Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 main reason, front office too cheap to pony up the cash proof positive is Jays lack of winning bids for posted players from Japan
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 You wonder? We play in Canada. We play in one of the worst stadiums on turf. We suck. We really suck. We've f***ing sucked for the last 20 years. Did i mention we suck? I'm guessing taxes are an issue. I'm guessing most players do not add ball teams that are located in States that have no income tax. What would a player lose in Toronto, 35%?

What would a player lose in Toronto, 35%? taxes arent really that big of a difference for most states (florida excluded), it has more to do with the perception of Canada some americans have. Eskimos and igloo's. http://www.investopedia.com/financial-edge/0411/do-canadians-really-pay-more-taxes-than-americans.aspx Braves are probably going to rebuild with their young core, and Upton is not included. Jason Heyward and Evan Gattis are also available but will cost pitching prospects as the Braves system is sorely lacking high end pitching talent.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Nope. Nope, we don't have plenty of income tax in Canada? You should take a course, or look at your T4 or something.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 braves have already stated that they are not trying to move Evan gattis....i think they still have 4 years of player control with him

Sure, but that perception could equal no trade clauses to the Jays. Plus, the reality is we have a higher tax rate than probably every US State.

Plus, the reality is we have a higher tax rate than probably every US State. The difference is negligible, and in some states, like New York, the tax rate is higher than in Ontario. Take the income taxes for affluent Ontarians and New Yorkers. With Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty’s 2% surtax for those earning more than $500,000, at the highest income bracket, Ontarians currently pay about 49.5% in provincial and federal taxes combined. New Yorkers, meanwhile, pay about 48% after taking into account a federal and state tax. (Those who live in New York City are subject to an additional city tax which would bring taxes closer to about 51%. http://business.financialpost.com/2013/01/04/will-higher-tax-rates-abroad-have-millionaires-knocking-on-canadas-door/

And, I'm not a tax expert, but US citizens still have to pay the federal income tax for US as well even if their primary residency is in Canada so it's essentially double taxation. It's a big reason why many US citizens abroad are renouncing their citizenship.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Americans playing in Canada are non residents for tax purposes as most spend less than 100 days in Canada ( away games )

They receive a full credit in the us for the income tax they paid in Canada
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 and ownership is unwilling to spend. there is nothing wrong with the $ amount Rogers is spending on the team.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Are you so blind that you can't see the reality. Yes ownership and the mouth of JP Ricarrdi caused players to look dimly at the Jays. But that is just one of the many factors . As o2 states , different country, Americans don't want to play outside the states, Turf, proven to be harder on the body, Rogers Center, why would pitchers want to play there. Money, we aren't willing to pay more for them to come, and marketing, Few can make the extra income outside of baseball all of this can change if the jays make the playoffs. A playoff run has an amazing way of changing perception. Jays signed better FA after the 1985 season. It makes a huge difference in what players think. Interbrew did damage to the team's rep that still hasn't been repaired. They threw away the good reputation that Labatt had built up. Labatt was a big spender that put the jays in a position to attract anyone they wanted. Jays were one of the biggest payrolls in baseball when they went back to back, they also had 4 million fans a year and were a cash machine.
Qwerty Verified Member Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 I am a CPA and I specialize in Tax. In the US you get credit for taxes paid to state jurisdictions as an itemized deduction on your Federal return (schedule A, line 5 of 1040). Same idea if you earn in multiple states. You only get taxed on income once. There's no such thing as double taxation unless you are a shareholder of a corporation.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 The top marginal rate in Alberta is 39%..let's move the team to Calgary so we can get some decent free agents.

How ironic. You are really a drama queen, come on the board only to insult posters. Take a break it isn't for a person of little patience such as yourself. When the wind blows do you get angered by it? When a child smiles does it irk you? When a old lady asks you for help do you reply in disgust?
