noone said they were equal... and wtf does AL ROY have to do with his 'tradeability"? did the ray sknow they were getting the rookie of the year?

but ya, to suggest that Souza could be fetched for goins or loup... while myers commanded a king's ransom..while putting up inferior stats in an more hitter-friendly environment....

delusional

The Rays were probably sure hoping they were getting Rookie of the Year when they acquired him...

Again, 21yr old, 6 years control, and ranked everywhere as a top 5 prospect in baseball. That is a premium prospect that teams with payrolls the size of tip jars will move big assets to acquire.

Why don't you tell us what Souza would cost the Jays?

did i ever pretend to know? but i'd say at the very WORST one of our top 10 prospects/ fringe top 5... osuna?

like do people actually think we can get him for goins or loup?

its funny because we all agree that souza is going to be a nice major league player

except some of us seem to think that the nationals front office is stupid...

Yes you do pretend to know, or at the very least assume what it wouldn't take to acquire him.

Truth is no one knows, but this board lets people think their thoughts loudly, express their inner fantasy GM. This is the offseason and that's the fun of it as there is no right or wrong. Instead of being so arrogant towards everyones opinions, why don't you start contributing your actual thought on the matter like you did above instead of arguing with every post.

I'm guessing this is because Steamer doesn't give a s*** about tools, just stats, environments, aging curves, and s*** like that. A 25 year old beating up on AA pitching with a big hole in his swing is still pretty likely to fall on his face against MLB breaking balls.

Poor man's Evan Gatis? The situations are somewhat similar although Souza isn't the power behemoth that Gatis was.

i think this is such a silly argument--despite the fact that the front office hasn't outright said so, i think we KNOW that certain players cannot be obtained for certain players

for instance i think we KNOW that the angels front office wouldn't trade mike trout for josh thole.

now the souza situation is obviously a billion times more ambiguous than that, but isn't it fair to assume that he HAS value? which goins does not? souza has value. not only stats, but has tools too.

to say that i KNOW that the nationals would never trade him for ryan goins... i don't think is even remotely a stretch

why don't you contribute something to this discussion other than arguing with everyone of my posts?

1-Trade for Saunders

2-Play Dirks+Pillar

2-Sign Aoki

3-Sign Markakis

4-Sign Melky

Man, did Melky steal your sister's virginity or something?

melky is a good hitter but our other needs (defense, save money) make him kind of an undesirable target imo.

i honestly think AA is playing up the fact that we are chasing him--as leverage for other negotiations.

Oh, I agree. I'd only sign Melky for 3/30.

Just commenting on our Dominican friend's dislike of his fellow Dominican.

From Jeff Sullivan's FG chat:

Jeff Sullivan: You’re in the ballpark, but the Nationals aren’t really looking to move Souza. He looks to be part of the plan in 2015 and a bigger part of the plan in 2016, so if you move Souza to plug another hole, then you just have a Souza-sized hole elsewhere. They want to turn short-term value into long-term value, not long-term value into different long-term value

I can't post the link from my phone for some reason but it was today's chat. Pretty much cancels out any hope for Souza. Lots of Jays related stuff today. Basically says Michael Saunders is the best fit over Melky/Markakis.

Aoki is a better option than staying in-house.

He'd get on base at a decent clip for our sluggers and has a very dependable profile. Walks, doesn't strike out, slaps the ball all over the field. Decent defense.

Agree. The only downside is the money then can't be used for other needs (which may be why Angrioter has Aoki after Dirks/Pillar)

Unloading Navarro + could land us a rather useful LF or 2B or set-up guy - who needs a switch hitting catcher? Then see what 2B/LF/BP depth those tams have.

Nobody in Ang's family has ever been a virgin. They were simply born without virginity.

What was the question to which that was the response? What I'm asking here is "what is the ballpark?"

WTF is the love for Saunders about? Career . 231 /. 301,no thanks. Aoki is a decent hitter and can get on base, but his defence is below average. Markakis is the way to go if Melky walks, although Markakis and a draft pick sounds pretty nice.

If he stays healthy, he probably out WARs both Markakis and Melky...

Why? Because he has a little more power? He's had ONE decent year, and it was last year in only 78 games. What happened in the previous five? Oh,because he's Canadian and we should take a flyer over someone who is proven? Odds are if he played a full season this year, his numbers would retreat back to his career norm ( .231 / .301). It's like saying Kevin Pillar will out WAR Melky and Markakis if given the chance. Can it happen? Sure, but its highly unlikely.

Ryan Goins will be an above-average 2B right?

I don't think you are in any position to be making judgements on which players are good and which ones are bad. You are dead wrong about Saunders.

If the jays have 20 mil and they trade Navarro, DFA Dirks they should have enough money to sign Aoki at 8 mil. Sign Lowrie and add a bull pen piece.

Sure I like Saunders and others but I really don't want to deal any more prospects at least until the deadline if they need a piece.

Why bring up Goins? I know what he is, just HOPED his bat would improve. Regarding Saunders, he's done squat for five years, but has a decent half season this year and he's now transformed into a better option than Melky and Markakis.

Laughable.

5.3 WAR in the past 3 years, one of which was severely shortened by injury. Plays in a park that really, really hurts batters. Just turned 28...

"gruber92" will be forever associated with Ryan Goins. There isn't a way around it, unless you delete your account and start again.

He hasn't been a below average hitter in three years, something that Melky and Markakis are unable to say.

I don't think I would count 2013 as a below average year for Melky. I have no material statistical data to support this, but I'm pretty sure hitting .279 and posting a .682 OPS playing 88 games with a tumour on your spine is above average for those playing with that condition. There's no one to compare him too, because when you can hardly run and it hurts to sit down on a couch you generally don't play baseball. I don't think people who have not suffered back pain truly understand the pain he endured while playing.
