This wasn't what you were originally responding to though... The question was if he'd WANT to sign here, to which your response was that the risks of injury for him was low since all he had was a "a slipped disk" and that the turf issue is overblown... Now you're following that nonsense up with "I don't see any reason why they shouldn't pursue Headley". SMH

Yeah, I need a second surgery because of compressed disks and there's "NO GUARANTEE", I believe he stays far, far away.

For position players, the largest point of contention comes in measuring defense and estimating the positional adjustment. Our measures of both are more uncertain than our measures of offense, so players who get a good amount of their value through their defensive ratings likely have more uncertainty around their WAR value than players who have defensive value closer to average. This does not mean that WAR is wrong or biased, but rather that it is not yet capable of perfect accuracy and should be used as such.

I know you've been obsessing over Stoeten. And me. And me as Stoeten. And Stoeten as me. But, seriously, that is something you'd write. Almost verbatim. Not even trying to press a button or get a childish jab in. That's fingerprint'esque unique. If that's indicative of his writing, he doesn't read like me at all.

Hilariously, "fingerprint'esque unique" is the same kind of douchebag jargon someone who uses terms like "rubbishes" or "serial ********-monger" would use. You're trying too hard, Stoeten.

Doesnt mean they wont offer....just not in the next 24 hrs

Yes, he'd be an upgrade for the team, and I love that the team seems to have money available, but I'm really less stoked about signing Sandoval than I would be about other players we could get.

I basically have a different preference to almost every name in the news right now. I prefer Headley to Sandoval, Saunders to Melky, Aoki to Hunter, Neshek, Crain and maybe even Badenhop to Miller, and Shields to Lester.

That being said, if they get any of those guys (outside of Hunter, I f***ing hate him), I won't be all that upset. If the team truly does have money, it's something to be stoked about. The cynic in me still thinks that this is just the media taking advantage of the Russell signing to go a little more wild on Jays rumors than we're used to. I won't be much surprised if Russell is the biggest thing the Jays do this off-season by a wide margin. Still, there's reason to be optimistic for once.

Rumors like this are great for the bluejays. I wouldn't be surprised if the FO initiated with the intention of distancing themselves later. If Boston's FO is convinced that Toronto is planning on bidding on the same player then chances are Boston's own bid is increased: Competition and freemarket blah blah blah. Ultimately it is to Toronto's benefit if division rivals overpay... especially on health adverse players. Who else is Toronto supposedly interested in? Oh right, Lester. To further confirm my theory that Toronto is trying to f*** over Boston, I give you one name: Juan Francisco.

And just in case you are wondering, yes I wear a hat constructed of tinfoil with a jays emblem stuck to it.

Hochevar > Crain, Neshek, Badenhop

I agree with you, but I have Hochevar #1 on my list for long relief/swingman. I'm looking at the other three for the late inning role. In the ideal scenario they sign both Hochevar and one of the others.

Hochevar is repped by Boras. Which means he won't be a Blue Jay.

Crain makes the most sense (Canadian, a reliever, Canadian, potential buy low, and he is also from Canada).

I agree with everything except for Shields. Lester would be a much better acquisition

That's the closest two in my opinion. I only lean towards Shields because apparently he's going to be cheaper (by a not insignificant amount), and that money can be used to get some of the other guys. Like I said though; keeping the draft pick and signing the guy that's two years younger in Lester wouldn't be something I'd complain about. I'm just not that high on getting one of these starters in the first place. The contract terms and dollars both seem so much heavier than an actual need for a pitcher.

I'd rather go for McCarthy or possibly even Harang. We don't need some superstar pitcher on a long term deal, the guys that are on a tier or two below and would only be tied up for a few seasons at most make a lot more sense to me.

Hochevar is a Boris client.....he aint coming to TO

If we sign any FA pitcher, it should be Liriano IMO. I think he would be pretty cheap since he has a pick attached to him, but we would be giving up a much later pick so we have the advantage. Won't cost 5 years, misses a lot of bats etc.

Russell? Liriano? So basically we copy Pittsburgh's perfect off-season of two years ago?

This idiotic f***ing Boras narrative is so irritating to hear about every year. They need to grow a set of nuts and let bygones be. There's no room for these ******** grudges and ******** egos in a front office. Not in this sport.

I would be happy with that. But I think we should adress 2B and LF first

I read he is looking for 3-4 years and $12M per. I think 3/36 would be reasonable for him, but I'd rather pay more for a 200 IP workhorse (Shields, Lester). With Liriano you really don't know what you are getting year to year, and he's not an innings eater.

worked for them, maybe it ends our drought :P

I do think Liriano will be a good value sign however.

The question in Liriano would be what lead to his success the last couple years...pitching with Russell Martin as his catcher, or moving from the AL to the NL? He was brutal in the AL.

He could always strike people out. That's a good skill to bank on when looking at a comeback candidate.

Have you seen his last couple years with the Twins? UGLY

He's also not very mentally strong...poor makeup. Although I'm not sure how much of a positive influence Martin had on him in Pittsburgh.

I'm pretty sure the 24 hours is up.... is this good or bad? no idea why anyone would try to put a time line on it all, but since someone did. lol

Not really sure why he would want to leave San Fran..great ball park, great time, great city, he already lives and Im assuming owns some sort of property there.

The relationship between Sandoval and the Giants is not quite right. The Giants called him fat and refused to extend Pablo's contract.

I hope the pads get him. I don't want jays to get him at 20 mil per and I don't want the Red Sox to get him because even though he will be over paid he is still good and will help them....until he's an albatross which the Red Sox payroll can handle in a few years.
