TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) at least for flex packs. My 20 ticket packs which got me 20 tickets for $200 is now $260. I haven't looked at all the rest yet but usually that is across the board. Anyone else go through the process to see some of the others? Edit: Looks like 500 level had much larger percentage increases than the others. It's between 5% and 35% across the board. Edited October 23, 2014 by TheHurl

This is going to be a hard sell if they have another do nothing off season and even worse if they let Melky walk and do nothing.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Gotta love how Rogers doesn't have the balls to hold Beeston/AA accountable but can suddenly grow a pair when they feel like gouging the fans.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I saw this too,10$ a seat going to $13 a seat. I wonder what this means for individual game prices. 260 is still a pretty good deal though because you get 4 home opener tickets and 6 Canada day tickets. You can sell those seats on the open market for at least $40 and $30 respectively giving you free tickets to whatever other games you want. No surprise they raised ticket prices. With inflation all of their costs were being raised so ticket price increases was going to happen. If my memory is right they didn't raise prices the last couple of years?

Where the f*** can you buy a beer for less than $10 at RC?

Yeah I don't know how they came up with that. Anyways, isn't there a disproportionate amount of cheap seats at the Rogers Centre? I think the 2nd cheapest seats are $26 (non-"premium" game), so the average is a pretty bad indication.

I don't know about the beer part, considering it's very much stadium to stadium with different sizes. However, they obviously found something and converted it to US dollars as no other park is a .82 cost. They are .50 or .00.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Yankees ticket prices are crazy. Seats that are $70 in Toronto cost $230 at Yankee Stadium.

Puts a lot of pressure on the team to make significant moves (which I think they will...quality of those moves is what I question)

Puts a lot of pressure on the team to make significant moves (which I think they will...quality of those moves is what I question) Sports teams often get s*** on by the public for "raising ticket prices" but inflation causes prices for everything to go up so why should it be any different for ticket costs? The employees wages go up as well as a lot of other overhead costs so really people shouldn't complain when ticket prices increase. I understand the public's viewpoint of if the team is s*** prices shouldn't go up but they are going to eventually go up no matter what. A ticket is still relatively cheap to other entertainment options. I mean I went to the movies the other day with my girlfriend and its like f***in $40 to see a movie if its 3D. Could see a Jays game for cheaper than that.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 It's the same with prices for escorts - the one's that were charging $250 a year ago are now charging $300 per hour.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 The thing I don't understand with the Jays ticket prices is how they don't have dynamic pricing for single game tickets. The "regular" and "premium" pricing is a terrible strategy. There is no way a Friday game vs the White Sox is worth the same price as the home opener, Canada day game or even any Saturday vs the Yankees or the Red Sox. I wonder if this is the year they finally switch to dynamic pricing offering more pricing levels then just 2. To be honest I don't mind it because I will still buy a 20 ticket flex pack and pick the best games to go and in the event I can't go re-sell them for double what I paid. If the Blue Jays want to make more money they really need a new President who isn't running a pro sports franchise like its still the 90s.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Even movie prices have gone up since they've now added VIP screenings where you can purchase alcohol. Haven't seen a movie in a VIP theatre yet, though its stupid to pay more for the same movie only because you are allowed to purchase an expensive overpriced beer lol. Just bring in your own tall cans - that's the smart way!

Governator Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Terrible for the worst product in the mlb. I guess that's how Rogers is celebrating being the team with the longest tenure without playoffs Relax... it's been like 5 years since they've increased ticket costs and they are well below league average. Pretty sure most employees have had a couple of raises in those times. It's not the cost of tickets stopping fans from going to Jays games.

You say they have been below average? well how long as the product been below average? 21 years. Yes inflation has increased prices of other forms of entertainment, however those forms of entertainment at least deliver whats been promised. It really is irrelevant what other franchises in baseball are charging for ticket prices, Every other MLB team has gone to the playoffs in the last decade In any case Death of baseball in Toronto gets closer and closer. The way the team is shaping up, this could be a 90 loss team next year. Add increase in ticket pricing, and very real possibility that the Jays are going to lose some serious money next year. Which will likely result in lower payroll for future years. There are consequences for not taking actions. The right action was to improve at the 2014 trade deadline when this team was leading by the 3 games. Inaction at that point will ultimately result in AA and Beaston eventually losing their jobs, and the further death of baseball in Toronto

How do you define a below average product anyway? They've been a winning team for the majority of those years. If they increase ticket sales by 15% but lose 1000-2000 fans / game directly from doing so (which is unlikely considering it's the product of the team that sells tickets here period) then they'd still turn a solid profit making it +EV for the business. You want grass installed right? Well there's a cost for that.

Regular season wins are meaningless if team does not make post season. Every other team in Major League baseball has made the post season in the last decade

Every other team in Major League baseball has made the post season in the last decade If success is determined by the playoffs like you said, the Blue Jays are 1 of only 6 teams to have won the World Series more than once in the last 20 years. Now, I don't believe playoff success determines if the team was successful but merely stating what you are determining what success means to you.

So yes if you increase the time Horizon to 25 years then you would be correct. There is an entire generation of torontonians who are now going to University that have never seen a Jays playoff games. I honestly don't think I will see a Jays playoff game in my lifetime.

Just like all corporations. The Blue Jays continue to make money, and the valuation of the Jays continues to rise. The Jays have solid financial footing.
