John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 But again, it's highly unlikely that the directives are coming from the ownership. They don't tell the GM who to go get, they just approve the expenditures when it comes down to money.
Spoonovic Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Is there any chance that Melky returns now?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I wonder more if this might open the door to Lowrie or Drew at 2nd (AND possibly a pitcher)
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 AA is absolutely killing it this offseason. Time to change your avatar?

It really stinks of Beeston changing the course in 2012. maybe The team did nothing last year because AA didn't want to be forced into more mistakes?who know....
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Is there any chance that Melky returns now? Not imo. There are other positions requiring attention, SP, RP and 2B.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Braves spend 44M+ on Markakis for four years, Jays pick up a better player for a 4M payroll savings. Now bring back Dirks on the cheap, and you no longer have to fear the inevitable Saunders injury, since Dirks/Pillar should be a very respectable fallback while he's out. I'd rather trade for Souza instead of bring back Dirks. It might be overkill, but Calhoun2.0 for Loup would be worth it. Assuming he can play CF, I suppose.
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Great deal. Perfect trade. Even if it doesn't work out with Saunders the deal itself is a no brainer. I have to say I think Happ did a good job in his role and hope him the best!
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 AA is absolutely killing it this offseason. He really is. This trade presents crazy value. I'm starting to like AA again. Seems like he's learned stuff.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Damn I am pumped for next season. Can't believe it's only early December and we've signed Martin, traded for Josh Donaldson (!!!), Michael Saunders, among other moves.. Wow!

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Now go get a starter and a couple of bull pen arms. Unless they see something I don't in Estrada we need a starter. Course that offense may score so many runs it won't matter if Estrada gives Up a home run every start. What an offseason so far. Estrada is behind Sanchez and Norris for starter...still comes down to Spring Training though

Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Didn't AA just say something this week about not trading any of our current starting pitchers? Just proves you can't take much out of these radio interview.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Jon Morosi @jonmorosi 23s23 seconds ago Blue Jays plan to make Michael Saunders their everyday left fielder. This is a good move. I expect him to thrive in Toronto.

Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I'm becoming increasingly suspicious the narrative about AA getting pushed into things in 2012 is true. I think the Dickey move was made because he was still on a tight budget after the Marlins move and Ownership wanted an "Ace". Well at that time a HUGE part of Dickeys value was his potential to be an ace at low cost.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Wow is this the real life or is this fanta sea
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 But again, it's highly unlikely that the directives are coming from the ownership. They don't tell the GM who to go get, they just approve the expenditures when it comes down to money. I agree with you that it's rare, but in scenarios that involve very high-ticket type players, it does sometimes play a factor. Fielder is the absolute epitome of a owner stepping in and pointing out exactly what he wants. Anyone can look back at his signing, and you'll remember clearly that the Tigers came out of the blue, and it was soon discovered that it was because Illitch wanted to make it happen. Just the way it was marketed, and the way Beeston spoke about it (especially his quotes in Davidi's book), it seemed like there was a higher involvement in the move. I'm not saying AA is completely innocent for those moves, because that's the same offseason where he made that atrocious Gomes for Rogers move, but I don't pin it completely on him either. Regardless, all of this stuff is in the past, and he's on absolute fire right now, so what's done is done and we should all revel and enjoy what's going on now.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Russell Martin Josh Donaldson Michael Saunders Absolutely perfect. Crazy offseason and it's only the 3rd of December. Damn I'm f***ing excited for next season.

cusstown Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I'm becoming increasingly suspicious the narrative about AA getting pushed into things in 2012 is true. I've thought that myself. The two trades just seemed completely out of left field for him given what he'd been doing the years prior, making cost-effective signings and value-driven trades.

Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Only thing that worries me now with the Outfield is depth. Saunders is great but has a bit of an injury history. Im stoked for Pompey but he is unproven. Joey B has a little bit of an injury history himself. And Pillar is a huge question mark.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 1m1 minute ago Sources: #BlueJays trading Happ could signify that they will soon be serious players for a big-time starting pitcher.

He's literally turning this into a video game off-season... Boston can throw money around but AA is working the phones and being creative
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Already made this exact trade in franchise mode on the show. Aa is so slow. Good trade. Now to turn force trades on and offer Romero+Navarro for trout
