shortstop Verified Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Happ or Estrada for Kendrick would save the Halos some $$$
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Man, just stick Chris Young in left for one year and hope his defense makes up for his bat. It would be cheaper and wouldn't cost an asset. If money isn't an object sure but otherwise a swap of salaries might actually be more desirable.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Estrada in that park would be pretty good.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Happ or Estrada for Kendrick would save the Halos some $$$ Also a terrible trade for the Halos. The problem with Saunders is his injury history. AA said that would be a consideration and he did trade Lind already...

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Estrada in that park would be pretty good. Hopefully the M's recognize that.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Hopefully the M's recognize that. Do we really want ANOTHER player that has bad drive or s***** work ethic........we might be better off to stay away from those types......Escobar, Rasmus etc
Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I believe thats why the Ms are shopping saunders.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 And 2 wins. They intend to win their division by three games next year so it won't be a problem.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I'd be up for this. Either flip Happ or Estrada, and avoid having to waste a SP calibre arm in the pen. We have enough depth with Norris, Nolin, Sanchez, etc that we can part with Happ or Estrada. Good idea...I'm no big fan of Saunders but he is an improvement over the current signed players but flipping Estrada for him makes sense for this team. Not so sure about Seattle's point of view.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I believe thats why the Ms are shopping saunders. Is that just an assumption or is there any substance to it?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Speaking of the Halos, would Freese be worth moving Lawrie to 2B? Other than one bad year in 2013, Freese has put up WAR's of 2.5, 3.9, and 2.1 from 2011-14. I could see them doing Happ for Freese. Or maybe throw in a prospect on top of that.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Arizona has Peralta, Pollock, Trumbo and Ross. Give them nothing, and take Inciarte and call it a day. The D is real and I really believe the bat has a little improvement in it. Oh wait this isn't my Rays board. Never mind. Seriously though the Rays should be dangling Joyce in front of the Jays (last year of arbitration probably making $5.5M this year)

They shouldn't waste $3-4 million on Estrada as a long man in the pen, when they already have Todd Redmond who did a solid job this past season.

He's not that good defensively and with his injury history/durability issues, no thanks!
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 We really need to sign him. I'd do 4 yrs, maybe even 5. We will never get a player from FA if we only do 2 or 3 yrs.

If the Jays have the money to sign him then they have the money to sign someone else too whether that's Chase, Asdrubal or whoever.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 If the Jays have the money to sign him then they have the money to sign someone else too whether that's Chase, Asdrubal or whoever. Yep. Use the money saved up for Melky on Headley. Much better investment.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 If the Jays have the money to sign him then they have the money to sign someone else too whether that's Chase, Asdrubal or whoever. Asdrubal Cabrera is not a very good player.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Asdrubal Cabrera is not a very good player. That's not the point. The point is that it's not "'Melky or bust". At this point signing Melky really isn't really any different than signing any free agent.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Except that when we sign another free agent we get a draft pick (unless they're a qualified FA). Yeah so really if anything it's better.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Yeah the Jays have to move either Happ or Estrada. They shouldn't waste $3-4 million on Estrada as a long man in the pen, when they already have Todd Redmond who did a solid job this past season. I agree. I doubt AA will keep both, one should get moved for sure, unless he is planning something bigger.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Not that I care about either side of the Melky debate, but I also wanted to note that I'm not sure if it's been confirmed anywhere whether or not his height/weight really is 5'10 / 215. A lot of places have him at 6'0 / 200, which is far better shape than people are taking into account.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Estrada is not an AL east pitcher so hard as it is for me to admit this I would rather keep Happ if money is no issue. Seems AA has a lot more budget than i thought and if he can get a free agents to sign here then backloaded contracts can stretch that budget more.

Meh, I think Estrada could be valuable as the No. 5 guy, even pitching in the AL East (which isn't that fearful as it once was). He's been good with the Brewers the previous two seasons before 2014. Personally, I'd rather save the $3-4 by having Estrada as the No. 5 guy over Happ, because at the end of the day I don't think there is a huge difference between the two. Plus, the Jays have a lot of depth with Norris, Sanchez, Nolin etc. as depth like Vik said.

Yeah if he's planning on moving MB or building a package which includes some of the young arms, then its understandable. Though if things stay the status quo, with Dickey, MB, Stroman, Hutch in the rotation, and none of Sanchez, Norris, Nolin are moved in trades, then the Jays only need one of Happ or Estrada.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 RickyRo in da house!! Comeback player of the year in 2015?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 RickyRo in da house!! Didn't he have surgery on his knees in the offseason? It'll be interesting to see if it helps.
