WTF you want from me? Should I be upset and start throwing an Internet tantrum? For the money, he's a solid acquisition. AA is obviously combining this trade with a free agent SP signing.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I've thought that myself. The two trades just seemed completely out of left field for him given what he'd been doing the years prior, making cost-effective signings and value-driven trades. As much as I defend AA though, I still think the Gomes for Rogers trade was the worst move of that year, and that was all on AA. He's done those kind of moves in the past (Snider for Lyon, Thames for Delabar, 1 roster for Happ, Napoli for Francisco, more than $1 for Cordero), and that's one thing I've always had against him. He seems to lose all his IQ when it comes to acquiring relievers, which is why what worries me is that relief is the biggest item left on his shopping list this season. What he does with the bullpen will tell us a lot about how far he's come, or whether or not he still values them way higher than he should.
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Some haters need to read the posts...Saunders is not the difference between making the playoffs or not...He is just a piece! However he is a piece that fills a void and he was on sale! This lets AA focus on RP, SP, 2B, and Bench. AA is farrrrr from done. He is locked and loaded.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 what AA has done this off season falls in line with what he preached when he first started. It really stinks of Beeston changing the course in 2012. maybe The team did nothing last year because AA didn't want to be forced into more mistakes?who know.... According to Rosenthal, the Jays were telling teams that they couldn't take on any payroll or move any prospects this past season at the trade deadline, so maybe he was just completely hamstrung.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I'd rather trade for Souza instead of bring back Dirks. It might be overkill, but Calhoun2.0 for Loup would be worth it. Assuming he can play CF, I suppose. I'd absolutely love it, but I really don't see them getting Souza for the kind of hideous pittance offers that people have suggested so far. Like I mean Goins and Lugo? C'mon, lol.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 lol Andrew Simon @AndrewSimonMLB 2m2 minutes ago The Mariners announce they traded for "A.J. Happ," who I assume is J.A.'s evil twin.

I rather Delabar then Thames even if Delabar is done no harm was done. Napoli has a serious medical condition but he performed. RP's are a weird group. Hard to gauge.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Markakis signed with Atlanta Apparently. Yeah, 4/44. Nice AAS, but four years was the breaker. AA would have signed him for 3/36 guaranteed. Markakis grew up in Atlanta, so that was a huge factor.
