No options left? Prepare for fire sale in 3.. 2.. 1.

This is the problem with the Jays. They should either have a fire sale or make big signings, but they'll do neither and be happy with big weekend crowds.

I have absolutely NO EXPECTATIONS for this off season NONE! So this is just a prime example of my expectations.

A bit dramatic.

lol. They pick up a guy to be their 6th-8th starter a day after the World Series. Relax.

Yeah, I hate this trade (mostly because it means we are expecting Hendriks to contribute at the big league level), but it's a fairly insignificant deal as far as the off-season.

Of course, when Nessy becomes a good MLB catcher for the Royals, it will look worse.

Nessy hasn't really lived up to their dreams. It's quite possible the Jays didn't really have a spot for him next year and Hendricks can be a back end reliever. In which case it's something for nothing. After the Yan Gomes fiasco, there's always the fear that the team might be underestimating another catcher's defense but my money's on Chung not Nessy to be the next Gomes.

No , it just a realistic look at what i think will happen this off season . This way when nothing good happens I can't be disappointed unlike the bunch who will be posting sign Lester and Martin and Robertson and Headley and then bitching and crying about AA when they sign elsewhere.

AA had less money than even I thought he would last year and i was the most pessimistic. I expect the same.

This seems a little odd, but I have to think he's the new long man next year. Throws strikes, youngish, cheap, some upside. Could be a lot worse options imo, especially since Redmond will almost certainly be graduating to higher profile situations. Seems like a bit of a waste to give up a player to get someone to fill that role though.

He's an Aussie as well :)

Nessy hit 9 homeruns in 51 games in 2012, this past year he hit 1 in 69 games while repeating A ball. That's a perfect example for why you shouldn't get carried away by numbers in short season leagues.

But Hendricks doesn't even have options. He cant even be AAA filler. What is the point of this. If Hendricks is going to be a roster pitcher in the bluejays this year, there is very little hope

I saw Nessy play in Vancouver a couple years ago and from the seats and he didn't do anything useful. I understand that sometimes it's out of his control but I think he had 3 or 4 passed balls and 1 or 2 throwing errors in the game I saw. I know it's just one game but in this instance I think AAA pitching depth>maybe a depth catcher

First Smoak and now Hendricks. Two fringe MLB players with no options. Doesn't make much sense.

Unless AA is planning to trade some players or perhaps cut cost in certain areas to focus on bigger needs.

I think the smoak claim was a worthwhile gamble especially if your moving Lind to clear costs . He is at least replacement level and could give some upside. Hendricks is just eating up a roster spot . Nessey is nothing special and I,m sure Hendricks will clear waivers to pitch in Buffalo but he is eating a 40 man spot. More garbage on the 40 man

Smoak @ 3 instead of Lind @ 7 is really really dumn. Taking a likely 1.5 win hit to shave like $4 million is bad business. If Lind is cleared for salary space, I'll be really f***ing pissed if half of that money goes to Justin Smoak.

You realize Lind has accumulated 2.4 WAR in the past 4 seasons (or 0.6 WAR/yr) and 6.6 WAR since 2006, 8 seasons (~0.85 WAR/Yr)

He sucks against lefties, sucks in the field, and sucks on the basepaths

I'm not gonna lose any sleep if Lindy is gone

Agreed totally but where does AA cut the budget which I believe he has to. You can't replace Lind,s bat for the dollars. Only Moogy can do that.

I still expect Buehrle to be moved too.

I have a feeling AA is going to be making a lot of moves this winter. No way he sits on his hands even if he has payroll constraints. Another poor season and I think he gets replaced.
