TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Looks like the Jays made a trade to get more cap space! Details not yet known. Which isn't necessarily a good thing. If Vladdy Little really signed for 3.9M, I don't think the Jays can do much to get out of the imposed limits. They'll just be trading assets to pinch pennies.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I can kind of see why they'd trade De Jong though, he is a pitch to contact guy who doesn't get GB's.

While currently the restriction is there next year at 300 K limit it will not be there the year after. I think this is just planning ahead to ensure you are not limited to the International market for years while at the same time pinching pennies. I know that in baseball you want quantity of prospects because so many end up busting and coming out of no where, but if the Jays felt that the development of the players traded weren't going to improve and still wanted to get the quality of players from the International market in 2 years, then its a good trade.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I guedd this explains why Chase DeJong was promoted to Dunedin a week and a half ago and proceeded to make zero appearances. yeah this deal must have been in place at least since the 22nd or 23rd. Back to back 10 K outings to end his MidWest season. Should be interesting to see what he can do in the homer friendly Cal League.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 The Blue Jays original bonus pool was at a cap of $2,324,100. If they were to acquire the full 50% of that amount from the Dodgers in the DeJong/Locastro deal ($1,162,050), that would put their new cap at $3,486,150. An additional 15% on the new cap ($522,922) would give them a limit of $4,009,072 in which they could sign Vlad Jr and only be penalized for one year, as opposed to two. If the Jays had been able to sign Vlad for 3.8M instead of 3.9M, they'd have only gone 10% over their max cap limit, and would have been able to spend 500K per player next year, instead of the 300K limit that they'll now have.
