KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I have a feeling AA is going to be making a lot of moves this winter. No way he sits on his hands even if he has payroll constraints. Another poor season and I think he gets replaced. It's counter-intuitive but the value of elite players goes down the bigger the league.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I wouldn't shed any tears if Lind and Reyes were moved especially with we could dump 2/3 of Reyes $$$ and allocate it else where.

bill Verified Member Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Wtf is the point of this trade? Hendricks was clearly crap and we have a ton of starter depth. Do not question the great AA
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Smoak @ 3 instead of Lind @ 7 is really really dumn. Taking a likely 1.5 win hit to shave like $4 million is bad business. If Lind is cleared for salary space, I'll be really f***ing pissed if half of that money goes to Justin Smoak. Lind can't stay healthy and is getting older. A healthy Lind however would obviously be worth the extra $4mil and i don't think AA claims Smoak with thoughts of moving Lind if that were the case. Lind is just not serviceable anymore.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Unless AA is planning to trade some players or perhaps cut cost in certain areas to focus on bigger needs. Hope he gets rid of Reyes. Can't stand that fker and his 22M salary. He's a clown.

I for one am hoping Lind is traded, for better or worse, only b/c I believe the jays need to move on from Lind/Janssen.

Although I really have no idea how much they can shave off his salary by re-notiating. Maybe the idea is to try to convince him to sign a MiLB deal?
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 You realize Lind has accumulated 2.4 WAR in the past 4 seasons (or 0.6 WAR/yr) and 6.6 WAR since 2006, 8 seasons (~0.85 WAR/Yr) He sucks against lefties, sucks in the field, and sucks on the basepaths I'm not gonna lose any sleep if Lindy is gone Firstly he's accumulated a 3.4 fwar over the last 2 seasons (4.2 bwar). His war this season was on par last year while playing 33% less since being a platoon. I would lose sleep if Lind was scratched for a full-time replacement level player. Hell, I don't want to see replacement level players on the roster at all unless a fire sale is upon us. It should be the complete opposite if this team wants to win.

The wins analysis already includes time missed by Lind. An injured Lind who only plays 40 odd games still worth more
wardhenke1 Verified Member Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 It is too early to tell what AA is contemplating for this off-season or what Rogers has decided the budgetary constraints will be. The additions (?) of Smoak and Hendricks seem to point in a certain direction and I have my own suspicions as to what is coming, but I may be (and hope to be) completely wrong about that. Let's give it a few months and then see when we are.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 If Lind stayed healthy all season I doubt he would have been as valuable. His BABIP was like .380 I think. He seemed like a prime candidate to regress badly, but got hurt before he could.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 The "Lind only has x warz in the last 5 years" narrative is pretty disingenuous. He spent 2010-2012 severely miscast as an every day bat. He's Matt Joyce - play him everyday and you'll have a hard time squeezing any value out of him. Play him vs. RHP exclusively and you have a 1-2 win player.
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I'm not really sure what the big stink is about? People complain about the lack of depth then when AA adds some depth pieces they complain about him adding depth. He's got an organization to run which includes the minor league system as well. People are reading waaaay to far into these waiver pickups. I don't see them as anything more than depth moves to add talent to the AAA roster. 1) This isn't a waiver pick up... it's a trade. 2) Hendricks has no options left to move him to AAA for depth unless he passes waivers where he can get claimed in which case we give up Nessy for nothing.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Good side of getting rid of Nessy: He won't block Dan Jansen in his full-season debut.
